What do you see?

I'm still seeing a fox ,there is a patch of ground below its head that would make it look like a hog face but when you realize it's not part of the face ,the fox face becomes very noticeable.

No not really, I originally posted this on the other site back in April...the day after the picture was taken I think, or close to it. Though it does tie in well.... with that as an example of why we see  things as we do.  Sharpens the point that many things can distort how we view thing. Why every year hunters are shot in turkey season and some times in gun even bow across the country. I have  on more times that I would like stood looking at bedded buck ..well in range and spent so much time trying to make sure I was actually seeing a buck and not some guy that snuck in they'd  had enough and bolted. Made me not a happy camper but no regrets,  because my gut told me don't risk it...why a good pair of binos should never be forgotten if no scope is on. Many others could have stood where I have and clearly make the shape and rack out under a bank against a back drop of similar colored brush. But I drew down on a doe once to have an orange cap pop up just cresting her back as I was about to squeeze the trigger. A trespasser that saw all the trucks leave assuming no one was hunting..in that same note..It could have just as well been me shot by him... Though thankfully he saw neither my full body orange nor the deer..because the contour of the land and sun...luck...So that experience now is a prime subconscious reference in spotting deer.

Anyhow ...I hope you all found it at least interesting hopefully thought provoking ...

I did, although it is not the first time that I had thought about mistaken perceptions in the woods. That is one of the reasons why I do not support extending shooting hours beyond the current limits. I have seen cloudy, foggy, drizzly days in a dark woods with a dense over-story that had me guessing at a few things that I thought I was seeing. This photo and some others that I have seen over the years of trail-cams point out how things can look like several different things to several different people.  It has been a great Rorschach type test that shows that there are occasions and conditions where what we think we see is absolutely wrong.

I'll tell ya sitting in a stand in archery for hrs on end you start to "see" things

I was just talking about the shooting times the other day, I was a little baffled why turkey hunting is 1/2 hour before sunrise and deer is not....I would think that someone would more easily misidentify a black blob in the woods for a turkey them someone would a deer that is more defined , but maybe I'm missing something and there's more to it then that.
