My sister bought me this ground blind at a garage sale a few weeks ago for $10. All the fiberglass rods to the hubs inside were shattered so it wouldn't stand on its own. 50' of rope and some make shift tent stakes got this baby hurricane proof in about 4 hours, lol It now has an interior sapling frame. Kind of a PITA to get it set up, but the effort was worth it for that price! Set on the edge of an old orchard for those wet icy days I wont climb into a stand. It's surprisingly roomy compared to my little dome pop up blind I used for turkey in the spring7 points

Perhaps we could.eliminate the need for big antlers if we just give everyone a participation trophy!4 points

If you handle the situation yourself, It could be considered land management, I suppose.4 points

IMO- woods and thickets are two entirely different things even when in full leaf. Thickness to me is within 1-8 ft of ground level and the forest canopy is everything above that. If I had to guess I'd say 90% of the antlers I find shed hunting come from "thickets" and not "thick forest". That's gotta tell you something right there. Post season bucks are still using those thickets for cover, food, and shelter, the same way they used them to survive the hunting season. Just because you hike in 2 miles to get to your remote hunting hidey hole don't mean jack if they're snuggling up in an overgrown blackberry thicket 100 yds out your back door on a daily basis. Learn to recognize the overlooked areas like that and you wont waste so much time in unproductive open timber areas when all the leaves drop.4 points

I came into this thread thinking it was about something different. I was going to say I've dated my fair share of women, and I believe yes. Although you hit a point of diminishing returns fairly quickly. Nevermind. Carry on.4 points

I agree with the above posts. You had no use for this forum or any other until you had an axe to grind ...and now all of a sudden your out to "help" all of us poor unsuspecting members. Please save it and the one sided sob story and do us a favor and go back where you came from.3 points

Geezz, is he even from NYS? He's just out to defame the company and is that fair? Should we get their side? Tons of information is missing here. Joining a bunch of sites just to crap on the outfitters name is pretty lame in my book.3 points

I would assume that buck is bedding in the swamp? Should be somewhat "easy" (relatively speaking) to get on him if he's doing any wind-based bedding or bedding in relation to food sources. He's not going to use a whole heck of a lot of paths in and out of the swamp based on whatever island(s) he beds on.2 points

85 yards should cover you. If a deer walks out at 100, just hold another foot and a half high. I'm personally tuned and sighted in for 150. But I only shoot 100 in an actual hunting situation. You never know if there is a twig 140 yards out that you might not see.2 points

They will be back. You need a security system, possibly something with a cellular connection so that it can contact you when it goes off so that you can catch them in the act.2 points

Call law enforcement...they may recover some of your property so it's important you report everything taken.2 points

Well, I hope no one is shocked to find out that our laws have become so complex that we all likely break several everyday without even realizing it. That is one of the reasons for my opposition to a lot of this constant nonsense about filling the law books even further every time somebody gets a brain-fart and thinks they have the next round of laws that will save the deer herd. Fact is that I would love to see the environmental conservation laws weeded out a bunch so people would have at least a slight chance of actually reading and understanding the laws that govern hunting, fishing, and trapping ad in fact every facet of our lives. Yup, your darned right there will be a bunch of people illegally bow hunting bucks in those few select areas. It may not be fully justified that hunters would be unaware of it, but realistically, we know that it will slip by a bunch of people. Yes, "Ignorance of the law is no excuse", but anyone who thinks that they have the entire contents of the volumes of laws committed to memory is a bit deluded. And if this "doe only" fiasco slips by a bunch of hunters, I can certainly see how that could happen and I fully expect that will happen.2 points

This is why I'd never invite someone to hunt the property I have access to. I don't care how good you think you are, or how good I tell you I am....sometimes the deer just aren't cooperating especially in such a narrow timeframe as a 3 day period. Some seasons it takes me weeks and months to have everything come together just right with a deer that I'm happy to kill. For someone to feel cheated even through a free offering would be insulting even though I did everything I could to get them a kill. Sucks you had to pay for it only to come home empty handed, but them's the breaks in deer huntin' when you start shelling out cash to hunt horns. Maybe spend more time trying to lock up a piece of property for yourself, and spend less cash expecting someone to make your dreams come true. Sorry- I'm sure that's NOT what you wanted to hear, but that's my take on this.2 points

