	When it rains hard around here it is a pretty good bet the local Turkeys will be coming out of the woods and heading into more open areas. I believe they feel the rain and wind in the woods makes for conditions that take away to some extent their keen senses, I think they feel safer in open areas where they have good vision of their surroundings. I have these guys patterned pretty well. Bottom line, if I still hunted Turkeys I would be hunting the edges of woods on rainy days.

<p>
	First one flew down and started to walk towards me. At 30 yards I let him have it! Man was I excited. Had to put a stick across his neck and he was done.
</p>

<p>
	Going to have him mounted. Ended up being 17 lbs 8.5 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. Real beautiful bird.

	My son missed a Jake in PA Saturday in the miserable weather, followed it up with a beautiful double bearded  heavy Tom. Saw 11 beards in these high winds and it was not easy, we covered 5-6 miles locating a dozen birds, when we found them they wanted to play. Our buddies son missed a Jake for his first bird. Back at it Thursday.

	I went to retrieve my ladder that got buried under my elevated deer house stand that blew over. Thank goodness without me in it! And when I got there I kicked up at least 20 deer.  Tails going everywhere! <br />
	Then I caught site a a really big Tom strutting across my field.  I videoed some of him and tried to get a few pictures.  <br />

</p>

<p>
	Then after pulling my ladder out and stacking some of the salvaged wood, I rode up into the woods to check the couple cameras I have.  I’m actually there now.  And the woods were booming with gobbling for about 45 minutes I’m up here. It’s the first spring in many years I have heard this here.  <br />

</p>

<p>
	I may actually get the bug to try his Spring.

	the weeks before and first week of season I was getting lots of pics of big long beards and hens on my cameras .
</p>

<p>
	 They were coming out of the woods to a field area I kept mowed .
</p>

<p>
	i set up my ground blind and had one big Tom come close .. I haven’t seen a turkey on any of my cameras since ??
</p>

<p>
	would it still be worth putting out my hen decoy on this mower of and calling ?
</p>

	So I’m seeing lots of birds on my trail cam
</p>

<p>
	I want to use my 20ga 1187 3” mag with 28” bird barrel
</p>

<p>
	I have a full choke tube , do I need a turkey choke ?
</p>

<p>
	I have 2-3/4 “ 4 Shot Remingtons or Kent 3” number 4 and 5 shot Turkey , assume the Kent’s would be best ?
</p>

<p>
	Should I camo wrap my gun or doesn’t it really matter ?
</p>

<p>
	Thanks for the help

	Day two was a success. Opening day I messed up. Today was excellent. Spotted 3 Tom's in the field last evening. Followed them to roost. Snuck back in early this morning.  They gobbled from the roost. Nothing on the ground. A few soft yelps and a short time later a saw a white head move. He came in silent.  <a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://huntingny.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2024_05/20240504_071335.jpg.eeb7672bd93c8f91a2b361f9afed0318.jpg" data-fileid="142074" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="142074" data-ratio="133.21" width="563" alt="20240504_071335.thumb.jpg.208a98c9819b3255aeef57ae1cc94f7f.jpg" data-src="https://huntingny.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2024_05/20240504_071335.thumb.jpg.208a98c9819b3255aeef57ae1cc94f7f.jpg" src="https://huntingny.com/forums/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></a>

	I’m beyond excited, I had a back to back in 2 days with 2 awesome hunts. Thursday I called in 10 birds at once, 9 left. Today I called in a lone hot mature bird all by himself
</p>

<p>
	Yesterday was 4.5 beard and 1/8 “ spurs
</p>

<p>
	Today 8” beard and 3/4 “ spurs.
</p>

<p>
	I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy my hunting and harvest 2 nice toms, and have a great time in the woods
