read in the daily news the state ok'ed seasons this year for elk and moose i never seen neither while hunting i know penn has some decent elk and heard adirondacks have some moose

Currently (as far as I know) there are no Elk in New York .

I doubt that we will see a moose season in NY within the next 5-10 years unless they have a virtual population explosion.

Even then, there will be MANY applicants for few tags. Drawing a tag will be like hitting the lottery, similar to Pa's elk drawing, where tens of thousands of applicants compete for perhaps 50 tags.

Maine has 1000s of moose, but there are still many residents up there who have applied for 30 years and never drawn a tag.

I wouldn't get real optimistic about the odds of drawing a NY moose tag anytime soon. Like in THIS lifetime...<<grin>>...

Moose sightings are getting common in St Lawrence County. We had a cow & calf hanging around about 5 miles South of me a few summers back.

Even though I probably will not get the opportunity to hunt moose or elk in NY in my lifetime. I would gladly pay for the chance to apply for a tag, if ever a season for them

should come about. Like the lottery, ya can't win it if you're not in it!

As Whitetail numbers decline due to reduced timber harvesting in the Adirondacks, moose should recover. Whitetails carry a parasite that is not fatal to them, but it is fatal to moose.

I cant wait to have the chance to hunt moose in NY! I would gladly pay for the chance. Id love to see elk as well but they have to be re-introduced first.

There are some Moose in the northern Ft Drum area, never heard of Elk in the wild in NY.

if you want to see a lot of moose go to Newfoundland - been there twice - they have moose like we have rabbits

Here in nh moose are are having big problems with winter tick and brain worm killing them off. I got picked in 1998 to hunt them they gave out 550 permits in 2014 127 permits.
