Packing heat while on the trail

I think the NYS Parks are pretty strict about not possessing any firearms while in the park. The park cadre are usually right on top of anything bad that goes on inside the park. Travel to and from the park is an issue, but I really do think you are pretty safe traveling most places in New York State. If you believe you must go to a certain area armed you should rethink going there at all.

That said, my daily 3 mile hike is across the street from my house on my hunting clubs property. There are two places I shoot at targets placed on piles of sawdust. (I also have 20 lb. dumbells stashed at two places I stretch and do pushups and water the dog). I shoot at least a dozen or so rounds every day. I've had two incidents with bears and one with coyotes in the 24 years we've been in the house. I always carry a "j" frame because of my neighbor's pit bulls that hate me and my old black lab.

I don't know why but the picture you painted really made me chuckle. I just see this guy in the woods stretching and doing push-ups and then he pulls out his gun and shoots a little.
