The one buck rule makes sense. That's why we don't have it in NY.

To me that is GOOD news. I'm getting tired of people only worrying about what happens in their own back yard or issues that only affect them personally. It is time that we put an end to this "divide and conquer" strategy that the DEC has initiated. We don't seem to understand that we are all hunters that should be concerned about any faction of the hunting community that is being screwed over by the DEC, whether you happen to be currently involved or not. I for one appreciate the concern of those that are not involved ...... yet. It shows that the hunting community still has some semblance of mutual concern and still has the ability to become somewhat unified. Also, anyone who believes that something about the deer population in some areas has to be done and then allows the DEC to enter a stupidly conceived plan in an attempt to handle that serious problem should be commenting on how the DEC is bungling their responsibility of properly responding to what they themselves call a critical problem. And this idea that it should not be discussed or kept as an open issue really irritates the hell out of me. If it is so painful to access this thread and read about the DEC screw-up and opinions on it, I can only suggest that you simply don't.

actually seems most of us do hunt those areas. It's like saying the safe act is a done deal. Just take it. Let the government just get away with stuff because it's easy is not the correct route.

ahh, but that's where the Bible comes into play........I can say that JC guided my arrow and it was out of my control once I released the string.

It wouldnt make much of a difference in buck numbers, but it would tend to make more guys choosy on what buck they do shoot. Not everyone, but Id venture to guess that most would not shoot the first buck they saw and then wait for a larger buck, they would hold out for that bigger one to begin with. That would end up with the younger bucks having more of a chance to grow another year, so now you dont need ARs. More guys would be willing to shoot does for meat, so it would help with those issues as well.

Well wouldn't you know it someone lost my Nikon prostaff 7 rangefinder a couple weeks ago. I won't mention any names who did it (youngest daughter) Saturday I had to drop my oldest daughter off to college in Portland Maine so I decided after looking everywhere for my rangefinder for two weeks without success I would stop in Cabelas & get a new one. It was killing me to spend $300 for a replacement on the new 7I but I decided I loved mine so I was prepared to do it. Well they just happened to have the Nikon Aculan on sale from $189 down to $149 As it did not have all the features of my other one I thought it would be good enough for a replacement at this time. I bought it & tested it out & found it does not have a lot of features that my Prostaff 7 had but I will say for the price it is a great rangefinder & was happy with it. Here is the good part less then 24 hours after buying the Aculand I am outside shooting my bow & getting familiar with my new rangefinder & my wife comes out & asks me if I know what this thing is she has in her hand that she found in her reusable grocery bag. Yup it is my Prostaff 7 rangefinder. After setting up a bow course for my daughter a couple weeks ago my wife had asked my daughter to help her bring in the groceries & she had set the rangefinder in one of the empty bags. I am thinking she did it on purpose so she can now have her own rangefinder. It worked but what she doesn't realize is it will be her birthday present

No, I'll just hunt in an adjacent WMU for the first two weeks. Save my best stand sets for when I can take a buck. I know many that will be doing the same, which WILL have the opposite result the DEC is looking for. (or what they publicly say they are looking for)

Does anyone do this with a relative ? I was told at a gun shop that I could fill out a form to have my son , who has a pistol permit , as a dual owner . The advantage of this is ..... if something happens to me , the dual owner would automatically become the sole owner and the government wouldn't get the pistols .

Every old military rifle has a story to tell They are a rich part of our history every bit as much as any state blue and gold sign along our highway s. That say George Washington was hear. They need to be saved. Some brave Serviceman carryed it into battle.

Don't like the one buck rule. Don't think a lot shoot two bucks so impact would be minimal. Although I do think it would make people more selective in the buck they shoot. Kind of a forced voluntary antler restriction. Would prefer to go to a system where the second buck would fall under some kind of antler restrictions.

If it was me, I'd have told her I'm going to conduct an interview with her next. Then I'd whip that big microphone out of my pocket and ask some tough questions... #1 question would be- "who's your daddy",lol

I think that would be great. Shoot one buck and that's it, just let the hunter choose the buck. Everybody wins.

I checked mine this afternoon and most of the pictures on it were of bucks. These three are possibly some of the biggest bucks I've ever had on camera. One evening I was hunting woodchucks and they came out together in the hay field, I just always assumed the bigger deer were in someone else's woods. It's nice to know they are walking around mine. I'm in 9K/town of Napoli.

