The strikers (lids) and lips of box turkey calls require frequent chalking to make the desired sounds. Many hunters favor  blue carpenter's chalk, but generally any chalk will work as long as it is not greased or coated chalk, as some blackboard chalk is. The coated stuff causes your striker and call lips to glaze over and ruins the sound of the call.

Generally, if your box call gets wet, it sounds like crap until it dries out. The rain chalk supposedly works on your call even when wet.

I've never tried it, so I can't tell you from experience how well it works.

Bill mentioned in one of his posts that he planned to buy some, and since I have some and probably won't use it I was going to give it to him.  But he won't talk to me.

Maybe he thinks I have cooties or something.<<grin>>...
