  1. We haven't had a good hatch in several years. Bad winter didn't help, long beards we shot we all 16-18 lbs. Pretty small bodies. Didn't find any winter kills. our part of the southern tier has pretty good habitat , but without good hatches and predator issues, we will never get back to mid '90 numbers.
  2. I like the experience of walking in to many of my spots. I also like the experience of hunting with my 80 year old father, of which he cannot walk, but sit on a bucket and wait for deer or someone to talk to . I haul him into the woods on a side by side. I don't apologize for it, I don't believe I'm any less an outdoorsman than if I walk. I also don't believe his experience is any less wonderful since he rode in. He's out enjoying being part of something, and isn't this what it is all about?
  3. My old 1995 suzuki king Quad is headed toward retirement, my 80 year old Dad can't comfortably ride on the back. Its electrical system is giving me fits, so its going to be my wood hauler around the farm. Bought a 2013 John Deere 550. with the discounts John Deere has and the other money off is going to be around 12,000 with the plow , winch. and upgraded bumpers. Haven't heard much about them, mostly going to be used to haul Dad around in deer and turkey season, plow the driveway and shag the goose decoys out to the pit. Hopefully will give the 80 year old some more outdoor memory's. Any thoughts on this rig?
  4. I have a 1987 Lee LaBlanc New york State Stamp Print in Mint shape was wondering if anyone has an idea of value or desireability? am looking to change the walls in the house and want to move a few that I don't hang. Thanks!
  5. Many of the state game lands have fenced in area's to show the world the havic that deer play on the land. Since the deer per square mile is much smaller than 20 years ago, you can't tell the difference between either side. The DCNR, Game commission and insurace industry want way less deer. Us hunters want 150" bucks and lots of them running around. You can really understand why these game managers struggle about which direction to go. It used to be the sportsman had the biggest voice in how our game was managed. Not anymore.
  6. I have hunted PA since 1970, and have live in the finger Lakes since 1985 so hunt both states. Back before A/R the does were trimmed back pretty far, doe permits were easy to get and you were permitted a second deer, not just one and done. I hunt 2G. We were failrly successful , some nice bucks, some not. Because of predation, our herd has basicaly stayed the same. we are fortunate to have better habitat due to continuous logging.hunter numbers up north have dropped, by quite a bit in most areas. I think the thing that both states need to answer to the sportsman, is what is best for the overall health of the deer herd? At this point, I don't believe either state can answer that. I also don't like to be told what kind of buck to shoot. I also hate to see the Seniors have too count points. Our local warden told us if we didin't like the amount of deer in our area, sell the camp and go elsewhere.
  7. I have hunted PA since antler restriction was jamed down our throats by G. Alt. The GC likes to brag that our nicer bucks are all about the AR. But what about the better habitat since deer numbers are down up North. Same with number of guys in the woods. Hunters in camps up north are at an all time low. Why should you penalize our senior hunters by making them count points? Your only allowed one buck, by the way. If the DEc came out and actually said what the purpose of this is and if the health of the herd would be positively impacted, they might have a better job selling it. I hate to be told what to shoot, its my tag and should be able to shoot what I want. Have hunted both states for years, so would just as soon be happy with the one buck.
