Dec.3..This mornings hunt I had plans to hunt doe and I knew I had to beat them to the blind area.. Didn't work out so well for by 5:30 everyone was either there or on the way, when I pushed them walking down the road...I was snorted at just as I reached the blind so the last steps I used the grunt tube then took a stick and beat a bush at the bottom of the ladder before climbing...I glassed a doe in the laneway feeding my way at about 7am ...I watched her as she headed my way very slowly.....Oh man 22 mins please please please..nope 7:10 she moves into the slashings behind my blind and heads up hill... Now you have to understand doe are harder to hunt than buck here...always have been and I was mad.Next thing I know I see what I thought was the neighbors dog, I about flipped until I glassed it and it was a nice sized yote...Hhhmmm snorted at, pushed deer, doe left, and not seeing many turkeys..This hunt was ruined.... I draw down on him about 80 yrds Bang!.miss and he's now running at me for he has the fence on one side and brush piles on the slashing side...bang! I see the slug hit just past him WTH! am I blind ! He stopped at the last shot and I shoot one more time and think I clipped his foot he was close and I was trying not to shoot over him.....Off he goes running funny into the neighbors swamp after rounding my fence.. Talk about feeling down 3 misses in a row! I'm sitting there beating my self up and now it's 7:25 and I see deer...Well those shots were like some sort of call because there are deer at the end of the lane way and filing out of the swamp across the fence...I glass and all 8 are fawns!...I just laughed and grabbed my apple to eat, when I look up.....Here comes the buck charging out of the swamp...I can't tell how long the tines are because he's close to my fence and it's now snowing pretty good...I grab my gun and get ready...he jumps the fence and before he barely touches the ground half way across the laneway,he lunges into the saplings and stops...I reposition in another window not even looking at him...The slashings are so thick and hes around 70 yrds out...I settled on a small brown patch on a trail I'd cleared this fall it was my only shot and then he broke.... the second he hit that trail I squeezed off the shot and he never kicked just went on a full stretched out run...I never even followed him the trees were so thick and I was sure I had missed yet again...about the time those thoughts raced through my mind I heard the crash!...glassed out the back blind window to see white belly...Mind you my Browning only holds 4 3" shells and I had forgotten (in my frustration) to reload...So I literally had just one shot....Now this one I could handle...unlike the bow buck......... he hung on the scale at 105...and has very little smell...so I'm sure will taste great!7 points

It's been awhile since I picked up anything heavier than a 30 pack.. Actually, about 10 years ago I picked up a fat girl down at the local watering hole, but we'll both deny it under oath...6 points

Here's the thing , when a person continually posts that they follow the law , they won't shoot one minute outside of legal hours because it's the law and they follow the laws. Then they post they drive an atv illegally on the road , they're going to open themselves up to criticism to the hypocrisy . That whole glass house thing. Me I freely admit I break laws daily, I'm in violation of the safe act , own illegal knives , tomorrow I'll speed on the way to work, I've gone 20 years or more without having a car inspected, a big buck under my stand 5 minutes before legal light is dead, and I wouldn't mind burning a fatty right now.5 points

I am a beer snob also..I only drink COLD... Unless I can't get cold, then I'll settle for COOL... Unless I can't get cool, then I'll settle for AMBIENT TEMP... Unless I can't get ambient temp, then I'll settle for PISS WARM... I draw the line at HOT, however...After all, I AM fussy about what beer I drink...5 points

http://buffalochronicle.com/2015/12/01/emboldened-by-silver-conviction-bharara-to-indict-cuomo-jan-2nd/ "United States Attorney Preet Bharara feels emboldened, sources say, following the conviction of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver — on all of seven corruption charges. Despite lacking a “smoking gun” to constitute an explicit quid pro quo, the jury handed Bharara a sweeping win. Such is the public’s appetite for corrupt politicians, observers say. Three sources are confirming that Bharara intends to indict Governor Andrew Cuomo on January 2nd — along with a half dozen associates and former staffers — on public corruption, racketeering, conspiracy, and honest services fraud." I don't even know what the 'Buffalo Chronicle' is, so it may be complete BS. I'd appreciate any info or insight on this. I'm passing it along because just the thought that it might be factual made my day. :-]4 points

First off one brow tine is broken so reality it's a nine, but in MY book it's a TEN. Work schedule has prevented me from hunting NYS so far this year, last year I passed on a 6 but I did get to shoot big coyote. Got this guy Sunday morning in Monmouth County, NJ on a horse farm my FIL owns. I passed on many 6's and 8's and even saw bigger 10's but this 10 presented me with a shot. The rack does have some character with a forked G2 and near the end of each main beam are Bot Fly holes which are pretty neat.3 points

Why does every conversation end in a legal or ethical standoff? I remember when people talked about hunting on this site.3 points

I like to grab the front legs with one hand and the back legs with the other and then use a spinning throwing motion like a hammer or shot put. Much more easily done if you kill small deer or "suit case" deer as one friend calls them. Watch out for antlers as you start the spin.3 points

This morning around 730, I had 3 deer come out of the thick stuff at a full sprint. 1 for sure was a doe, the others not sure. Thinking either a yote or possibly a buck pushed them to me, doubt it was a trespasser. Around 10 min. later this doe tried to sneak behind me...but I caught her movement. Decent young doe probably 1.5 yrs old. Forgot to add, seeing some new scrapes opened up.2 points

