anyone out there hunting or is it to cold to hunt

After last weekend, I ordered a new pair of hunting boots. The 400gram boots are being retired, and I moved up to 800 gram Danners. If that doesn't work, I go to 1000, or call it quits.

 

I had on 800 gram yesterday wool socks and regular socks and still was cold. After lunch I found toe warmers in the truck and helped tremendously.

Yesterday made 8 straight days in the field with my bow/ gun with no good opportunities. I'm getting the feeling the hunting gods are messing with me at this point lol

Three of the places that I have to hunt are at least 50 miles away . I am not going to drive 100+ miles round trip to hunt for 2 hours .

I have a couple of spots closer . One is in Walworth but we havn't seen any deer in well over a week . That's probably due to the duck hunters at the swamp . Another spot is Marion but I can't hunt there unless my oldest son has permission from his friend who owns the land .

If I didn't have something in the freezer I might be out there facing the cold .

Well it's going to be 61 on Monday , so you guys can get out and hunt then, but then you will be crying for cold weather again..

I am heading out now for the evening hunt..

I am bow hunting so sightings are happening just not the deer or range I am looking for ..

I have been out every day except Wednesday morn when the wind was 30 mph.

 

The wind makes it brutal and you can not still hunt because the snow sounds like you step on a bag of potato chips every step just louder. I been seeing a few deer.

I am 63 yrs. old and just retired on Oct. 1. I have been going out in the brutal conditions daily. I stay warm by dressing in layers and my outer layer is a windproof hunting parka. I keep my face protected with a tight knit facemask and I wear a couple pair of 100% wool socks inside my Sorel boots to keep my feet warm. For my hands, I use an Icebreaker handwarmer muff with midweight gloves and a chemical handwarmer inside. I sit on a hot seat in my stand. With this combination, I have had no problem sitting on stand and staying comfortable on these very cold and windy days.

My 800's were of no use the last few days even with thermacell insoles. Had to bust out the 1,000's.

Mucks...toss in a toe warmer and good to go. Def not warm, but bearable for hours and hours. I'll never buy another boot.
