  1. I always bowfish out of a canoe. with 2 people it is perfectly fine.
  2. Pygmy, very good point. That could get messy quick. My first salmon was a 28 lb king on a dipsy and he took 380 ft of line and the dipsy would absolutely not release so it felt like a 50 lb fish the whole way in. What a fight for a 13 year old lol.
  3. Saw one dead on the road last weekend and my girlfriend and i saw one walking behind its momma today in a field. Cute little things.
  4. You do not need a radio. It is a reccommendation.
  5. I guess i am just a lucky hunter. My first hour ever deer hunting when i was bowhunting at 14 i shot a 7 point. My first day ever hunting with a shotgun when i was sixteen i shot a big doe. My first time ever taking out the rifle i shot a big doe at 17 yrs old. Same applied to turkey hunting. First time ever, longbeard came in strutting, got the whole thing on film and i got him at 20 yards. So far in my 5 years that i have hunted i have successfully taken 13 deer and i have lost one buck. A nice eight point i shot with my bow at 16 years old and the landowner would not allow me to retreive it from the property it crossed onto. (talk about heart break. would've been my biggest buck to date.) My largest buck to date is a big 7 point with half of his left main beam broken off. 16" wide. Biggest doe is 120 lbs field dressed.
  6. Oldkevin, you have to see the prices of quality waterfowl gear to know that the z7 is just chump change lol. I have sooooooo much invested in the sport!
  7. Haha YES! Another waterfowl hunter has been caught in the trap! Welcome aboard! Its so addicting!
  8. Due to the weather forecast i may not go to the big lake this weekend. 18 mph winds on ontario wouldnt be a good match with my 12' boat. Might just go to a small lake and do some bass fishing. Still gonna make it up there at some point though!
  9. Took my girlfreind out yesterday and got in early and hit the owl call one time and a tom triple gobbled. We moved closer to where we heard him and every time i would hit the owl call he was in the same place. Set up the blind and the crows had him hammering off every 1-2 minutes. Waited a little bit and did a short yelp and he cut me off with 3 consecutive gobbles. I waited about ten minutes and called and he did the same exact thing. he was definately on the ground for sure closing the distance inch by inch and i could tell my girlfriends heart was pumpin every time he gobbled the barrel of her gun would start to shake. He was to the edge of the field we were in and we finally saw him come into full strut with a huge paintbrush hanging. She really got excited then and i made another call and he broke strut and came to around 100 yards and strutted and i heard what was quite clearly an obviously an old box call to our right and i looked over on the hill and i see a guy with a double barrel in all old army camo walking to the field like there was nothing in it. By now this tom lost his strut and started doing the loud "cluck" and trotted the opposite way and my heart sunk and i saw the disappointment on my girlfreinds face and this guy walked into the field 40 yards away from us and made another call and i stepped out of the blind and this guy ran across the hill he came from faster than the turkey ran out of the field. He obviously knew he was trespassing and knew he was about to get an a$$ chewing. I was beyond mad and we stuck around and hunted for another hour or so and finally called it a morning. I was so upset because it was the last morning my girlfriend and i could hunt for the season. Undecided if i will be going out on friday or not but i know for one thing that if i hear that box call i'll be on a mission to have a chat with someone. Nothing like introducing someone to turkey hunting and have someone like that ruin their first good opportunity.
  10. I'm ten minutes from Seneca lake so i intend to test it. have a trolling motor for it too but i'd rather keep the big motor running. Not sure how far i dare go out. i've been to the 34 line which is over an hour full speed in a big grady white. i'm thinkin stay within view of shore for sure.
  11. Thank you and i will for sure! i've heard of them catching from browns to salmon in 75-200 feet of water so it cant hurt to try. "Bad day fishin's better than a good day of workin!"
  12. Well, thinkin i'll be headin up for my maiden voyage to Lake Ontario with my new boat memorial day weekend. Heres the catch. I'm 18, my new boat is my first boat i've ever owned. It is a 12' Misty Harbor and it came with a 1967 10 HP Johnson Sea Horse and an electric trolling motor. I bought a manual downrigger to mount off the back of it. I have all the rods etc that i need. Motor hasnt been ran in 9 years and the last time it was ran it was when it was tuned by my grandfather (who is a boat genius). Think i'm gonna try to catch some salmon and browns. Settin up the boat this sunday for the trip. Any tips or advice for salmon fishin out of a small boat??? Plan on running 2 dipsy rods and one downrigger. Just my best friend and i. thinkin of takin a couple seth green rigs and maybe trying in towards shore a little closer too. will be up there Sunday and Monday next wknd.
  13. Thats awesome! I bet he's hooked now!!! Congrats to you and your friend on a soggy gobbler!
  14. Saw a big tom strutting in a field i've seen him there 4/5 of the last 5 days on my way to BOCES today. One hen in front of him.
  15. Well, I have no stories to tell yet until thursday but what do you guys have to share so far?
