Susky Muskies

Fished for 18 hrs this weekend and never even saw a musky or pike. Just a handfull of greedy smallmouth. Water temp in the suck has really dropped over the last few weeks due to the cooler weather which i beleive has turned the fish off. Fishing should hopefully heat up again as the Fall gets closer. Unfortunatelly or fortunately i guess depends on how you look at it, I have three 4 yr old bucks in need of an arrow so the best musky time in the fall i will prolly be in a tree unless i connect early.

I was on the susky for about 12 hours this weekend and had the same luck. No boils from muskies. I did get a few smallies though.

Getting as much OT at work as possible so my fishing will be limited to Sundays and the occasional after dark trip.

Speaking of work, my smoke break is over.

Today while driving between jobs I saw a guy riding a bike along the riverwalk near clinton st. with a pike on a stringer. The thing couldn't have been any more than 20". I was pissed and if I didn't have to rush to the job I'd have reported him

Size limit for pike is 18in. Good luck to him trying to eat the boney slimmy thing and out of the river to boot. yuck. lol. I was standing on that log behind you for a bit so I could get a better view with my glasses to see anyfollow ups a few weeks earlier. lol

Oh good then I'm glad I actually didn't let a poacher get away with it. That is if it was a pike and not a small muskellunge.

That is a good little morning spot for smallies. I threw on a buzzbait and got a few. I wouldn't mind wading around that island! Have you gotten any pike/muskies that far upstream?

Well after a dry spell I finally connected this weekend with a couple of nice fish. Landed a nice 36in Northern on Saturday night. Sunday I went with a friend in a boat and landed a nice 40in Musky at around  7am. Also had my first follow up  while doing a figure 8 next to the boat. Fish was close to a 50incher. Its quite a shock to the old nervous system when out of no where you have 4 ft fish chasing your lure around in circles right at the boat. Sent me into immediate buck fever. Was an awesome time.

Sweet catches!

They are on the whole river from top to bottom. PA did a good job stocking them in there waters and they have spread everywhere. Problem is  a private study I have read on line. This guy tagged his own fish on a river in ohio and some of the tagged fish were re caught 20 miles from where he caught them. So they have a fairlly large range following the bait fish up and down the river. So the only thing I can say is do what I do. Cast once and move down 20 ft cast again. Fish a hole from top to bottom them move to another area. If a musky is in there and its hungry it will bite. Ive caught them in knee deep water and 40 ft holes. They dont call them the fish of 10,000 cast for nothing. I fished for them for 3 months before landing the first one.

Went out last night for about 11/2 hrs before dark. was around 7:45 and I had to head home to get ready to go to work and decided on one more cast after landing a 18in pig smally and wammo got a 381/2 in musky on the last cast of the day. Got him in the shallow water and measured him. was in the process of taking the hook out and getting a pic of him and he flipped out  and swam off befor i could get a pic. Very pretty fish was a little upset i couldnt get a pic but oh well. need to get one of those large rubber nets or make a craddle for them. problem is i usually walk up to three miles on the river at a time so would make it hard to carry either. But number 3 for the yr is in the books. still working on trying to get one over 45 in for the yr.which is my goal. Would love to get a 50incher but i think they are far and few inbetween for a river musky. Have only seen them dead that big on the river. You figure a 40 in fish is roughly 10 yrs old so a 50 in fish would have to be close to 20ish. which is a long time to live succesfully on the suck.

Real close to Tioga, just east of the border actually. Walked down Tracy Creek to get there, right at the end of the tri cities runway. Kids threw rocks and caught toads and crayfish. Was a fun coupe of hours. Now they can go to bed early cuz it's back to school. Hope you feel better.

Nice little spot. I've been there a time or 2. We won the catty derby a few years back with a 13.9lb cat caught just down around the corner behind my grandmas house. Just got back from taking the nieces & nephews to the J.C. field days. They don't start back to school til Thurs.
