I remember a few years ago and the threads made about loosing 30 round mags and the legal right to own a AR-15's , AK's and so on... I also remember all the people that laughed and talked about tin foil hats and how it would neverrrr happen and such. Sounds like the same poeple here now sitting on their thumb buying air driven arrow guns. When is enough ??6 points

I posted in the "what other hobbies" thread that I am starting to get into some hobby blacksmithing. I figured I would post up and the work progresses. A little history. I have always thought is was very interesting and I remember as a kid wanting to spend time at the demonstrations whenever the family went to any historical period museums where they have characters living like they did in the day. Well needing one more hobby like I need ANOTHER hole in my head I did it anyway...lol. I did quite a bit of research and reading, joined an online forum that is world wide and spent hours reading there. I decided i would like to go the route of using a coal forge and that I wanted to build it myself. I pick up a damaged anvil from a member here and to my surprise my wife got me another one that is in very very good shape. I picked up a post vise too. So then I was in possession of the 3 main tools of a smith. I have to make everything fairly portable because I will basically be doing it in my driveway and will need to put everything away in the garage after each use. And (and this is a very big AND.) I need to keep the garage open enough so my wife can park in there during the winter. So as of this date the forge is built and I have run two fire in it so far. I am focusing on tooling and developing my techniques for now, but I want to dive into some blade making down the road. I'll try to keep this as kind of a diary of the progress and welcome comments and critiques. This is the forge completed. it has a variable speed electric motor and will reach forge welding temps with ease. You can see a couple tools for tending the fire that I made on the first day. A poker, a rake and a few hooks to hang on the forge table. I don't have a picture yet but on the second day I made my first set of tongs to handle the materials better than a pair of vise grips. I also made a rack for the anvil stump to hold all the hammers within easy reach.5 points

ATA is running and see the first forays into 2016 cams. Muddy is now in the cam business, likely the result of Big Game's Eyecon cams sucking badly. Cams are without a doubt made on same assembly line as Browning. Cams are also pretty cheap. Moultrie has entered the cell market (again) with a separate modem unit that can work on any '15 or newer Moultrie cam. I am skeptical because Moultrie has consistently tried to make money on download/software/website access and their stuff hasn't worked great in the cell arena. Spartan has a Verizon cam that can now be added for $5 a mo to current plans - which is probably a big deal - and share in the cell plan's data. Covert has a lot of new stuff, but interesting to me is a new cell cam that sends 5s video. They have some new cases and better spec cams.4 points

Newest glitch beyond the no fly list. People onssa ssi and ssd will be scrutinized cloisely. Anyone with any mental health concerns are disqualified. A lot of veterans fit that label. Anyone who thinks this is the end of it and it is thin, much less supports it needs their heads examined.4 points

I hope many of us view ourselves as not just hunters or sportsman, but outdoorsman. I hope many of us appreciate and value the peace and beauty of the great outdoors. I believe we should be even more appreciative as our pheasant fields are turned into walmarts, and our golf courses built around our creeks. Anyhow, I don't understand why we leave behind the garbage that we do. I constantly pick up water and beer bottles near the public land I hunt left behind by fellow hunters. I also don't understand why a mostly conservative group tends to be the loudest voice against environmental regulations aimed at reducing pollution. Regardless of your opinion on global warming, anything we can do to preserve our earth should be welcomed. What we've already done with regards to polluted soil and water is fact. I know many of us remember not being allowed to eat the fish out of the Great Lakes. Please guys, as a group we need to do our part to keep are woods and our waters clean. Murder by firearms has been falling since 2006 according to the FBI consolidated stats. 2014 numbers are out and firearms murder is below 9,000 in that year I think. The Federal assault weapon ban expires in 2004 I believe and the antis were screaming that the streets would be running red with blood. The number don't fit their narrative.3 points

It doesn't upset me, it saddens me. It's sad to know there are so many citizens in this land who support removing rights from responsible law abiding Americans so the government can enlarge it's power and control over everyone. "Behind Over"??? Real class And your spelling hasn't improved either. But many citizens are sadly just as mindless, so take heart. I would like to see you actually address the points I make with counter facts, just once. But then again, I'd also like to marry a woman with big breasts who owns a liquor store, but I don't think I'm going to get that either.3 points

The trouble with that is, it's Obama deciding who should not have guns!!2 points
-
And how will any of his ideas prevent some gang banging, law ignoring criminal scum bag from getting an illegal gun or using the one he already has, to commit a crime? Of course, a pro big government, NRA hating, Obama crush on, anti gun person like you will probably not answer that.2 points

Some interesting stats for you. There are over 32000 deaths from vehicles annually in the US and about 33000 deaths annually caused from firearms in the US. Of those 33000 60% of them are suicides. Would those 19800 people commit suicide in another fashion? But think about this, In the US you can get a drivers license from the age of 14 to 17 depending on the state you live. In the US you can legally purchase a long gun at age 18 and a hand gun at age 21 of course all dependent on the Gov. I think it would be fair to say that gun deaths would be around 13200 if you discount suicides who feel the need to end there life, which are going to end it with or without the gun. 32000 vs 13200. I would agree with you on this, the Gov has discounted all deaths unrelated to a firearm for the sole purpose that it indeed Obama feels guns are a threat to his "government oppression and his wanton tyranny". If his concern lies directly with human life he would be much better off addressing suicides and vehicle related deaths and try to save 45200 people a year in the US than 13200. The US population is over 318 million excuse my math but if Im wrong but .0001% of the population is killed with a firearm annually. I dont mean to sound like these lost lives mean nothing because its quite the opposite of that, however as stats go and the problems we have in this country the agenda this so called President has is way off in left field. Not to even mention our Founding Fathers, The Constitution and all the men and women who have sacrificed while carrying a firearm to protect this country. He is the saddest form of any president to date and hope damn well Americans wake up and he is the last of his hate America stance that sits in the Oval Office. This isnt "MERICA" or "Murica" that I see being written and I hear being said daily people. This is AMERICA. The 10th amendment says Reinforces the principle of federalism by stating that the federal government possesses only those powers delegated to it by the states or the people through the Constitution. So why are we giving this government the power?2 points

