And there in lies the problem, Your definition od a sportsman.

Yup thats what draws the line in the sand.  Im afraid in the end there will be no true winners but many will be on the better side of the line. You im afraid will be on the wrong side of that line and rightfully so. The rest of the sportsmen will still have choices.  Enjoy!

I plan on it. I am comfortable with the side of the line I have chosen. Seems as though the majority of hunters are also on that this side of the line.

I guess we will see soon enough.  You say majority?  I really hope the few that you know or talk to are not the majority you speak of.   Many hunter/sportsmen will not show their card untill November but i would say when it comes ar's and high capacity clips.. Many hunter/sportsmen see no need for them. But it wont be the hunter/sportsmen that has the final say im afraid

As a weapon enthusiast some of these posts really get to me and for that I normally stay out of the argument. But the 2nd amendment is not here to protect hunting rights but to allow the citizens of this great country to (try) and protect themselves from threats foreign and domestic. Ars are a great weapon along with AKs and SKS and ruger 10/22 with stock mods high point cabinets and many many other firearms. It's not just about ARs there is a lot of history being lost from this ban and what goes along with it. A M1A if I am correct is the longest duty weapon to this day and if anyone has done any stock conversions on this it falls into a assault rifle category. This law is a menace to law abiding citizens like I believe we all are and should be repealed. If a country was ever inclined to invade the USA trust me you would benefit if you and all your law abiding neighbors and friends had assault weapons. Sorry for rant but this hits home and really bugs.me.

Look at Fort Hood - no weapons allowed on military base, except to MP's & security staff.  Still had a shooting via a personally owned handgun (not an AR [armalite rifle] or an actual assault weapon).

Just shows how the law banning something really works for those intending to break them.

Even if the worst happens and they manage to ban all guns in civilian hands, the career criminals and gangs will still be armed and running rampant everywhere.

Then need more funds to train and hire more police, purchase more police cars, build/expand hospitals, hire doctors, nurses, and ER staff.  As a result taxes go up even more.

Tell those who live off the land and have to deal with grizzly bears roaming around their home and taking out their cattle, sheep, and goats to turn in all their guns.

Tell anyone who lives on our country's borders and have groups of illegals crossing their property to turn in their guns when help is not measured in minutes but hours away.

Disarm the gem dealers, so they can be robbed constantly with no defense.

The Second Amendment is there for all of us.

If the 2nd goes, before you know it we will not have any rights left and now way to get them back.

Anyone have any idea where the assumption came from that the 2nd amendment is all about hunting, or even has anything at all to do with hunting? How did that notion even get started? The fact is that there is no constitutional guarantees that have anything to do with hunting ..... but there are for gun ownership. So hunting really doesn't even have a place in this discussion.

The point is that it is useful to the antis (and certain misguided individuals supposedly among our own ranks) to categorize firearms usage and create rifts among gun owners in a sort of "divide and conquer" maneuver. It appears that with some individuals, it is working well.

You really think this is the first time this has happen in the world. The split in sportsmen, gun owners or whatever you want to call them has happened long before now.  Today's world is dog eat dog i guess and you better get what you can, while you can. Not just in sportsmen. In the world!  But like someone else said,, You still have your Bow. and even your XBow now.

That hill may get a little harder to walk in the future. Huh?

Legislation is being put together to be introduced in the next month or so to classify all semi autos as "assault weapons" regardless of magazine capacity or after market changes.  This is to include rifles shotguns and handguns.  By the definition of the law, that would mean all will have to be registered as well and no longer be able to be purchased or sold in NY state.  This is being done to stop the legal AR's.  This would mean the ol 742 and 1100 will be classified.  And when you pass away, the state takes them.  The anti's in Albany are not going to back down from having it their way.  As we all remain divided on what the second amendment is about and we do not stand united, they see no threat to take away OUR not us we and them rights.  This has not been made public, just like the safe act was not.  This information was passed on to me by a friend of mine who is an assemblyman.  Still think they don't want all your guns?  Just keep sitting back and thinking that and soon it will happen.  The bottom line is this law is unconstitutional on both the federal and state levels.  Splitting hairs on which guns they will not allow is simple bull crap.  Either you support the 2nd amendment or you do not.  Yes it is that simple.

Please do not attribute thoughts to me that I have never said. You know and you knew before you started composing your reply that I never said, hinted or implied that this is the first time gun owners have been split. I know your inappropriate paraphrasing of my comments is only a misleading attempt to escape what I said, and has absolutely no bearing on anything that I said. So if you are going to run away from my comments, I only ask that you stop misrepresenting what I have said. It's a very transparent and dishonest way to debate.

I guess I will never understand how any gun owner can condone justify or think this law or others like it is ok.  I would bet if they came out next week and said all trucks will be banned due to the bad gas mileage and they are scary, gun owners would be more upset than at this.

I think we need to send the idiots in the state assembly to Texas or Vegas to see how real assault weapons work on full auto and then how a semi-auto works. (on their dime of course, not our tax dollars).

Then send them to a three-clay shoot that is automated and hand them a single-shot gun and say they have to get all three clays.

Then show them the size of a quail and say that is for a dinner for four.  How many could you get in 5-10 seconds that they are in range.

They have no idea what they are doing when writing or voting on these laws.

If the guns were the real problem, there would be hundreds to thousands of shootings/murders everyday across the whole state.  It is the select few who are the problem.

More are killed by cars/trucks everyday then by a gun.

You can be killed with a No.2 pencil.  Should those be banned?

1 question does your firearm kill what you aim at? O... It does so what's the difference between your firearm and every other firearm in the world ? Not a dam thing and if you try to make the argument of "a single shot does less damage than a semi auto in a period of time" I feel sorry for you 1 loss of life is just as horrible as multiple it's not the guns action look features or caliber is the people behind them
