Ten Point cross bow recall

just came from dicks and was ready to buy. Sales person handed me a list of recalled ten point cross bows. long list. invader warrior titan turboxl tii shadowultralite venom raider vapor stealth carbon elite gtflex

various combos of packages. I just tried to google this and dont see it anywhere yet. dates on this say start date 10/16. i dont have a scanner so cant attach. it says remove all these models from the floor and mark do not sell. there were no ten points on the shelf and i asked and was told of the recall.

Any mention of mfger dates or SNs of models involved in recall? Assuming the 10/16 date you mentioned was for the start of the recall...?

There is going to be a lot of ticked off hunters with crossbow opening on the 1st. I didn't buy a Ten Point or Barnett because of the quality issues. I love my Winchester Stallion.

Well there seems to be something up with Wicked Ridge Crossbows. I just went to Bass Pro Shots Web Site and there is not one Wicked Ridge Crossbows listed for sale.

More info this according to Davis, near ny/nj border. He said something like... It's not mandatory yet and they may not recall. This week will be announcement and we will see if it,happens or not. It's some type of safety thing and newer cross bows will have the safety feature. I have no idea what the safety issue is. Also no idea what dates are involved.

(The guy at Davis was kind of a jerk. I'll never buy anything there)

The post about bass pro seems to support this recall.

One more thing. Dicks called this a "withdrawal" not a recall, to be precise. Also the letter that I saw at dicks had the date of 10/16, and was likely the memo date, or effective date of the withdrawal at dicks. I don't think it had anything to do with manufacturing date.

Last thing I am guessing an email may come out this week, based on what the clown at Davis said. Also guessing if they are pulling from the shelves they will do a recall... That is my guess and is,pure speculation. Hope I am wrong.

Just checked Cabelas site , no Wicked Ridge  or Ten Point listed.   Winchester Stallion is there at a great price , you won't be disappointed with this cross bow . Made in USA, lifetime warranty

Had been looking around the web and has seen many posts about limbs splitting and strings breaking. Definetly a safety recal. But can they fix the problem bows before the deer season starts or ends , depending on where your at. Could be a big blow to the Tenpoint  reputation .

Not a recall at this time.

They have a report of a trigger safety failure - not confirmed it was equipment or operator at this point. They have asked dealers to hold product until contacted this week with more info. If anything they are being preemptive on a situation that may not even exist.

I just got off the phone with customer service.  SteveB is correct. At this time, no recall.  They received a report of one incident and as a precaution, asked the inventories be pulled from the shelves while they did a complete investigation.  Also the customer service person said ...."The CEO has stated as recently as Friday that if you use your bow in the manner directed in the instructions, it is perfectly safe."  I pressed her for if they will recall or not and she somewhat avoided it but then said something close to "There is nothing now that tells me there will be a recall. Of course I dont know about the future."

 

This very well could be a non issue.  If I owned one now, I would sit tight and watch for an announcement.  I still have my eye on one and hopefully this will be cleared up before Nov 1st.

There is not a recall on TenPoint or Wicked Ridge. We are holding the sale of bows while we investigate an isolated incident. We will have more information early this week"

I asked them about if I should no use mine, and this was their reply.

 

No. You are safe to use the bows as long as you follow the owners manual and basic safety like you would with any weapon.

you would think they would be quick to jump on this issue and put out some type of statement......it's really gonna kill sales if they just let the rumor mill run wild.

Dicks is still screwed up. Called them yesterday asking if they put them on the shelf yet or not and the guy told me "They have all been recalled due to a safety concern." Not real happy the way Dicks told me they were recalled and how Ten Point didnt announce anything on the website. Oh well. Ill get over it when I let a bolt fly here soon.

Here is a video showing how to test your TenPoint for this problem. It should not fire on safe as this one (mine) does.

If you watch the video it did not fire the first time when he pulled the trigger, then if you watch he messes with the safty from the right side of the xbow and moves it forward and then back, but not as far back it was before he messed with it.

It won't go completely back as it should. So, it looks to the untrained eye like it is on safe when in fact it isn't.

I have a Ten Point Wicked Ridge and the safty works on mine, as I have mess around with it after hearing about this issue.. If you watch your video it also appears that when you are messing with the safty it appears you push it to fire fast and then move it back slow to safety, but the safty button also appears to go on a upward angle when you are moving it back to the safty postion.

My apologies for not describing the video’s contents. Basically it is a representation of what could happen in a hunting scenario.

 

1) A deer comes in and you decide to take it but have forgotten to take the safety off. Pulling the trigger with the safety on creates a “pre-load” condition. (Some people do this intentionally to lighten the trigger pull but in this scenario it was done accidentally)

 

2) You realize the safety is on and move it to the fire position.

 

3) For any number of reasons you no longer have a shot at the deer and slide the safety back to ‘safe’ but with some (an unknown percentage) TenPoint crossbows the weapon can now be fired while the safety appears to be in the safe position.

 

 

The reason for me slowly moving the safety is that in the first few videos I shot I was going through the process to quickly to clearly see what was happening so I was intentionally slowed myself down.

 

Also, the safety does have some side-to-side play it them. When pulling it back with your right index finger it does tend to tilt but that doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the problem.

 

My intention with the video and my posts here are to make people aware of this issue and show how to properly test for it if you own a TenPoint. If yours does fire on safe call TenPoint and they will fix it.
