no common sense or respect

Yesterday my dad, uncle, best friend and I were going to do some deer drives on county land.  One spot we were going to first had two trucks there, (black dodge and green ford) so we with  no complaint drove to another spot and began a drive.  I had two does come in to 15 yards and I dropped one then a couple minutes later a small buck came in to 10 feet of me.  I let him go and he went into the wood where the drive was going on. (I'm sore selective on bucks that the other hunting party).  So the guys skipped the piece of woods in front of me to meet up and see my deer before pushing that chunk.  while we were standing there a shot rang right in front of me about 100 yards.  there was NOONE in this area when we started the drive.

My dad circled around to see if anything would be spooked from the shot as I gutted the deer and dragged it to the truck.  when we got back to the truck we noticed that the black dodge from the other location was parked RIGHT NEXT TO my out truck.  We could see in the snow where the guy jumped out of the truck and literally ran along the road and cut into the woods in front of me.  (He must have seen the buck from the road and tried to get infront of him)  while standing by our truck we hear another shot further into the woods and a couple minutes later the green ford came driving by.

we drove over to pick up my dad and sure as shit the other truck was parked again right by our other truck from the drive.  my dad told us that the guy had hit the buck and they were tracking it.  (the guy made the comments of "I hit him hard" and "I shot a big 8 last night on the other road" to my dad when they crossed paths in the woods.)

We couldnt take it and read them the riot act for parking right by us, running in to the middle of our drive on purpose and for not giving us the respect and common courtesy of staying out of the small piece of woods we were hunting as we had done for them!

The only guy to respond (the other knew they were in the wrong and wouldn't even look as us) said what as if he couldnt hear us about ten times and that it was county land and he could do what he wanted.......

I can't get over how bad hunting is getting.  People have NO respect for anyone else and they have all turned into selfish greedy people.  Not to mention he is so stupid to make the comment that he shot a buck the night before and then just shot another!!  And to get into a drive that he knew was occurring is F---ING retarded!!!! you have no idea where we are and we have no idea that you now have snuck in and are right in the line of fire??!!?!?!

I really cant even explain how much this baffles me that someone would be so retarded, disrespectful and greedy! ugh had to vent about those two morons....

It can be frustrating on public land. Yesterday a friend and I went to State land. We both sat on tree seats a few hundred yards and a ridgeline apart. One other hunter we saw was parked at the trail we walked in on and I saw his tracks in the snow kept going farther down the trail from us.After 9a.m. my buddy texts me that a guy is standing on the trail about 30 yds. from him and not moving and when he got this guys attention he waved and then started waving my buddy off as if to tell him to leave the area.My buddy had been sitting there for over 2 hrs. Shortly after that 2 guys walk in where I was and eventually meet up with the guy standing by my buddy. These guys (I assume) pushed a doe by me that I had no shot at and luckily the doe ran downhill away from my buddy and the guy posted by him. These guys didn't know or care that anyone else was hunting there. As the first driver walked in to me I let him know that his posted buddy was not a very safe hunter.I am pretty sure they did not care.I am glad the two walking in to me didn't have any deer jump up behind me and start shooting!!

I understand that is what happens on public land and it can work in your favor but sometimes it is un-nerving.

I feel your pain, but this is nothing new . 20 years ago we had a group ce down from Canada , a local would moose hunt up there with them. , they would come here for deer.

They bought slugs by the case, but not hunting Lic. Trespassed on everyone's posted land. Oh to make it really fun they did drives I'm a circle !

They would surround a field , woods and tighten the circle till deer ran out ,swing and unload .

I've been caught in a Couple of those .....

They no longer come down , I think ever since they needed to have A lic to enter the US.

The last time I was involved with a public land drive it was 1989.

We had 6 watchers and 6 walkers. We knew where everyone else was in our party.

A neighborhood kid saw us getting ready for the drive, and ran into the middle of the drive.  One of our friends shot a huge 8 point and the kid dead.

Never, ever again.

I'm sure public land is frustrating, but often times even gaining access to private land can throw a few curve balls into your strategy depending on who else the landowner allows to hunt his property.

One private chunk I hunt, the owner lets anybody and everybody in as long as they ask. He's just being a nice guy and doesn't give much thought to the fact that there may be too many guys back there at once and how annoying it is to run into another hunter every way you turn.

Sometimes you just need to pattern the other hunters in an area and make some adjustments to your own hunt when others don't or refuse to. I know it sounds like you guys did right by passing up the first chunk of woods, but it may be a matter of assembling your hunting party on a week day to curb the kind of encroachment you guys experienced by those two. I don't think you should be forced to alter your approach, but if you wish to continue to enjoy your hunts there, it may be time to consider alternative options. It sucks, but sometimes you just have to work around what others are doing when you're sharing hunting grounds.

The other day i had some guy trespassing so i went to see who it was. I asked him to leave and he went ballistic, said hes been hunting there for years. Made all kinds of threats. Kinda takes the fun outta hunting.

That sense of entitlement is disgusting.

Turn phone gps on, take pics, especially of back tag, call it in and prosecute. Also go and register the threats w/ local authorities.

I fear he'll be back out there Monday w/ attitude of "I told him"

I would have called he DEC as soon as he said that he already had gotten a regular season buck... and I wouldn't have done it anonymously so that when they denied shooting the 2nd deer I could be contacted to show the officer where and when everything took place if need be... even if the guys got out of it... it is always good to put those kind of hunters on the DEC's radar...

I caught a man and his adult son shooting a doe out of their truck a few years back right in front of me as I came around the bend of a "village" road. The father shot from the driver seat across his son's chest and out the passenger side window with a muzzleloader... he killed the doe. We stopped next to him, he looked at us as I was taking down his license plate number... then he slowly drove off before I could say anything to him... I called a state police buddy of mine who sent out a trooper that took my and my buddies statements and confiscated the doe... she ran the plate number... the guy lived down the road about 2 miles.. she paid him and his son a visit ... they had to confess because we had witnessed the whole thing and they were arrested, for about a half dozen criminal violations then ticketed for DEC violations... they had both of their weapons confiscated, lost their hunting licenses for 5 years and were put on 5 years probation for the criminal part of it... not sure what the fine was, but my buddy said it was a hefty one...

And you live to tell about it?  I would guess you caught the right guy not to get any payback for that one. I can promise ya if that same thing happened today in my neck of the woods and the same thing played out as you explain...Well lets just say you would hear from them again. Right or wrong..I can tell ya 2 stories that happened years ago that had a little bit of the same stuff happen and if you were to talk to the 1 fella that ratted and another was a CO officer himself and a bar room bathroom, I am sure they would say they would like to forget about those days. Some things are better left alone.

I guess in your neck of the woods nothing good ever comes out of a bar room bathroom.....do they have holes drilled in the walls between the stalls?

Thats good. Glad you found the right one that trip. As long as you can sleep at night. Would suck to be always looking over your shoulder. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Well i guess if anyone would know a rat.you would fit the bill. Come north and hunt sometime and mess with the wrong folks.  I know many that would hand you your ass over a buck or a hunting spot.

How do you know WE'RE not the wrong folks to mess with? Just sayin'

I've come to the conclusion that FSW was one of those dorks in high school who always got picked on. Now, in an effort to try to fit in and be cool, he exaggerates every single story.
