Bowhunters in Antlerless Early Season Units

55 members have voted

  1. 1. What will you do for the first two weeks?

    • Get out there and hunt for does at the same frequency and intensity as before
      15
    • Hunt adjoining or other WMUs where bucks can be taken in first two weeks
      11
    • Pass on hunting until I can shoot a buck as well
      10
    • Hunt, but not at the same frequency or intensity as before for the first two weeks
      15
    • Hunt more so I can whack em and stack em bloodbath style
      4

OK. In true DEC fashion, the current sample size is fine. Close the poll, draw your conclusions and make your decisions...lol

It doesn't look good. We're screwed, lol.

Hello muzzleloader in bow season. Maybe dbhunter can then tell everyone how none of us know what we're talking about and the DEC is infallable.

are you a politician?  I did not ever say DEC is infallible.  now if I thought that, I wouldn't be volunteering my time to run a co-op to manage deer regardless of DEC wishes.

... I voted for option 4 btw.  not the same frequency or effort the first two weeks as before.  so which one of your group was the 1 vote or blood bath vindicator?

No worries - just making light of the back and forth.

It wasn't me. I voted for less frequency.

the report was pre-written btw.  you'll need to FOIL file for it though.  until then you can't have it.

And you still won't get it and need to have a fancy attorney sue for it, such as the recent Safe Act rate of compliance!

I knew that way back when the DEC was pushing so hard for the inclusion of an early muzzleloading season years ago. I knew the issue would not go away, and I suspected that the DEC would figure out a scenario to get what they wanted. I am convinced that they see bow season as a total waste of some prime deer harvesting time. That is why they have been trying everything they can to introduce firearms into bow season. They want that precedent set so they can expand the acceptance of guns in bow season.

So we have been handed a challenge that is impossible to succeed at even if everyone were to try their best. Better than that, they are the keepers of all the numbers and able to massage the interpretation of the results in any way that they want. Seriously, we don't need a poll to know how this is all going to turn out.

So far, only 35% would hunt at the same frequency and intensity or higher. 65% will hunt other units, not hunt at all, or reduce their time in the stand for that period.

So it may very well happen that the archery doe-take in those areas could go down substantially because of the DEC's brilliant program. Gee, I guess all those people who were surveyed kind of missed that little potential side-effect. And since no one at the DEC can think for themselves without a mandate from stakeholders, It may wind up a result that slips by everyone.

Or perhaps the DEC knew exactly what would happen.

Of course they know, but they also don't care. They don't release the data necessary to box them in to hold them accountable, allowing to do as they see fit.

I'm not much into the roll over and die mindset, but I can't certainly blame people for it in this situation.

I asked Jeremy the great how many deer we should have in 8g- no response yet (3-4 months after). I'd bank their desired goal is reduce the population as much as possible. They don't know how many are here, how many perished in the winters, how to amend a plan designed in 2008&9 .... But they do know how they want more revenue and how they can reduce deer car collisions..... And that deer get the blame for regrowth of forests

That's the new scientific unit of measure at the DEC : "As much as possible".....lol.

The problem with this whole thing is people seem to only shoot what they will use for many that 1 deer, usually preferably a buck,

Until there is an easy way to, and hunters mentality changes to kill and donate doe to food banks ,ect you can add all the tags you want it won't increase the take unless you can recruin more hunters ( enter the x bow ,and early muzzleloader )

There is already an easy way to donate deer to food banks. Many local processors accept them. All you need to do is drop it off, tag it as you want to donate it, and thats it. Then you just report it as normal.