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hunter-s-Specialties-Field-Dressing-Gloves-Combo-Pack/15111185 I use these. Dick's Sporting Goods or Wally World. Probably at more stores too. I want to get the gutting over a.s.a.p so I like these so I can cut and pull everything out faster. I put the used gloves inside out in the deer and dispose of later. Just make sure the short gloves are over the long gloves when you use them.About a dollar a pair.2 points

It made me check out their web page...I saw lots of nice pics but no review section...it states it has semi guided turkey and predator...but no mention of guided deer hunts..but listed prices for all...the trail cam pics looked great..suppose they could have been picked off the web but I won't speculate. As far as deleting or his first post...So what his first post was a vent about an out of state guide...he did everyone a service and them..... by getting ppl to at least take a look and decide for them selves...Geezz!2 points

Buy a shiny new generator and put it right out in the open. Chain that sucker with the biggest chain u can but make sure they cannot see that from the road. Then put a couple cams on it. U should find them checking on it. Then call police have them go to there house get your ****back1 point

The same way he knows how to head toward the doe that is leaving a scent trail. They're not always right nor wrong, but creating a traffic pattern probably isn't a bad thing. Tough part is disproving scent effectiveness is equally as hard as trying to prove it works in that small % of time. It all comes down to observations and interpretations in real-world settings. I've definitely seen bucks bird dog scent trails I've laid down before, eyes all rolled back in their head and drooling. Fun to watch. Is it a major part of my tool bag? Heck no. But after sitting all-days or grinding out 14 days in the woods in a row, sometimes breaking up the monotony is welcomed. I probably killed my buck last year that way, because I had already resigned myself to the potential of not shooting one after a pretty bad screw-up on my part earlier that week. What the heck, I'll break out the decoy and scents, etc.1 point

I just got back from a camping trip near Indian Lake. I was at the top of Chimney Mountain and looking over everything you could see the fall colors. It was great. Not to mention the cooler temps will have the deer stired right up.1 point

Count yourself lucky. If you go back there for a second trip you will be down two rounds in a game of Russian Roulette.1 point

short version from wikipedia: A paper road is a road laid out in a development or subdivision plan. Paper roads may exist only on paper, never having been developed, but they have a legal existence, whether on private or public land.1 point

I still don't think it's as easy as you think. I have private land where a blind man could kill a doe any day. Public land is different. I can speak to hunting it for the first time last year. It's a lot of work and not easy. So the avearge joe, who is most of the tag buyers whether you believe it or not, does not shoot a big buck every year and is happy as pie with his scrub 6. more power to him.1 point

never wore them, never will. i like coming out of the woods at lunch and giving my buddies who didnt see any deer a fistbump with blood on my knuckles lol1 point

I tend to go in for an all day hunt so I carry a lot: -first aid kit -enough water for the day and then some -low odor food: nuts, an apple, raisins -extra warm cloths for the sit -binos -flashlight w extra batteries -knife -rope -license w pen, -hand warmers -camera -calls -paper towels w hand wipes I use a lot of ziplock bags to keep things dry, organized and to cut down on odor.1 point

There is a lot of hunting pressure around the properties I hunt. The farm I hunt, borders state land. So for me, the closer I am to the thick stuff, the more deer I see. You can't just bumble and bash your way in. You must move slowly and pick your way in carefully, ALWAYS, with the wind to your advantage. I don't go in the middle of the thick stuff, but as close to the edge as I can get away with. This works well especially after the first few days of firearms season. We have some beautiful open hardwoods and field edges. But you will sit a long time before you see a deer during daylight hours in those places. And chances of seeing a mature deer are almost nill, unless you get close to where they are. In the thick stuff.1 point

Perhaps Mr Irving forgot this passage from the Bible. Isaac said, "Behold now, I am old and I do not know the day of my death. 3"Now then, please take your gear, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me; 4and prepare a savory dish for me such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, so that my soul may bless you before I die."…1 point