Had to run to my rental in Corning, tenant moved out. Former tenant left the place spotless!! Person coming in to see it falls in love with the place and gives me cash for first month and security deposit. (that doesn't suck) Headed to my brother in laws for dinner and his wife calls out the bucks are out in the field. We sit on his porch and glass 7 deer three bucks 4 doe. 1 buck was a 140+ deer. Beautiful 10 point that had it all... along with a big body. They all were eating apples.. It was a good weekend!!

DEC certainly did not make these changes to make crossbow hunters feel better, or punish the vertical bow crowd for being stubborn. (I hunt with both, so I'm not playing favorites here). Please don't make it seem like you are in some position to "negotiate" with the vertical crowd. That attitude will definitely not make them warm up to the full inclusion idea, and I'm pretty sure us crossbow supporters wouldn't choose you as our PR representative. First of all, this isn't about crossbow hunter vs vertical bowhunter, this is about DEC really overstepping their bounds. We as hunters should all be on the same team. Perverting the new rules into something tailored to suit you, at the expense of others is disgusting, and really gives a lot of insight into your regard (or lack thereof) for your fellow sportsman. I'm not being anti Christian here, I'm being anti your attitude. You say God puts the venison where he wants it, and guides the arrows / bullets of deserving followers, to strike down divinely distributed game animals. According to you, practice and proficiency with your weapons are of secondary importance. Then, you gloat about your 1 (one) lucky kill, and point to it as confirmation that you're in the Lord's good graces. What happens next time when you gut shoot that deer? You'll blame it on how you committed some sin on the way to the treestand that morning? In reality, I think you have displayed a lack of respect for God's creation by taking such an entitled, careless, & disrepectful attitude. Surely He would want you to practice and become efficient enough to honor his creation by killing it swiftly. I think he would expect you have enough respect to put in some effort, and be able to show that you honor the animals (and in turn, him) by becoming proficient in using your weapons. Seems like you're praying "God, I know I haven't practiced enough, or at this range, but I'm going to take a poke here, hook me up would Ya?" Sounds pretty arrogant to me. Then you have the nerve to come on this site, and tell others they are messing with the fire of hell, wow. "Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself". Way to defend your irresponsible, disrespectful actions by hiding behind the Bible. Do us all a favor. Put in the practice to become proficient, and stop trying to be the mouthpiece of Christians and crossbow hunters. As one of each, I find it highly offensive. Spent the last couple of days at my daughter's bow hunters safety course. She scored a 98 on the test. Best grade in the class of 55 people. Shes very happy about that, and Im pretty proud. Her gun course is in 2 or 3 weeks.

Anyone who truly is interested in see the deer population reduced should be absolutely livid that the attempt to do so is being squandered on the most ineffective season available with no similar acts happening during the gun season. It is hard to take this as a serious population reduction activity when it is relying only on bowhunters and muzzleloader hunters for handling the task.

Ohio isn't perfect, but their system is light years ahead of ours. *Queue the people who say NY isn't Ohio* You are right - we have a crappy system with crappy people with crappy rules with crappy decisions and hunters who can rarely make things happen (management/regs-wise). NY could be much better run and the results would be much better hunting and management of the resource.

My list is about 3 years long. I guess that comes with buying a forclosure. I'll keep going until the snow flies. I might hunt in the mornings before work and saw firewood on Saturdays (helps to keep the trespassers out) Here is the highlight from this summer

PITA and people like Mr.Irving and the anti hunting establishment, will use religion or any other crutch they can to farther their misguided views. That are not based on scientifically or biologically proven facts that regulated hunting actually improves the sustainability of species of animals that are hunted. And even improves the habitat of non hunted species as well. For the benefit of all wild things. Make no mistake, that people like Mr. Irving are very organized and a threat to hunting, and will use any and all propaganda to farther their agenda. That is why now, more than ever, hunter's must not quibble amongst ourselves. We need to stand strong together for the sake of huntings future generations.

It is certainly NOT a golden shiner, or a creek chub, which are two separate species.. It looks to me like a fallfish, which is very common especially in rivers and streams...Locally, they are called white chubs or river chubs, and they often grow to 12" or 14" or even larger, although the average size is less than 10".
