L.I. January Shotgun Hunt

That's why I would personally would never hunt in January...I don't even like shooting does after the rut.

Headed out tomorrow with my brother and niece. FYI Sunday starts the no reservation system for the last week. They said to be there by 6 to get your name in the lottery. I'll report back in.

We just got back in, very slow. We hunted from 7 until 1. I saw a glimpse of a small deer early on that was it. We had spot 10. Most tracks were from the north east section of the property. We walked all that time nothing to show for it.

did you happen to inquire how the season has been going as far as success? from what I've heard it's been kinda slow.

Yes that is what they are saying at Ridge. Rough winter last year and they did some deer culling. I haven't seen as much this year as the past 2. That also could just be luck. Some guys are doing a number on them this year. It was still a great morning out in the woods.

I saw on the other site some guys got out today and scored. I could never hunt in 30 inches of snow, deer are at a disadvantage  also.

I thought today was the last day of LI shotgun season. I could be wrong though.

Saturday is the last day of LI shotgun season. Season extended to weekends in Dec 2014. I'm heading out tomorrow and Saturday for what will surely be the 7th and 8th time I get skunked!

My GPS said I walked almost 4 miles in fairly deep snow and saw NOTHING!

Bowhunted last night nightmare getting to the stand in 24"++++ deer were yarded up. Not one seen from stand. Saw five walking through yards on my way out

Headed out tomorrow with shotty and snowshoes for last licks
