?!?!?...Just got the NYODN and the front page say the youth hunt doesn't look good...do to a bill that says no guns are to be allowed during archery seasons...making the youth hunt null and void...illegal actually
This is really an embarrassment when the DEC would allow miss information out to the public in such a manner as to thoroughly confuse the population...is there no one in charge of public relations/media?

"8. The only junior hunter days for big game hunting the department of environmental conservation may authorize during archery seasons are junior archery days."
The bill has yet to actually pass and be put into law.

"When state law makers approved legislation limiting crossbow use to the regular firearms and late muzzle loader deer seasons, the bill carried with it a clause prohibiting firearms use during the regular archery season.

I think the clause intent is for firearms use for deer hunting...not small game.
I would tend to agree but there are always some screwy technicalities that would change the meaning .

The DEC wants the youth season, but their power could be trumped. The bill/law that kills it is pending...so they can't comment on it, other than to say they will comply, which they have done.
They simply cannot tell the public anything because they don't know the final result. Blabbing about it is a political game killer for them...biting the hand that feeds is a no-no.

With the DEC sending out E-mails on season dates and not even mentioning a youth hunt
