Looking to join up with a hunter

On the advice of others here, I'm looking for someone that I can hunt with. Ideally a deer or bear hunt. I'm 37 from Nassau County but I'm willing to travel. I've already completed my hunters safety course and I have my watershed permit. I've hunted before but guided ranch hunts in other states. I have a couple rifles (rossi 44 magnum and a marlin 45-70... I love lever actions) that I'm pretty proficient with, with my longest kill shot being about 100 yards. I'm a fast learner, good company and up to soak up any knowledge that you are willing to share. As hunters we need our numbers to increase and what better way than to pass on your knowledge. So if anyone is willing to let me tag along, feel free to respond. Thanks in advance. Moderators feel free to move if you feel there is a better place for this.

Mr.VJP I'm originally from South Carolina. I've hunted mostly boar and axis deer once. I've been an NRA member for more years than I can remember and I keep my membership active. Trust me, I know what you mean about hunting with certain folks. Imagine being the only pro gun, NRA member, pro hunter that works in NYC add to it that my political views differ. It can become very annoying.

This is from my last trip to Florida

There's a ton of deer since it's bow only but there's also a lot of hunters due to proximity to the city.  If you explore enough, you can find your little corner of the woods and the hunting will be good.  It's also helps that it's less of a drive.

For Putnam, I use a muzzleloader since I can use that for shotgun only areas as well as allowing me to extend into muzzleloader season.  I just ordered a 20 gauge rifled barrel for my H&R Handi-Rifle but I'm still waiting for it to come in even though I ordered it over a month ago.

I tried rifled slugs out of my smooth bore Mossberg 500 but my shots were going every where.  I couldn't hit the board side of a barn even if I was standing in front of it.

Hmmmm I may have to look into a rifled shotgun then. I was eyeing the Mossberg Slugmaster. I'm just itching to hunt and I'm tired of catching a flight, getting lodging, paying guide fees and a trophy fee just to do what I enjoy. I'll be able to eliminate some of that by hunting home.

Born, before you spend money on a new barrel, if yours is Modified or Imp. Cylinder choke, try the Federal Tru-Ball slugs.

They are specially designed to be accurate from a smooth bore shotgun, and don't cost as much as sabot slugs for rifled bores.

Google them and you'll see why.

BTW, do you own a car and drive?

Hunting deer in Northern tier is great. The season starts early and there is a ton of acreage. The only problem is when snow season arrives early. Soething to look into. Yes you'll have to get lodging. Their are a ton of bed & breakfast places around. Good luck
