I realize cross bow opens, but I been dying to take my lab puppy duck hunting for a long time now. She is fairly well trained, but still a puppy (8 months). It will be an interesting morning and I hope to get at least some shooting to see how she does.  She is pretty squirmy so not sure how that will go over. Good luck out there.

Just finished my vacation/hunt and back in to post on this. So..  wind was screaming sat. morning. Got my decoys out and they were all tangled together. Huge cluster frig up. I managed to separate a few and tossed the rest out as one huge mess. Spread was small and looked questionable. But.. what can you do.  Sun was up and things were flying at that point.  I had a small spread, I htink 10 decoys about. Lots of guns going off up few miles from me. SOme birds flying. I got my lab in between the wife and I and held her tight and kept telling her heel there, sit, stay. SHe was squirmy. But I kept at it. A few birds flew, but most not even close to my spread.  The dog kind of figured I wanted her to stay near me but she didnt like it much.  She did get used to the call though and calmed some after a bit.  Suddenly I spotted a pair of mergansers floating toward us. WHispered to the wife look left, stay still but ready. They were coming. Got into range and I whispered, take them!! I held the dog, for fear she would break. I think that turned out to be a good idea. Wife stood up, shouldered her 20, ducks flew, BANG BANG. One went down. !! Her first shot at a flying duck and she dropped it. So cool. Then the dog was going nuts and I let her go. She was over excited and really did not see what happened.  I pointed and commanded "BACK". SHe started swimming, but did not have eyes on the downed duck. went in circles, tried grabbing a decoy. So I called her back to heel and grabbed a stick. Made a perfect throw to the duck and commanded back again. She swam like a mad dog out there and I thought for a minute she would grab the stick. She did not. Made a nice grab on the duck (merganser) and brought it back.  Similar thing happened next duck, only she had eyes on it after I pointed. I think over all an excellent day for two newbie hunteresses. Proud of my puppy and my wife.

Pics arent working at the moment. Ill update with pics in an hour or so.
