  1. This guy popped out of a stand of pines and was heading in the wrong direction. At 66yds I decided to grunt which turned him around. He came back to about 40 but had no shot. Started to leave again so I grunted and snort wheezed. Why not. And low and behold he came back and two my left for a 32yd shot. We have several cam shots of him. I actually told phade I would be happy to shoot him. Big bodied and named him tank. Not the biggest of those we have on cam but I couldn't be happier. First time I truly called a buck in.

  7. 1st buck with a bow 3m. Saw 3 does early but too far out. About an hour later, there were 2 - 4 pointers making a ton of noise behind me. I used a grunt call and both came towards my stand. I used a new scent I saw on these forums and hung them in good shooting lanes. One of the 4 pointers took the lead and headed right toward the scent . 15 yd shot, and was down in 20. Love it when a plan comes together.

  10. My first with a bow, I was told if I want to help out I need to start shooting doe. (To please the land owners.) So after many years of passing them, now they are on my radar. After passing 3 early that where pushed by a 4pt I spotted 2 button bucks but could not see the doe. She popped out at what I though was 20 yards but after reviewing the video she was probably closer to 18 yards. Arrow broke off and spun around the cavity, broad head was stuck in the entry wound, found that out the hard way and found the rage was still sharp! You can hear her crash right after the shot. She was 40 yards from the hit. This is the video. Shot is after the 1 min mark. Buddy made me wait until dark to find her, his property so I comply. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxfsMDedRok

  14. Well, I guess the proof is in the pudding. The fact that none of our resident libs have stepped up to the plate to attempt to refute the facts and figures of this video clip kind of shows that in the face of facts their emotional arguments simply cannot stand. They are staying away from this one like the plague ....... lol.

  15. I wonder how many times the same comment has to be repeated over and over before the point has been made that shooting-hour restrictions should be obeyed. We're into 4 pages of telling this guy what a scumbag he is for shooting after hours. Is that enough, or should we do an additional 4 pages. What does it take to make him leave and never post here again .... I assume that is the goal of all this piling on. Hey, maybe if we make him feel bad enough he will quit hunting altogether. Maybe then we can all feel great about our little contribution to law and order.

  16. One of my best hunting buddies hunted that way for many years across Lake Erie from Buffalo at Point Abino Canada. He called it "sneak shooting". When he first arrived, usually AFTER all the early morning duck hunters had been on the water for a few hours, he'd row out into the bay and set his spread of dekes. Then he'd row back to shore, haul the boat up on the beach and start drinking his coffee right out in the open. Soon a flock of bluebills would light in and land in the spread. Tom would chug the rest of his 3x cream & sugar coffee, cork up the Thermos and push the boat back into the swells. The sneak boat (yea, he made it from scratch) would then be slowly paddle out into the swells towards the unsuspecting ducks as he was hunkered down behind the hinged screen. When he would get within range of the birds he'd give one more hard shove on the paddle and then set the it down in the belly of the boat. Then, slowly he would grab the old humpback Browning light 12. As the boat was now among the birds he'd push the muzzle of the gun into the screen, folding it down and come up on the birds. The handloaded Peters Blue Magic hulls would fly! Back in the early days lead shot and 8 bird limits were the big draw to the Canadian hunting. That, good people & nostalgia were what made Tom happy. Tom carved all his own decoys in the day and had a 50 bird spread that today would be valuable to collectors but they aren't for sale. He may have given a couple away to very close friends but I just don't recall and would never ask. Often times he'd invite a friend along, they'd take turns sneaking in and limits were very common. Soon the Canadian's imposed steel shot and limits were lowered and Tom spent more time at his farm in Arcade, NY. Sadly, he was done with this type of hunting when we first met in early 1986. Then tradition archery grabbed him and hasn't let go!! Making sneak boats, carving decoys, loading metallic and shot shells, tying flies, building bamboo fly rods, recurve bows, long bows and HUNDREDS of the finest cedar shafts are just some of the things he has perfected as a hobby while earning a living as an artist. His full name is Thomas Aquinas Daly. Sorry for all the unrelated stuff but I'm proud to call him a friend........

