Animal loving anti hunter ! I ive been going for two impinged shoulders, after a few visits you get to know each other pretty well which helped. Today I told her that the day before I shot my bow to see how it went, ( three arrows only all in the center dot of the block at 20-25 yards) I could tell by her look all I needed to know. She could not hold back ,first saying "why do I choose to hunt them in such a cruel and painful way,as bow hunting causes great suffering.

That was great to hear as I knew she did not know much just the bs from the PETA types, this allowed me to educate her while respecting her opinions.

I got to explain that bow hunting was more of a challenge and that slob hunters don't want to do all that hard work bow requires, Bow hunted deer are " natural ,in there patterns and behaviors, the challenge is figuring it out. That a large percentage of deer I have bow killed never even knew they were shoot with an arrow, just snapped their head up looked around and went back to feeding, that most fall over in sight of my stand.

She thought we lost most hit by arrows or that guys just shot them and never looked for them or just cut off the antlers. I got to address all those concerns.

I told her I have killed deer by bow shotgun, rifle ,handgun, muzzle loader and car. That bow was a clean fast kill if both lungs were taken out,the car was the worst, and gun is clean and fast but some will tend to take risky shots in gun ,and we need to change that.

What I,learned, she really liked that I said a little prayer after taking a deer, giving thanks for allowing me to,take an animal in a clean fast way. That she was very concerned with deers being hit by cars, and after one talk almost admitted hunting may be a better choice ,that the misconceptions of leaving deer to rot ,bad shots, pin cushiony deer, slob hunters is our biggest obstical to over come because her thoughts were not close to reality ,but by letting her talk then calmly explaining the facts and truth,it went rather well.

Now we'll see if she fixes my shoulder in time for now season! My draw arm is mostly ok it's the left arm that hurts just holding the bow at full draw.

You lost me after you said non bow hunters are "slob hunters"

Sorry about that did not mean it to come out like that. Her point was all about bow hunting and how she thought bow hunters were all wounding animals,I was trying (poorly) to say that most took great efforts to be good shots and only take good shots.

That bow took a little more work and effort to do well, and the stereotypical hunter she had in her mind would be less inclined to be a bow hunter.

My post was long and rambling did not mean to offend.

Glad it went well for you.  My PT is a fellow bow hunter and after that 3rd or 4th visit he is very much on our side in pretty much all views in NYS.  I have a pinched nerve causing sciatica and after a few weeks of therapy, I'm doing better but still am not 100% yet, still getting "fits and starts".  He tells me I should be good for opening day, but time will tell.  Good luck on getting better, and thank you for helping to sway her opinion.

Larry,

I would humbly suggest that distancing bow hunters as being morally superior to gun hunters may not be the way to go when confronted with an anti hunter.  We all want to educate but I would say throwing your brother gun hunters under the bus is not the best approach.  Most of us hunt with bow and firearms.

The non hunting public will get the impression that there  large number of slob hunters exist out there taking risky shots etc.  The anti crowd works on principle that incremental victories will lead to winning the war.  Therein lies the danger.

If they limit the freedom of gun hunters eventually freedom to hunt with a  bow will be curtailed and vice versa.  Just a thought for your consideration.  No offense intended. You seem like a thoughtful guy.

Oh so gun hunters are slobs and are too lazy to put in the work? Many bow hunters take risky shots just because they see a big rack. I did say many not meaning all. Plenty of gun hunters put time and work into there hunts. I do not like bow hunters but talking to a non hunter like bow is superior to gun wasn't the best thing to do for our sport. I have voiced my opinion of bow hunters but have done so to other hunters not antis or non hunters. Gun hunters do tend to take a little more risky shot then gun hunters I will agree I have shot a few deer at 250 or 300 yards and got them yet most of my shots are 20 to 50 yards and that is how I like it.

I am sure you didn't mean to make bow hunters sound better then gun huntere but as she is anti or non hunter I bet that is how she took it

So we now know you dont like hunters that target only mature bucks and now we know you dont like Bow Hunters! Care to tell the reason for the hate of the fellow sportsmen?

I think Larry's wife needs to be alerted.  Things with this therapist seem to be moving along a little too nicely.  Don't forget her hands are all over him while he is telling her all this.  Next thing you know she will be inside a blind with him, and God knows what might happen after that.   LOL

I don't understand how a bowhunter is so different than a gun hunter that you wouldnt like them??  I do both. Im assuming you've never tried it or don't like the challenge?

Well we all know too well what happens when you take a "friend" of the opposite sex in the blind with you……..

Not like I ever had a friend of the opposite sex in a hunting blind with me to know for sure what happens, but I do have some ideas of what I HOPE might happen.

Four Seasons you kind of answered yours and Yfkl1983 question. It is actually something for another thread but I will tell you then leave it for another day. I dislike secoration hunters and almost all bow hunters are such. Bow hunters think they are better then every other hunter. Even ones who use both bow and gun. Bow hunters call all other hunters fat lazy slobs unwilling to do the work iit takes to get a deer. The fact that the op is a bow hunters and said that when explaining hunting to the therapist. He said it came out wrong but if that is not how he felt he wouldn't have said it that way. Also

Who fought against the youth hunt? Bow hunters

Who crys we want ar more then anyone else? Bow hunters

Who fought against crossbows? Bow hunters

Who says they are elite and the best and that they put more time and effort into hunting then anyone else? Bow hunters

Who says other hunters are fat lazy slobs? bow hunters

Who has the longest season yet complains about kids getting a chance to hunt 2 days during that time? bow hunters

Who are complaining about cross bows being used the last 2 weeks of bow season? bow hunters. Don't hear gun hunters complaining that bow and crossbow can be used during all of gun season.

Who says gun hunters are the reason they can't get huge bucks because they shoot anything that moves and kill all yearling bucks? Bow hunters

Who calls gun hunters the brown and down or orange army? Bow hunters

Who keeps pushing for longer bow season and shorter gun season? bow hunter

These are a few reasons.

YFK1983 I bow2 hunted for a lot of years and was successful at it i got bucks and does nice bucks some of the ones I have posted in other threads were bow kills. As for the challenge? I never thought there was one. During bow season does are harder to hunt then bucks. A doe has one thing on her mind that is survival a buck has one thing on his that is to breed and he gets very stupid when the rut comes around. That makes easier to hunt. I stoped bow hunting when more and more people figured that bow season was the best time to get a big buck and that is all they wanted. All of the sudden bow hunters were special and had special skills that gun hunters didnt have. I believe bow hunters are the ones who started the trophy hunter attitude.

This is all just my opinion and like I said it is realy a topic for another thread but I hope I answered your questions

I wont pick apart your post because it really is for another thread because that post could be picked apart. Just more lines drawn in the sand between sportsmen. One could say an archer is a hunter and a riflemen a killer. More lines!

Good you swayed her opinion and corrected her wrongful understandings. I'm with the others in that hunters shouldn't be segregated. Most of us don't have a generalization backed by enough hard facts. Only what we've seen or KNOW of other hunters doing which is a drop in the bucket compared to the general hunting population. I'll lean it at that because I wasn't there and to job to conclusions of what exactly what was said would be wrong.

Yes, some of this nonsense sounds so much like the words of the PETA-gang. "Bowhunters do this, gun hunters do that". My gosh don't we get enough ignorant criticisms from the animal rights crowd without helping them out with our own ignorant comments? We sure are a self-destructive bunch aren't we?
