January bow season on LI

Has anyone heard about Suffolk County opening up their lands for bow use in January this year.  I've heard a few people talk about it, but I can confirm it.  Anyone else hear about it or have more info on it?

Might be unlikely with the shot gun season going on at the same time.

there has been a lot of talk about it happening this year but nothing formal yet from DEC.

You figure they would do something, especially with all the BS in the news about town hiring companies to cull the population.

I may be wrong, but I think the January season is set by Suffolk County and not DEC, so probably up to them.....if it was set by DEC it would have to have been taken care of already.

I know Suffolk County is very slow in putting out any info.  even for the normal season and their licsences.  I was just trying to find out anything more about it.

I heard that its unofficially "official" that you will be able to bowhunt.....LOL. I believe they are working on last minute details before its announced. Fingers crossed....but it will be cold as a MF out there in Jan.

Interesting as a lot of bucks will have dropped horns by then.

It almost feels gluttonous to want the jan bow season considering we already have 3 months. But I confess. I like it. I never get to hunt in december due to holidays and damage control with wife from november. This would offer a nice opportunity. Plus I like the better chance of some hunting in snow.

Some of the best hunts that I have had were during the last week of the season. Bucks were starting to herd up with other bucks and going into survival mode. Very easy to pattern them much like the early season. I'll be looking forward to it.

Would it be weekends only, or would the bow hunters be sharing the woods with shotgun hunters too during week days? Could get kind of tight...

It wouldn't really be tight because the only property you can use a shotgun on is a property or assemblage of contiguous properties greater then 10 acres.  This leaves a lot of other properties open for bow hunting especially with the new 150'  law from a occupied structure without owners permission.  They need to use the extra month to see if we can harvest as many deer as possible.
