They're smart, they're organized, and they're effective. Don't lightly dismiss the anti-hunters. And don't for one minute disregard what it is that they really want: Everyone rides a unicorn in their world.2 points

I believe the activists don't believe in killing animals for food . They would rather buy it in the store where the meat is made !2 points

I think the is being blown way out of proportion. The same people calling for his head are the same people that stand by quietly when innocent people are killed here every day. They have more compassion for an animal that 4000 miles away than they do for their neighbor that's 4 feet away.2 points

There it is...how to stop all this AR state wide BS...get the word out that AR's which are a precursor to trophy hunting are being pushed heavily in NYS by the Demoratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his Democratic flunkies...political fall out...you guys have face book and Twitter accounts. Now's your chance...wink wink2 points

The deer were on their feet this morning... I had this 4 year old that I call "Wannabe" stop by just prior to sun up. His tines are still bulby on the tips and it appears that he is trying to add small G4's... A short time later the rest of the boys showed up. I've been hoping to get pics of several of these bucks since first spotting them out in this field a month ago...1 point

Seeing a lot of toads...and I don't mean in the local bars Pygmy I went out to feed the boys last night and it was like walking onto the set of a Stephen King movie...Toads toads of all sizes covering the ground hopping this way and that...then while checking the plots hundreds and hundreds of tiny baby toads every where...in the woods too1 point

So we're going to GIVE money (Federal Pell Grants) to inmates to go to college. After reading this brief I gave the paper back to the dog and ordered him to eat it immediately lest I burn it and the house down. I figure while serving time for arson, manslaughter and cruelty charges I'll get another degree. A bit facetious, but seriously, who comes up with this stuff?1 point

This was the last month on the trail cameras. There are many fawn picts which is great. Some nice bucks and check out that real funky rack!!! I want a crack at him.1 point
-
Nice! That last buck you posted the rear view of looks an aweful lot like the first buck in the first set of pics. Those brows high on the beams look very similar. I might think they are the same buck, but maybe not. That "sidewinder" buck is pretty sweet too! I love those goofy racks like that even on a 1.5 year old!1 point

He will be much bigger in most cases. July puts on more inches than any other month.1 point

The anti hunter's goal is to ban all hunting. They don't support any type of hunting. Sure, they can find these types of videos to use against hunters now, but they wouldn't stop their attacks if all of the situations on the video didn't exist. They will always look to distort and propagandize all hunting, no matter what activities exist. The general public may support what they see as fair and ethical hunting today, but given time, the anti's will find a way to make that look uncivilized as well. It's not just hunting that's under attack today either. There is a wide and perverse attitude across America today, regarding all aspects of our culture, where groups of sanctimonious elites try to dictate what is no longer acceptable in our society. It's fascism and dictatorial tyranny. Sadly, the American desire for freedom is being transformed by it as well. That's what political correctness is all about. It's tyranny with manners. Hunters just happen to be an easy target and good for practice at achieving dictatorial goals.1 point

I don't think any 139 or 140 gr bullet in a 7mm-08 won't work well on deer. I have not seen, or heard of one that wouldn't.1 point

FWIW, the most accurate factory ammo I ever used in the 7mm-08 I had was Federal Premium W/140gr Nosler BT. Likewise, the 140gr Nosler BT was markedly more accurate than the 139gr Hornady SST in my7mm-08 handloads.1 point

I like the "experts' that claim the 7mm "ought 8" is more powerful than an "ought 6" & is therefore a magnum. One guy that was spewing this wisdom claimed his brother made a 3000 yard kill with the 7mm ought 8.1 point

So you are 6' and 245 pounds , What is your draw length ? , Is that an arrow you use to hunt with ?. Not trying to be a wise guy but that Arrow seems to be Quite Long in the picture.1 point

Bullets are designed to ideal velocities on specific types of game. Depth of penetration and overall thickness of tissue in area. A bullet suited for whitetails in a 7mm rem mag won't expand well in a 7mm-08. When finding a good load or commercial ammo, keep this in mind. Even more so for ammunition of not so popular sizes, like 7mm versus 270 or .308". Sometimes they like to use the same bullet for regular and magnum calibers. Lower priced ammo usually ends up having the magnum cartridge having ammo that over expands or breaks up. I know 2 people who use that hornady ammo and do well with it. Bullet construction vary a ton. A cup of copper-ish metal with lead poured into the middle, (cup and cone). Bonded lead to a copper jacket. What type of "copper-ish" metal is used in construction, Also, the dimensionality of the bullet. Is the copper hollowed out section just a simple hole, or does it having something like rifling on the inside which makes it expand to a leaf pattern. Some use no lead at all, other have a hollow point with a plastic tip. Some are a thick shell of the copper-ish metal, like a casting. Some might be a thin shell. While others are a electroplating of copper on the lead slug. Powerbelts and some other muzzleloader bullets do this often. The alloy of the inner material matters too. How pure the lead is. How well it expands and how well it adheres to the jacket material is effected by stuff added to the lead. This can matter a little bit, or a lot. People who use handgun bullets in rifles know this well. Recovered bullets or just measuring the exit wound is a good gauge of effectiveness. If the bullet hits a rib or not can make a difference in the results too, so keep that in mind.1 point

