Bummer . Left home at 5 am and was in my stand by 6:15 . Saw 3 doe at a bit over 100 yards making their way through a soybean field . Took a break at 11 am and got something to eat / drink and went to town to use a John . I was in my Pod Blind by 1 pm and stayed until 6 pm without seeing anything . Had about a 1/2 walk back to my vehicle and nothing in sight . Pulled cards from 3 trail cams to check out .

Went to a friend's property in Walworth this am . Sat from 6:30 until 10 am and saw nothing . Checked my cams while I was there . Most sightings have been at dark hours so it's not such a great spot but it was only a 10 mile drive and I can't shoot anything from here .

Checked the forecast and rain was expected this am . I will be heading out to Geneseo in a little bit . Rain is also forecasted for this afternoon but I expect to be in my blind by then . From previous experience I know deer will move in the rain and I have gotten a couple that way .

I was in my Pod Blind by 1:30 . Watched and watched and nothing . It started raining about 5 pm and quit around 5:30 . Shortly afterwards I spotted a couple doe through the trees at the north end of the soy bean field . Then they disappeared . A few minutes later I spotted a large white clump in the field and was trying to look through the thick stuff and then saw the head move . Holy Crap ..... what a great looking rack and a large body . He was out there for about 15 minutes , disappeared and was back for another 10 minutes . I thought , if I was only using my stand in the thick stuff I might have gotten a shot but would have gotten soaked . Then again , if I had been at that stand , the buck and does probably would have been by the pond . Well , there's always another day !

Heading for Geneseo again . Rain forecasted several times today but ya gotta do what ya gotta do . It is expected to be windy with 10- 14 mph winds a good part of the day from the SW and then West . My Pod Blind is on the West side of the property but not movable so it's not a good spot due to wind direction . Hopefully a dumb deer might come in ...........

Big mistake going out today . It was calm early this am but the wind picked up later on . A small amount of rain that didn't matter . Saw absolutely nothing . Finally said to heck with it . Should have stayed home today .

To top it off , I shot a practice arrow and couldn't find it . I'll look for it again another day .

When I woke up at 3:45 this am I had the sweats , A piercing headache and and upset stomach . Took a while for things to settle down but I still had the sweats until about 8:30 am . I was in the stand by 6:30 .

Shoved off for the Pittsford - Mendon area at 5 am . Was in the stand by 6 am after cutting a few weeds and some low hanging branches . Just before 8 am I saw some deer way across the field . There were 4 anterless and a few minutes later I saw a deer with a small rack . The buck went into the gulley but the does with fawns eased along the edge of the field heading my way . I was in a box blind that I had gotten a few deer out of over the years . As they got closer I stood up and held my bow out over the rail ( learned from a previous mistake to do this ) . Drew back , leaned and let go . Got one of the doe at about 20 yards . I thought they were going to turn into the thick stuff a couple times and didn't want to take a chance on no shot .

At least there is one tag that I won't be eating this year !

I havn't been out bow hunting since last Saturday . We were going to South Bristol tomorrow but decided to hunt closer to my son's home since so much rain is in the forecast . I am going to hunt Pittsford near the Mendon border and my oldest son will be hunting a few miles away on Rt 251 in Mendon . I'll be hunting from the spot where I shot the doe last week . I hope the deer will cooperate again . Rain , rain , go away !

This morning was a waste . I drove to Mendon as it showed no rain until 10 am . It was a light sprinkle most of the way . I was in my stand by 6:30 and the sprinkles just kept up . Never saw a blessed thing and left at 9 am as I was pretty wet . I am guessing that the deer were a lot smarter than I am and stayed where they wouldn't get soaked . I sat in the stand that I shot the doe from last Saturday .

When I got there I paced off 20 yards a put a distance marker with a scent wick at what I figured was 20 yards . It ranged at 19 yards . Close !

Nuttin ! Drove to my spot in Pittsford - Mendon and was in the stand by 6:30 . I had put out a couple plain doe pee scent wicks . Sat there until 10:30 and saw NOTHING . The wind was okay except it was cold and blowing on my neck . I don't like hoods and had removed it some time ago . I ended up changing hats and put a hand warmer pad on my neck so it wouldn't stiffen up .

I saw the lady from across the street and asked if I had waked her up when I parked and she said she didn't even know I was there . She asked if I had gotten a deer yet . I told her that I had gotten a doe a week ago across for her home . She said good that it was one less deer eating her plants . I will probably go to Geneseo Wednesday . and give that another try . There will be a fox hunt and maybe the riders / dogs will kick something out .

I was in my Pod Blind by 6:40 this am . No rain but the weather was damp . I saw a small buck and 2 doe by 8:20 . They were about 100 yards away but at least it was a sighting . I knew they the Genesee Valley Hunt Club was going to be hunting the Bottoms . I heard the dogs barking around 8:30 and the horn being blown . Apparently a cock pheasant heard them and flew about 30 yards across in front of me . Kind of a rare sight .

About 20+ riders went across the property 20 yards north of me with a few dogs . I grabbed my camera and got a couple pics of them . None of them even looked toward the blind . I gave up by 11am .

I took my metal detector with me as I had shot a practice arrow several days ago and couldn't find it . Well , I found it today . The ground was real soft and the tip was at least 3" under the soft , muddy dirt .

Drove to Henrietta and checked out the new Field and Stream store . All I can say is WOW !

My oldest son and I plan to meet at a friend's property in South Bristol tomorrow am . We havn't hunted this area in several years but put up some stands over a month ago . I always liked this spot because even if I didn't get a shot , I always enjoyed seeing deer there . I have taken a few out of this area . A couple of gun hunters kinda screwed it up for everyone else when they tresspassed and messed it up for everyone else . We have only bow hunted there but were shut out for a few years . It's about a 50 mile drive for me .

Another exciting day came to an end . I headed for South Bristol around 5 am . Saw a couple doe by the roadside on Co road 28 and thought today is going to be a great day . Got there just a couple minutes before my oldest son arrived . We got our gear ready and headed down the hill on the south side of the gulley in pitch black ( we used our headlamps ) .

I put out a couple of plain doe pee scent wicks , put on my HSS harness and climbed into the ladder stand . A lot of squirrels running around . Around 9 am I saw some movement way down in the small gulley behind me . It was turkeys ..... at least 11 of them . Stayed in the stand until 11 am . My son walked down by the bottom stand and then came up along the edge of the grassy field thinking he might push something to me . Not ! Oh yeah , heard a few shotgun blasts down by the lake ... duck hunters . Also heard at least 1/2 dozen rifle shots . What the heck .

We met at our vehicles to grab some lunch . I had brought a foot long sub to share . Heard another dozen rifle shots while we were at our vehicles .

Took a power nap and was back in the stand by 2 pm . I stayed there until 6:11 . This used to be our Honey Hole . Not sure what has changed to affect the area .

Gonna head out for a friend's property in Walworth in a few minutes . I have a 5 quart crock pot full of chili simmering so I can't wait to get back home and have a couple bowls of Venison Chili . We havn't been seeing much on the cams in a while daytime but some show up during the dark hours . Anyway , i'll check it out . Can't shoot anything from here .
