The Frog Pond by the House

Recommended Posts

Only fathead minnows in pond. They are food for the mergansers and kingfishers. There are many frogs and tadpoles that are also food for birds, snakes and dragonfly larvae. My other pond had trout but some years the water drops and warm water killed them. Now it's filled with bluegills that swam up the outlet. There's a green heron hanging out over there but I haven't checked that camera lately.

I checked the camera today because the snapping turtle has been hanging out on the far side of that log. I guess it is too far, or moves too slowly to trigger the camera.

Here are some more. Some are older.

Merg hanging with the woodies is a great pic!

That log is 30 yards from my back door. 80% of the pond is screened from the house by willows. It seems very private for the ducks, The back yard doesn't get used much. I put the log there for bird/frog/turtle watching.
