The 2011 deer hunting is upon us, and wow are we excited! We have decided to have our second contest, The Hunting NY 2011 Best Buck and Story Contest!
What are the rules? The deer must have been taken this year; you must attach one or more photos to your post, one of which clearly shows its tagged with the current years NY DEC license, as well as a brief story to go along with it. Please be as descriptive as possible, hunting stories are always a lot of fun to read, especially when one results in a buck. All you have to do is become a member of http://HuntingNY.com, and create a NEW post under this section: http://huntingny.com...-story-contest/ If you're not sure how to do that, just follow the link above and start typing your story, remember to attach pictures. If you still need assistance just email us or post a question in the forum. Entries must be posted to the forum by December 31st, 2011, the winners will be announced the following week after voting has been completed. The judging process is still to be determined, however it will more then likely be based on the photo as well as the story, and the winner will be determined based on a weighted percentage of the public vote as well as the sponsors vote. HuntingNY members are allowed one vote, you can vote for yourself.
Please keep in mind this could not be done with out the support of all our sponsors. I want to give a special thank you to Fins to Feathers Taxidermy for their beyond generous contribution this year to the contest. Please make sure you visit all of their websites and show support. And please forward on the website to friends, family and hunting partners. Also remember to give us a "LIKE" on Facebook, you can visit our Facebook page here: http://facebook.com/HuntingNY

Let's hear some stories! To post your story, please click here: http://huntingny.com...o=new_post&f=61 - Fill in the subject, the story, and attach a photo.
Some info on the the Mount provided from Fins to Feathers Taxidermy:
Here is the issue, it would be great to have the winning mount done by the guys at Fins, however it may not be practical. You would have to freeze the head, and wait until the contest is over. They have offered the option of giving you a certificate good for 1 year from the end of the contest (December 31, 2011) to get your free mount if you choose to do so. This way if you do not have the freezer space to hold your head until the conclusion of the contest you can use it in on a deer during the following year. If you are not local to the Taxidermist, and do not wish to drop it off, you are responsible for the shipping / transportation of the head / mount to and from them.
A little more on the Lighted hat:
Our LED Lighted Cap illuminates what you are looking at without having to hold a flashlight or put on a headlamp. Ultra-bright LEDs are embedded in the visor so all you have to do is press the switch and you have instant light. When you need light, just click the switch hidden in the underside of the brim and you have instant Ultra Bright Light from the LEDs that are built into the brim! 3 Ultra Bright LEDs are concealed in the front of the brim and lights up a 15 foot area bright enough to do whatever task awaits you. This exclusive 3-way lighting technology lets you select the lighting configuration you need for your specific task; Low Beam (2 under brim LED’s) for up-close tasks like Reading, Hobbies, Home Repair, etc.) High Beam ( 1 Ultra Bright LED in the brim) for distance lighting for biking, running, etc. Power Beam (all 3 LED’s) when you really want a lot of light for Walking, Camping, Grilling, etc.
And again, not to repeat myself, but I will. Please spread the word about HuntingNY.com to friends, family and hunting buddies. The more people we have the more interaction, fun, and knowledge we can all share about hunting in the state of New York. With that said, spread the word, get others involved in the sport, and have a safe and fun 2011 hunting season!

No entries yet?! I want to see some stories.
NY has the highest yearling buck harvest rate of all the states in the country. 63% of the total statewide buck harvest are 1.5-year-old bucks. Antler Restrictions promote buck survival, healthy social behavior, increased breeding / rut behavior, as well as mature the herd to a nature state.

nobody entered yet?

Once again, bear are excluded from the contest? Are they not considered big game in NY? Is this DeerHuntingNY.com? Pretty narrow minded if only deer are considered worthy prey on this site. How about we allow bears in the contest and let the members decide if the story of the hunt is worthy of first place? I guess the deer with the biggest rack will win, even if was shot by a guy who just happened to wake up as the buck was walking past his stand. I think the contest should be about a great hunt, with a great outcome, not about antlers alone, or deer alone for that matter.

Who said it was about antlers? Its about the story and a buck. Please look at last years, it was NOT the biggest rack that won. I'll consider bear next year if there is enough interest.

Last year's contest was great. The really good entries had alot of detail about their hunt and their history with the particular deer. I personally looked forward to logging on and seeing if someone posted in the thread. Looking forward to this year's.
I am hoping I get to make a post myself!

BTW, this contest is not just for gun season, you guys with bucks from bow season, get them entered in. Like John said, its not just about the antlers, its about the story that goes along with the pics!
I figured there would be some entries by now!
