  1. So I have yet another question from my father that doesn't like these "forum" type website, but doesn't mind me asking everyone on here for their opinion LOL. Anyway, he is looking at a new heavy coat for cold weather. Seeing as I have Under Armor hoodies that are ridiculously warm, I told him to look at the UA hunting jackets. He says if he is going to spend that kind of money, he wanted some opinions from people who actually bunt in NY state. He isn't sure how they can really be that warm and be so thin. Anyone on here use them? And if not, what do u wear for the cold weather stand hunt?
  2. My very first thought was a porcupine stripped a strip and that's it. 2nd thought was the woodpecker....then my father called and explained that was was something that was actually coming OUT of the tree.....
  3. My father just sent me this picture and neither him nor I know what it is. According to him, it is about 3in wide and 6ft long. He says it looks like the tree is "bleeding" orange something or other. I dont know if you can see it or not in this picture but at the top of the stripe, it has 2 small holes that look like something (bug, bird, mammal,??) bored into the tree. ANY help would be appreciated.....
  4. So let's say u have left your trail cams up and u have pics of two DIFFERENT Tom's, and u know they are different because one has a double beard, coming to the SAME exact spot twice every morning. Once at 0730 and again between 0930-1000. When I say every single day, it's literally every single day.... The question is would you bother going out and trying to roost the bird(s) or just hunt that spot. There are a couple of tree tops and a blow down already there. For the record, not that it really matters, but I am asking so my father can visually see everyone's opinion on what he should do because he doesn't like my answer when I tell him to just go pop a squat in the tree top
  5. Just curious as to what everyone's "must have" piece of equipment is when your in the woods? And I'm speaking of the non obvious like ur gun/bow, ammo, license and tags....stuff like that Is it a favorite piece of clothing that keeps u warm? Your gand dad's knife he gave u? Is it your lucky socks? Your camera? Stuff like that. ....I figure if nothing else this is good stand reading material and maybe, just make it'll help someone remember that ONE thing when they are packing to go to camp. It's probably gonna be good for a laugh or two as well
  6. Sorry if this may have been covered already but I have a question for all of you.... My father gave this old school Garmin GPS II and the thing doesn't work for $#!t. I can't even get it to find a damn satellite and it been on and outside for an hour. As I firmly believe in the need to have a GPS, does anyone know of an app for android that acts like a new school Garmin or Magellan hunting GPS? Like an app that u can mark way points and the like. I'd hate to have to go spend $100+ when I can buy a $5 or $10 app for my phone
  7. I agree with Googleing some exercises. I think I am going to go over to cabelas this coming week and use that $20 gift card I've had hating around so it'll only cost me $10. I can live with $10 to try something. If it doesnt work for me I can give it to the wife as a "gift"and tell her I was thinking of her when i seen it and wanted to help her build up her bow muscles so I could get her a new bow and get her out of that shitty alpine I made the mistake of buying her years ago Win win right?
  8. If ur worried about getting "someone else's problem", which very well could be the case, try fostering the pup/dog first to see if it is a good fit for the family, lifestyle, and purpose for the animal. It'll save both u and the dog a ton of hassle, aggravation and heart break
  9. I may be VERY wrong here on saying this but if it is a recoil operated semi....it may only like the high brass shells due to the heavier load. Again.....may be wrong but throwing it out there
  10. I really have to disagree with you on this one. Like I said before, we have two of them out right now and have nothing but great results with them both. Both during the day AND at night. we have them set at the simple settings of 4mp for the camera so we can get the most pics out of the cards (not that we should worry with 32gb cards in them) and I dont have them set up for video. As far as the audible click, I havent noticed anything like that. And as far as I can tell, neither have the animals. We have had the same animal stick around for 30-45 mins at a time taking anywhere from 60 to 100 pictures. If there was an audible click when the camera shot a pic, I'm pretty sure they wouldnt be sticking around for as long as they do. Then as far as the flash, I will say that I am not sure about the flash range, but again, we have plenty of night shots of all different kinds of animals and none of them have seemed to concerned about a flash. These are just a few samples of the pics we are getting with our Trace cam's
  11. Last year I went to try and draw my bow (60#) and couldn't even budge the string. I am thinking it is because of the neck surgery and damage I have done to my neck and shoulders and the multiple surgeries etc. I would like to try to get my strength back to be able to draw it again, try being the key word there. I think it could be a good type of physical therapy for me as well as getting closer to being able to bow hunt again. I have been told many times by a couple of my doctors who hunt that when you draw a bow, it is the ONLY time that you will use those muscles. Meaning that the muscles you use to draw your bow are ONLY used for that purpose. So it's one of those use it or loose it type things and I have more than lost them at this point. I was doing some good old surfing on this here inter web and came across this thing. Does anyone know anything more about it? Anyone here ever use it? Does it really work? I have read the reviews and from what the people say, it sounds pretty good. But I am still unsure about reviews posted on a seller's website so here I am asking the people on here that can be trusted not to be partial http://www.cabelas.com/product/BOWFIT-Upper-Body-Exerciser/745482.uts#BVRRWidgetID
  12. Does anyone know if NY is planning on adding more days to use the crossbow? Or even open it up to full season archery for 2015? Like I said, sorry if this has been covered already but I don't get on a ton anymore due to health issues. My newlywed wife told me she would buy me a new PSE xbow for my birthday but I wanna justify it. I know...silly me, why does it need to be justified...just take the gift and say ty dear right?
  13. Had ours out for almost 2 months. They got checked yesterday amd was nice to see a bucks progression. I've never been able to see such a thing b4 so it's pretty cool to me. Also have 45-50 of a decent yogi hanging around. Would be nice if I could finally see a live bear outside of a zoo. Been hinting for almost 30yrs and have only seen dead ones. But so far it's looking like this might be the year if my health allows me to get out
  14. U can get a moultrie trace on ebay brand new not a refurbished for $35ish. I have oneas well as my father and all i did was put a vinyl camo wrap on them. We've had them out for about 2 months and they work awesome. The pics are great and takes great video as well. The are based on the 880 platform from moultrie
