Beer Cans

While I am sure some people may take beer to the stand, I suspect many of the cans found were probably consumed either by non-hunters, or at times not hunting. Not justifying or condoning anything, but I think alot of people are telling themselves a story (ladder of inference) because they are equating to finding beer cans around a stand or in the woods as factual that it was drank while someone was hunting.

 

I am sure alot of these beers were probably drank by kids who found the stand, or kids who camped out in the summer, etc. Or, they could be beers drank by the hunters during non-hunting times, whether it be after some stand work, etc. It doesn't excuse the piss poor action of leaving it around, but I suspect a big portion of the beer cans found are not by hunters. Look at the beer brands, too. Many times they'll be cheaper brands - which I would guess is likely from teens. I see alot of GL, PBR, and basic colored water brands.

 

I've found beer cans around my stand before, and 6 mos. later found out it was a younger cousin who had been entertaining a young lady and they parked the truck and had a small bonfire in the field. They walked around the woods a bit and hung around my stand and tossed the cans. They got a talking to for leaving the trash, but it certainly is alot more plausible than me drinking them while on stand because that most certainly won't happen.

As stupid as it sounds, i think I am more bothered by the litering than the thought of someone hunting and drinking.  Probably because I agree with you in that MOST (or at least i would like to think so) of the beer cans are not from people carryind a loaded gun. 

 

Unfortunately, it would be naive to think that people don't do this though.  I personally know of someone who drinks and hunts.  I make sure I am not within 10 miles of him while i am hunting.

Most of what I find in the woods have nothing to do with booze. Probably the most numerous are candy bar wrappers, and snack bags and wrappings. And then there are those zip-lock sandwich bags. And then soft-drink or water bottles. Things that nobody had any problem carrying in, but for some reason have a real problem figuring out how to carry them back out even with the contents disposed of.

 

Oh and by the way, there seems to be a lot more of that crap along the bike and hiking trails than by hunters stand areas.

Doc here are two balloons I found on my last shed hunt. I swear my spot must be under some main flight path for these things , right where they start to drop. I find some each year, the ones caught in branches you can see from a long ways off, at first I often think it's a person in the woods," hey there's someone in blue over there .....

Am I the only one who noticed in the first pic Larry is either a nice Buck or he brings a deer mount with him?

people of all walks of life leave cans and trash in the woods.  doesn't make sense and very poor thing to do.  we do an annual highway clean up near tomhanock reservoir every year and it's unreal the trash that comes from there.

Yeah I had to leave a pair of boxer briefs behind this year, forgot my tp and I was a long ways from the road, I at least covered the mess with a large rock to prevent others from stumbling near them since it was state land! But I also grab what garbage I can on the way out of the woods hunting or not.

I don't know what apalls me more, the total lack of respect for our wildeness and complete ignornace of people who toss their beer cans in the woods OR the fact that people think it is ok to consume alcohol while they are hunting with a deadly weapon!

 

I shed hunted for about 6 hours yesterday and came across no less than 50 beer cans in the woods.  I came across a tree stand that had 12-15 laying around at the base of it.

 

People disgust me.....and scare me.....that they would even fathom drinking and shooting.

 

I can walk deep into any set of woods and always rely on fiding at least 1 beer can.  Crazy.

Man we are a landing zone for every @#$#%$@ Mylar balloon in the county and those stinking %$@$@ hot air paper balloons...hey ppl they have metal rings!!! and helium latex balloons...the beer and red cans are multiplying in the culvert ditch and I made the town remove the gym equipment plugging the culvert opening on our lower property..I draw the line...pigs pigs pigs..Yep I do not use those orange "arm " gloves yet they  magically appear in my woods every year...hhhmmmm

I am surprised that someone isn't all over the Mylar balloon issue.  For how sensative the EPA is now days (most of it total politcal BS), you would think having these things littering the world and NEVER biodegrating, should be an issue.  1,000,000 years from now, some advance race is going to find human skeletons, living cockroaches and f'n mylar ballons....lmao.

 

Not to mention they are a major fire hazard when they get hung up on power lines!

Downwind from one of the lakes? You always see people launching the chinese lantern deals. Speaking of the lakes, I can only Imagine the amount of trash at the bottom of them. Between fireworks (ever clean your yard up after shooting a whole bunch of them off?), boaters, flooding washing stuff in there, etc it has to be crazy.

I just don't understand why people don't carry out their trash.  You could carry it in, its lighter now that it is empty, and can be crushed to make it easier to pack out.

 

When I camp, the spot is cleaner than when I got there.

 

Finding someone else's spent brass does leave a marker on a spot to watch for some future hunting action, but they should clean up after themselves.  Those bright red and yellow ones are very easy to spot.  I can understand missing ones that are black or certain shades of green. When they are just laying right in the open on a clear stony or short grass trail/road, what could be their excuse?

 

Found a thong once, not kind you wear on your feet.  So someone had some other recreation going on.

I think, although you were probably kidding, there is some science behind that. I would assume the lower the income, the cheaper the beer people drink (positively correlated).  I would then assume the cheaper the beer, the lower the standards of that person (positively correlated).

Let me tell you how i see it. I lived in Red Hook Brooklyn growing up, right near the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and I belonged to Scout Troop 265. Our troop would organize and go clean up trash around the Battery Tunnel. My personal experience is that moneyed people throwing trash out of the car windows caused most of the trash we picked up. I would even venture to say the more expensive the car the more trash it spewed. I saw this with my own eyes. They care not for the neighborhood they traveled through and showed it with their contempt and trash.

 

My personal belief is that a certain percentage of the population is going to be scumbags regardless of weather they have money or not. This percentage is spread across all wage levels, religions, creeds and political ideologies. All things being equal I believe no one would argue that money is an enabler. The more money you have the more you can throw away.