I just took some of my overtime $ and bought this muzzleloader. It's the exact one I've been wanting for awhile. I'm going from a Traditions Deerhunter (sidelock) to this, so I'm not sure what to expect, but I've heard good stuff about this gun. I have a lot of fun with my sidelock, but I wanted something to use all season, that could reach out farther than my smooth bore 20ga. I also bought it because they opened rifle in Ontario county where our camp is, & it was either buy a rifle or the ML. I can use the ML anywhere, so I think I got the best of both worlds. It came with a nice camo sling & I bought a camo Nikon coyote special 3 × 9 with stainless steel Weaver rings & base. I got it from Beikirch's in East Rochester. They mounted the scope & bore sighted it too. Those guys are great, I won't go anywhere else.2 points

I would assume most of the money ($27M) goes to current and retired staff. assume 400 current or retired employees that's an average of $67,000 each but I'm only guessing2 points

I have the guys at Agway drop it right into the bed of my truck when I buy it, then I slide it off the tailgate into the bed of my UTV once I get to the farm. I slice the bags open and use the dump bed to offload into the trough feeders I use.2 points

I just think its funny that guys on this forum constantly talk about how they are gonna pass this buck and that buck until they are in front of them. Don't get me wrong you can shoot whatever you want but at the end of the day I just feel like everyone talks like they are trophy hunters until they are given an opportunity. Don't take this post the wrong way I think it's great that you shot a buck. What I don't get is you posted a pic of a deer and specifically said you were gonna let him walk. How can you hunt without a scope or binoculars and expect to know exactly what you are shooting at? I don't know about the rest of you but it really hard to tell any thing more than the deer has horns at 75-100yds. Anyways everyone's a trophy hunter on this forum until opportunity presents itself on this forum No disrespect! Congrats on the buck!2 points

Congrats Grow!! I'm sitting in my highest stand yet. 35 thousand feet off the ground in a plane headed back to Soldotna. I don't think I can even see a deer from up here! Lol no problem, it will be no fewer than I saw from 15 feet. : )2 points

Pretty windy in Naples this morning. Out of the West. That, with the damp leaves, made for a silent walk in. Sitting in the spot where my Grandfather killed his last deer, 20 years ago.2 points

It sickens me to reply to your posts, but this one is real easy. If the government can restrict people on some list from buying guns, they will see to it that anyone they don't want to own one is put on the list. It's that simple. When the law allows people to contest being on the list, prior to being put on it, allowing Constitutional due process, then maybe it would legal. What the dumbass Democrats want is not legal. It's tyranny. Get it? And since you have asked, I'll tell you. The Democrats are the REAL danger to America!2 points

I don't want terrorists in this country to be able to arm themselves. Hell, I don't want terrorists in this country at all. You're missing the forest for the trees, though. The piece of legislation you mention is specifically intended to give the Federal government the power to decide who in this country will be allowed to own a gun. That's NOT the job of the Federal government, and in fact it absolutely runs contrary to the powers of that governing body. They're supposed to defend the Constitution, not nullify it. The people who write and propose this kind of legislation consider me a terrorist because I'm a white male gun owner with a constitutionally conservative mindset who refuses to go along with their 'grand plan'. They really need to rethink their definition of "terrorist", because I've never hurt anyone except in self-defense.1 point

BH 209 and Thor bullets. I can shoot a cloverleaf at 100 yards with 3 shots with my CVA Accura. It's extremely clean and consistent. Also - I am using 209 primers without issue. This was my setup for Colorado Mule Deer last year, and the cloverleaf was actually with a peep sight. On at 100, I was 7 inches low at 150, using 82 grains by weight of BH 209 = 110 grains by measure. I won't go back to a saboted bullet with this gun. My T/C likes sabots though. Haven't run through the proper load on that yet.1 point

DEC NY web site says "Approximately 1.2 million people purchase hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses each year, and sporting license sales generate approximately $42 million annually in revenue used to manage New York's fish and wildlife resources and their habitats, as well as to improve access to those resources." How ever they don't give a break down of where the money is going. How much does it actually cost to maintain a wilderness area? Probably not $42 million.....1 point

That is only part of the bill. In every bill there is always something the other side (left or right wing) want that is to try and sway those on the fence that could careless about the other stuff within the bill so it will get passed.1 point

Food plots are important but cover is more important, do yourself a favor and do a whole property evaluation before you start and find out what you really need to hold deer in daylight on your property1 point

Over the years I have purchased a number of surveys. In my experience the standard practice has been pins at the corners. If you want anything in addition, you have to pay for it. I almost always paid a bit more and had the surveyor place a 6 ft tall 'T' post (1) next to each corner pin and (2) every 300 or so feet along each property line. This was money well spent since it prevents the expensive corner pins from getting 'lost' after they are covered with grass/brush/leaves/etc. Surveyors typically do not produce GPS coordinates for the corners. Many surveyors have not even bought survey-grade GPS gear. It is rather spendy stuff. The best accuracy you can typically get with any kind of consumer-grade GPS gizmo is 15 feet. Keep in mind that a hand held GPS does not work by magic. You need to know some stuff in order to get the best accuracy. Finally, for anyone interested in using a cell phone GPS or dedicated GPS to locate existing survey stakes and approximate property lines, I have posted a number of tips at: Cell phone: http://www.propertylinemaps.com/p/pdf-cell-phone-find-property-lines.pdf GPS: http://www.propertylinemaps.com/p/pdf_tips_for_using_a_gps.pdf Joseph1 point
