Homemade deer decoy?

Recommended Posts

I still have 2 I made when I was a kid, they actually worked well

I used 1/8" luan, cut in the middle of body and at base of neck, they fold and carry easy

and you can set them up with a bend in the middle, gives a 3D affect

make a half moon cut in head and slide antlers in, put a little hot glue in the skull cap to keep them from moving around

if you were close I would give you one of mine

when I get home, I'll dig them out and post pics

had my wife free hand them, she is a pretty good artist,

when I was a kid, I had to be creative, I also had some awesome plywood crow decoys, killed hundreds of crows over them

not the best pics but this will give you an idea

this one was screwed to the wall of my fur shed, this decoy is 20 years old

this is where I found best location for hinges

and they fold up nice for transport

the half moon cut on the head is for antlers, fill the skull cap with hot glue, to keep from moveing

these have 2" of 1/2" conduit screwed to the legs, cut two 2' pieces of rerod, for stakes, use a real tail for extra appeal....

I just took an old rotting 3D deer from my local club they were gonna throw it out any ways.  works perfect. you can also use a hen of tom turkey decoy for the deer. I had a small herd come up and smell my turkey decoy last year when I was waiting for the tom to show its head. I was within 20 - 30 feet of the deer in a blind. they never even looked at mepost-1590-0-59997400-1370406441_thumb.jppost-1590-0-51918900-1370406468_thumb.jp I tired to upload  the video I took of them with the turkey decoy but the file was too big apparently