Yeah, he was on a roll tonight. We take the air rifles no mater what. We like to plink cans with air rifles. So figured why not shoot a few frogs. Yeah, I know, seems childish to hunt frogs with an air rifle. But, I am a 'buckeroo'!1 point

I do not know what has these coyotes going ...perhaps the moon or the deer coming in close to the dogs for protection but they again woke me in the middle of the night.Barking and howling and whining...they then got the boys growling and barking. They are either packed up or there were a lot of pups born this spring. they were right out behind the house...I wonder if I'll bother even hunting out there this fall. I realized this morning I have not been seeing any rabbits or squirrel this year...You would know for I regular mentioned them last year.1 point

Hard to even think 1 grain would even amount to an argument....If you like the way the gun shoots with what you have why bother even talking about it......Go with the ammo you and the gun like.1 point

Hey everyone. Wanted to say thanks for the kind comments on our hunting pictures. Seems like no matter where or what u do there's always critics and negative people that have to give there 2 cents , when they don't need to say anything at all. And to answer ur questions, we have a very small client base. We only bought the place 5 years ago. And we are trying to turn it into a true trophy camp. So people aren't going with the hopes of killing a giant bear then shooting a 5 foot bear like 85% of places u can get a guided hunt. We don't care about money so the camp isn't for us to just kill any bear , we take 5-6 guys a year max, and every guy is shooting a 6.5-7 foot bear and they know they actually are getting a true trophy. Our average skull size in last 3 years is now at 20.5 inches. We shot a 19.5" 6' 10, a 7' 5" , 22.5, and a 7' 2" 21.5" last year. We only has 5 guys and 2 guys wounded bears. This year we only had 1 of my buddies come up as we had a bunch of upgrades to do and there were a lot of fires in the area. We still baited but only ended up shooting 1 bear, my buddy is after a huge chocolate and didn't end up seeing him till 3 days after season . So he is coming back next year. We have a lot of coloured bears almost 1 at every bait. and as for the guy in pictures it's myself with some of the hunters bears and 2 bears are my own. And no I'm not tiny, 6' 245 lbs. I tried weighing my big 7' 5" bear and he broke the scale, it only went to 550 lbs and when I put him on he busted the ancor and scale . So no idea but there huge . Over 550lbs. I'd say average is like 350-400. all I want is my clients getting a true trophy there happy with not questioning after around the camp fire. Our hunt prices are on our site and any other info if anyone's interested. Thanks black bay outfitters1 point

Rob, I used to shoot a lot of frogs with an air rifle. Like skillet said, head shots are best. They're a lot of fun to hunt, and like you said, TASTY! Good Luck Rob, and have fun.1 point

I have been butchering my own deer for quite a few years . After skinning and quartering , it still needs more cleaning before grinding , cutting and packaging . It has always been a problem keeping the meat cold and had to be done by moving all the stuff in the kitchen fridge . I was going to but a new fridge for the garage but the guy at the store said if the garage got around 50 - 55 degrees the new fridge would shut off and not turn back on due to the newer electronic technology . Anyway I bought a 10 cu ft fridge for $130 and it is in great condition . Now all I need is for Deer Season to get here .1 point

I'll go two-an-a-quarta, do I hear a twofiddy? No offense buddy, but count your blessings. I can't even draw a bow any more, so it's going to be camera season until gun rolls around. Pics are cool, but I depend on the meat too. I never thought that 56 yo would be my cutoff. Roll with what ya' got an' make the most of it.1 point

And so, my fellow animal serial killers, there you have it. The rhetoric of the animal rights people. The images and words of these people have got to have impacts on those not involved in hunting. They have to be gathering supporters, and more money to wage these kinds of campaigns. Given that we hunters are a documented shrinking minority in society, can there really be any doubt that these people are a formidable force to be reckoned with? We tend to paint them as wackos, extremists, and people that no one ever takes seriously. Somehow those images comfort us and make us feel that no one really takes them seriously. Those rationalizations make us feel that it is unnecessary to join and support any pro-hunting organizations. We find it difficult to imagine a society that would outlaw or force impractical limits on our sport hunting. Well, right or wrong, I can imagine it. These people are organized, single-minded, and dedicated. They do not engage in in-fighting and bickering. Once they have been convinced by videos such as this, they become part of a force that makes our paltry, half-hearted defenses and campaigns pretty much a joke. These people are politically connected and know exactly how to become a huge thorn in our side. I take them very seriously. Yes, I do consider them whackos, extremist and a bit deluded. But you will never find me calling them harmless and no threat to hunting.1 point

what????? it's only two weeks regardless of when the start date is, is it not? I think archery runs a week later this year, which in effect bumps the crossbow to a later start date..........you didn't lose anything.1 point

Start with the basics: Learn to use a compass to find your way, learn to start a fire under any circumstance, and always wear good foot gear. Then spend as much time in the woods as you can year round, and each outing practice basic woodsman ship. The hunting part follows.1 point

Study topographical maps for the area. Look for saddles and ridges, as well as any low lying areas like swamps. A topo map will save you a lot of leg work and narrow down the areas that need to be studied more closely.1 point
