Does anyone use mock scrapes to draw deer to their stand??
I did it years ago on several occasions and it works. Deer seem to visit them very quickly. I would see tracks and new pawing when returning but I cant say I ever had any daytime visits while I was in the stand.
Believe it or not , I seemed to get more activity in these fake scapes by drinking lots of coffee and watering my horse in the scrape. I havent done this in awhile nor did I have a camera then . I have a camera setup close to the house now which I am getting alot of doe / fawn activity ( no bucks)
So today was the day to continue this experiment, changed the camera card , made the scrape in front of the camera and let it fly. Recycled gatoraid and Pepsi have scented my scrape. (dont drink coffee anymore)
I will post the results , good or bad

So what is the experiment?
See if they still respond to mock scrapes - or - if they prefer coffee to gatorade? :-\

Oh yeah. I've done it many times. Sometimes I'll even take a squirt in front of my cams to get the deer to stop and pose. It works AND it's cheap!

I have in the past and some imes it has worked out very well. It is a must you do all the work with rubber gloves on so you do not leave your scent. I also have a hand rake to make the scrap, then I put several drops of doe in heat scent on the scrap. I also put a few drops of buck scent on the scrap as well as on the licking branch. I also hang on a branch a dripper that will leave scent each day when it warms up....

I fooled around with mock scrapes many years ago and had no success. After looking at tons of photos an video clips from my trail cams at scrapes, I noticed deer pay much more attention to the overhanging branch than the pawed up dirt. And it enhances scrapes sometimes to pee in them.
So I experimented with the overhanging branch by cutting some overhanging branches off hot scrapes that were unhuntable (like near barns, ATV race courses, etc.) and then zip-tying them to a scrape with cameras. Wow. The activity at the scrapes jumped dramatically.
So I tried it during the last week of the archery season in NY last year and arrowed a buck coming into the scrape.
I augmented the setup with frozen buck tarsal glands too.
The buck came in sideways with his ears back ready to fight when I double-lunged him.
I put together a little video on how I did it. Here's the link.

Okay I'm dumb, again! Link does not take me to any video.
Never tried fake scrapes.
So today I make two near a couple of my stands.
Zip tied fresh cut branches ~4' off the ground, kicked leaves & dirt out and initiated it.
Curious to see if it gets visited.

I started watering my mock scrapes secondhand last year too, it works like a charm. I also like to take a stick and make a big artificial hoofprint right in the center of it.
I'd also dump my yellow gatorade bottle on the scrap on my way out of the stand as I left each day. Not hard to keep 2 scrapes very well watered!

I think its more a curiosity thing. I have try the same thing but coffee or what ever I was drinking that day LOL. But use a drag off of it and put the real doe juice on it thinking that the luck would kick them away. Believe it or not I had one walk the drag line and walk under the stand.

Well my mock scrape drew the attention of a doe and a fawn. Trouble is, they havent been back since this pic was taken.
The date on my camera is one day off. I made the scrape 9/5 at 3:00 and they came a little after noon on 9/6. Guess I will try more Gatorade next time .