  17. 4 pt 0830 am, almost gave up early this morning before I saw him. 25 yards broadside and rage hypodermic 125 HAMMERED him. Pass through blades still sharp and straight. Shot was a little back he trotted 20 yards, did the tail flicker for 30 seconds and fell over.id guess 120-130 dressed. My buddy and I have had many close calls with him but let him walk because we didn't feel the shot was right. Glad we did.

  18. So the wind was perfect for the "Sure Thing" stand. Up and in position, bow hauled up, arrow knocked, put shooting release on hand, hear a couple footfalls to the west, spot doe. No way........I JUST got in the stand 60 seconds earlier.........................OK, I'll participate. She doesn't follow the script exactly though, she heads to the base of the stand. A couple whiffs of me and she takes two quick jumps towards where she came from. I had the bow drawn before she even stopped, figuring she'd stop and take a peek at the blob in the branches........FFFffttt..,. the arrow is gone and right in the boiler room. She sprints away and I hear her crash about 60 yards from me. I can't see her but I'm confident she is down...................................I decide to leave her be until 9:30 or so, planning on the arrival of a buck at some point. Well, around 8;15 I see a red fox sneaking up on the approx. spot she went down. He figured he had a freebie coming! He must have gnawed away on her for about 20 minutes when all of a sudden I see him/her sneaking towards me with something in it's mouth. WTH man, it's the tail from my doe!! Honest injun...... I got a little Iphone video to substantiate the theft. Here is the doe................

  21. I see a little one with you in your profile pic. Wear your harness so they don't have to spoon feed you if you were to fall IMO It's not worth the risk "feeling safe " or not. Pretty sure all climbers 2 pieces are tethered together. You stand up to shoot behind you, awkward position, go to strap boots in to descend , drop something and lunge for it, lots of crap can happen unexpectantly.

  28. The OP made a mistake and it don't look like he has been back on this thread anyhow. All of us have made mistakes, but most don't like to admit that publicly. Some sure do love pointing out those made by others, as this 4 + pages of lecturing clearly shows. Fortunately, someone paid for all of our mistakes on the Cross a long time ago. The best thing any hunter can do is receive that gift with open arms. He who gave it determines how every deer's life ends. It might surprise you how much truer those arrows fly when you get things straightened out with The Man upstairs. Speaking of which, I cant wait to get out there next week. I would suggest to the OP that he get himself a Cross-bow and try again next week when that opens up. Congrats on that buck up above^ How's this for "Lethal":

  35. Def has to make an effort to locate the deer. Probably not much of an eater at this point. He can get another tag if the meat is bad. Not faulting his shot placement, happens to most people at one time. Lets flip the tables, hypothetically, he launchs the arrow 15 minutes after sunset, make a good shot, an recovers the deer. Next time will he climb down when he is suppose to or wait that extra 15, 20, 30 min to get a deer? My guess he will stay, after all he got away with it one time. Why not the next season, next season, etc. What if it was the 150 inch monster you've been hunting for 2 yrs and your neighbor waits that extra 20 mins past legal shooting to kill him. You gonna congratulate them when you've been following the law to get him? Sorry about the rant. JMO

  40. Known as a punt gun and used during the era of market gunning for waterfowl, this gun could shoot 1 pound of shot with 1 pull of the trigger. Many ducks could be bagged with one shot if you could "get your ducks in a row". BTW, it was secured to the boat itself and not fired from the shoulder. The recoil would push the entire boat backwards in the water for many yards after the shot.

  45. Have tried this before and no one ever wants to put up the time and money but always wants to hunt over the best food plots and what not. I spend a ton of money and time on my land and I have found it easier to just have it to myself and my brother who hunts a few times a year. My neighbor on the other side who is a distant relative and I used to "share our lands" but he shot multiple "extra" deer and what not and instead of it becoming a fight we agreed to stay on our own sides with a "tracking agreement." It has worked very well for us. I guess I am kind of selfish but I like hunting by myself and not having to worry about others.
