University of Chicago study about legal abortions and the crime rate. Read it and/or rant at it the facts speak for themselves.

Ever hear the saying that figures don't lie but liars figure .... lol. It would be interesting to see just who paid for this study.

The interesting thing about this study as regards the topic of this thread, is the tone of such passages as :

"Fertility declines for black women are three times greater

than for whites (12 percent compared with 4 percent). Given that

homicide rates of black youths are roughly nine times higher than

those of white youths, racial differences in the fertility effects of

abortion are likely to translate into greater homicide reductions.

Under the assumption that those black and white births eliminated

by legalized abortion would have experienced the average

criminal propensities of their respective races, then the predicted

reduction in homicide is 8.9 percent. In other words, taking into

account differential abortion rates by race raises the predicted

impact of abortion legalization on homicide from 5.4 percent to

8.9 percent."

It all sounds like an ad promoting abortion among blacks. Kind of reminds me of the days when racists called for sterilization of blacks, a notion that is probably still popular among members of the KKK. It sounds like the idea may have some support among these researchers who seem to think that the most significant cause of crime and violence is the birth rates.

I am not a proponent or opponent of abortion, but the tone of this study certainly does have a chilling effect when their conclusions seem to support a camouflaged version of genocide as a significant solution to crime in this country.

Not sure what axe they are grinding, maybe they are just curious.

Well, it was the University of Chicago that conducted the study. Perhaps the other two entities provided assistance and pieces of the study. But just who was it that coughed up the actual grant money. I always am extremely curious and suspicious of these kinds of studies. I know that in some cases they count on the fact that no one really has the resources or interest to check them out. But I see the power that such research can have, and the fact that so many people merely accept the findings as gospel and then spout those findings all over the globe until eventually it becomes recognized as fact. And we never seem to question any of it, but simply except it as gospel. These people can turn supposition and opinion into fact just by flashing their credentials. I simply have a distrust of handing that kind of power over to anyone without pointing out that these studies do have the capability to be bogus and that their findings and conclusions should carry no more weight than our own native intelligence, logic and reasoning.

I agree, do you?  Good families bring up good kids.  But I will probably be labeled a racist for this opinion.  Finally someone who is not afraid to tell the truth!  Thoughts?

Why is it that every hunting forum I'm part of eventually falls back to these kind of posts.

Some people will always talk politics. The nice thing is that you can just ignore it and stick to the hunting related  topics.

Sort of like when the oil companies funded reports that global warming wasn't happening, then that it was but it wasn't humans fault....and every single conservative believed it...

There have been numerous studies tying legal abortion with lower crime rates, I just linked to the most recent. When a topic is a lightening rod such as abortion it's kind of naive to suggest no one else is interested or willing to fund further investigation. Just like it's naive to suggest that because the University of Chicago took part in this study, the crime rate in Chicago should invalidate said study.

How about those Mets lol

Has a much brighter future than the Yankees.  Real Yankees fans know that with the new collective bargaining agreement, you can no longer build your team through free agency.  You now have to build from within by developing your own players.  All those years of winning have left their minor league barren of talent while all those years of losing has caused the Mets to be completely loaded with prospects.

The real issue is parenting.  Which was my point.  I grew up with many races and the ones with a good family where good people regardless of color.  Most of them had a father figure to help.  The troubled kids (Black or white.) always came from broken homes.  Most ended up in jail or dead.

I agree the TV programs promoting gangster type behavior does not help, especially when they are look upon as hero's.  The access to drugs has gotten out of control especially heavy drugs adding to the issues they face.

So far this year there have been 1,292 people shot in Chicago. In one weekend in April 82 were shot and 14 killed. Are you saying that if there are more abortions in Chicago, there will be less people being born making for less future victims? Please say no.

This is what i said. Why don't you quote Stanford's crime stats or where ever The Bar Foundation is located?

Because the shooting/ murder rate, in Chicago is so off the charts that looking at egg head studies, relating crime rates to abortion???.. is total B.S.  Why don't we get 90% of the people to move out of Chicago? The crime rate should drop considerably…Make sense?? Nope.  The problem is the behavior of PEOPLE, and other people rationalizing and ignoring the real problem.

Yes, it's amazing how no matter what your point of view, you can always find a study to bolster your opinion. Never mind that they all conflict and all claim impeccable credentials. Heck, we had another influential researcher that patterned the way children are raised. This guy Dr. Benjamin Spock was also the darling of the research worshippers who set child rearing on its head and put us on the course that the whole nation followed. He and the liberal  set of legislators created a society where kids run the household and parents fear prosecution for maintaining order in the family. Today we reap the rewards of a permissive society that has undermined the family unit. Why are we shocked and surprised?

There you go Doc. That is how I see society as a whole, no matter what the race or location is. The kids run the households because goody two shoes have made it abundantly clear that the cops or CPS can be called if you discipline your kids. Once they are involved, there is no guarantee what the outcome will be.

When I was growing up if I got in trouble, I got my butt paddled, and was given more work to do because I obviously had too much time on my hands. If I went to a friend's house and got in trouble there was a good chance that I would get my butt paddled there too. Then, I sure didn't go crying to my mommy about it because I would get another licking for getting in trouble at someone elses house.

Get in trouble at school? I sure didn't have mommy and daddy storming down there to tell them how it was all their fault. We had a "Come to Jesus Meeting" at home, and then we went to school with a whole different attitude.

Now, did all this keep me out of all trouble? No! But I always knew the difference between right and wrong. And, I always knew there were consequences if I was caught. Plus, I was well aware by the time I was a teenager, that trouble may involve the law and jail.

I grew up with barely enough to get by, but knew early that welfare was bad. A family was ashamed if they had to get help. I had summer jobs from the age of 13. Mommy and Daddy were not going to go out and spend a fortune on school clothes. Anything extra or fancy I wanted, I knew I had to buy myself. That involved pedaling my bike to the area farms and putting in hay for a couple dollars an hour. No rides from my parents.

People young and old just plain had more pride in themselves back then. This country is chaos now, and it will only get worse as more and more of the younger people want the government to provide for them. I really hope I am wrong, but it sure seems like a me me me country now.

I agree. There is a huge lack of pride and self reliance. I work with the agency that provides section 8 and public assistance. The people that come in there act as if that is how it should be. They come in with $200 sneakers and $100 jeans on yet have no job. It bothers me to no end.

I'll take an egg head over a shit head anytime.

The point your making is that the University of Chicago's study is invalid because Chicago is crime ridden. it's like saying the university of Miami can't conduct a study of public transportation because they have no subway.

Nope.. The point Im making is that the crime rate in Chicago is so incredibly  high that  the crime and criminals themselves , should be addressed and some shit head study about why crime is occurring at such a high rate, shouldn't matter. Deal with the immediate problem. Most shit heads just don't get that.

I agree with just about everything in the vid except you really have to address everything together. crime, education, and parenting/family. as far zero tolerance, some people make mistakes and should be given a chance to succeed in life, any would change if presented with a viable choice, problem is their arnt many choices for someone with no education.

as far as parenting and family, i blame the welfare system for not properly identifying abusers but many have used it as a stepping stone.

as far as education... creating a safe environment in and around schools so kids feel safe is a huge part and drug free zones don't cut it. when the norm in an area is to be dysfunctional the good kids stand out and become targets and often times it goes back home to their neighborhoods.

I am a HUGE believer in charter schools, no unionized teachers so bad teachers arnt teaching their long, love the idea of school uniforms, and bad children stand out like a soar thumb and are often removed if they don't conform. From what I have seen they don't act as day cares and are actually learning institutions. do they have issues sure, but so does public school on a larger scale.
