New to forum and hunting

Turkey - good. Birds - non existent - Predator - Good - squirrels - to many. Can hunt predator at night with separate permit. No matter what you hunt. You need to scout and learn the areas.

 

Welcome Coach! Sounds from the above post that you might have to pick up a .22 rimfire and do some squirrel hunting. It's a great way to learn or hone your hunting skills and get some scouting done. Plus, they're pretty tasty and a lot of fun to hunt.

I prefer the 22LR for squirrels in the early season when the trees are still green with leaves but a shotgun is actually more ideal for it since there is going to be a lot of leaves blocking their view.  The squirrels also allows you to get a little closer since they can see you through the leaves either.  During the winter, the 22LR works better than the shotgun since the without any leaves for cover, the squirrels tend to spot you a little earlier and keep a little further distance.
