This is my son's first King, from this past fall.  He caught it at midnight off of Charlotte pier on his 2nd cast of the night.  Biggest fish of the evening.  I was very proud of him.

Skillet, what did you use to catch those salmon, egg sacks ? Congratulations.

I always set out a sack line, but I catch most of them on green / white or blue / white glow, in the dark K.O. Wobblers.

I think I have a few K. O. Wobblers but I don't think mine glow in the dark. I will have to remember that.

I fish mainly at night, usually from around 2200 - dawn.  The kings come in a lot closer at night, and their activity really picks up.  I fish the Genesee river, right where it meets lake Ontario.  No restrictions, other than I think you cannot fish upstream of the first impassable barrier at night

On the sack lines, we leave the bail open and wrap a loop of line around the neck of an empty beer bottle.  Fish hits, bottle falls.  I've had such violent hits that the bottle has broken.  From the sounds of it, you've had enough Genny's for the night, brother. LOL.  That used to be my favorite beer, don't drink anymore tho.

If this is how your fishing, its exactly how I fish for Lake Trout and Brown Trout on the nyc reservoirs in westchester and putnam county. Instead of a strike guard (bottle in your case), look into the Okuma Epixor Baitfeeder Reels. They work amazing. You just flip the switch and the tension if enough to hold the bait (sawbelly/shiner in my case) at the desired depth, but when a fish hits it, they feel no resistance whatsoever and your line starts peeling out (screaming sound). I give it 15-30 seconds before setting the hook. Good Luck!