Which is exactly why I am in the current market for a 300wby mag Mark V ultra lightweight. With the 300wby mag can take just about anything on the continent. From deer to Alaskan Grizzley You Can't Beat My Meat!2 points

300Wby Mag is my always go to. Will get the job done from 0 to 500 plus yards if the shooter is up to the task. Close shoulder shots will leave you with lots of trim meat and will see to it that you never track a deer again.2 points

More than enough, more recoil and muzzle blast too. But, more than capable of taking deer if you can shoot it accurately. Would I advise a new deer hunter to use one? No. Would I tell someone who uses one not to? No. It's a legal deer hunting implement. Your choice.2 points

Maybe I'll start a thread under General and do that. Be nice to get feedback and be able to adjust to what appeals to folks. Knife making is one of the end goals for me. Actual forging though. I don't want to just do material removal from purchased stock.2 points

The highest levels of gun violence in cities occur in specific high crime areas. The offenders often have criminal records and are repeat offenders of firearms laws. They obtain and possess their firearms illegally. They do not obey current firearms laws and they won't obey any new firearms laws. Or do you think they would for some reason???2 points

I didn't read this entire thread just the first few pages. What I'll say is that I hunt less than a mile from the village I live in. This year I had the cops called on me after the farmer begged me to hunt this one particular field. I was legal and safe and the cops thanked me for shooting the Deer there because they write an accident report a week right there. The only reason the lady next door new I shot was because it was a 12 ga (no rifle there). I don't bow hunt anymore and it wouldn't have been effective there anyway because I was laying down in the middle of a clover field. An air rifle may have avoided that. Plus there is no reason everyone in the village needs to know when I shoot. I also shoot subsonic out of my 22 when coon hunting as sometimes thats actually within the village limits. I have one of those spring powered 1200 fps pellet guns and it too works pretty good for shooting down coons. I would like to see air rifles opened up. I am all for any new technology that improves the hunting experience. Everyone should be free to hunt with what they want as long as its safe.2 points

Did you catch his comment about how implementing gun control isn't that difficult. If we made changes and got women the vote and ended slavery , this shouldn't be that hard. See any disconnect with the two topics he chose to contrast with? They were done through Constitutional amendment. The other item that burns my buns is the notion that the vast majority of the nation want this and it is Congress holding it up. I am not buying it. If they had the support that they claim then get the process started and let's do this right and through the process that was built into our system. Why do you think they are hesitant to go this route? Because the support they claim is NOT there. I will live with what the system sets forth IF they follow the correct process.2 points

So you know the neighbor did it? Even if I was moving, I'd still be onto the authorities. Cutting straps like that is not only vandalism, but its a blatant attempt to hurt someone badly. Not doing anything about it, knowing that the property is sold, it'll just happen to the next people and I wouldn't want something like that on my conscious. But that is just me.2 points

So once again Obama is playing dictator with more executive orders...this time gun control....It is getting real difficult biting my tongue on what I think someone in this country should do...1 point

If you sell A gun, the answer may be yes. “We will be looking for those individuals who seek to avoid registering,” Attorney General Loretta Lynch told reporters following a Jan. 4 meeting with President Obama regarding executive gun control. Lynch was referencing the portion of Obama’s pending executive-action gun-control measure that will require gun-sellers to register as federally licensed gun dealers if they meet criteria demonstrating they are “engaged in the business of dealing in firearms.” This language also means that private sellers registered as federally licensed dealers will have to perform a background check on every sale. One problem is that the White House executive action fact sheet does not present any numerical minimum on the number of sales that a private seller must conduct before he is considered to be “engaged in the business of dealing in firearms.” Rather, it indicates a private seller can be considered to be “engaged in the business of selling firearms” regardless of the location from which she sells, the frequency with which he sells, or the number of guns she sells. In light of this, CBS News reports that Attorney General Loretta Lynch is making it known that the ATF will be watching and looking for private sellers who “seek to avoid registering” as being “engaged in the business of selling firearms.” Lynch stressed that an “exception” remains for “the hobbyist and collector,” but the executive order means private sellers cannot continue to “hide behind that [exception].” Translation: “We will use this new executive order to mean whatever we want it to mean when we come for your guns.” That my friends, is the real reason for Obama's "executive order". Regardless of what supporters think, this is very bad legislation, and it just might get a lot of people killed.1 point

A .223 with the correct ammo, and a well placed shot is very effective on most NY whitetail. Although I prefer a different gun, I would not hesitate to use one of mine. Like any weapon you may choose, the shot (distance, deer position, etc.) needs to match the capabilities of the weapon, and the hunter. I for one am glad that NY state doesn't limit the use of .223, especially considering the disdain our legislators seem to have toward the AR platform. Lets be thankful we can have this discussion.1 point

To my knowledge, in areas where rifles were legal, the only requirement was that the cartridge had to be a centerfire. When they first legalized handguns in the southern zone, they had to be .35 caliber or larger.1 point

Guns aren’t the problem, people are. Evil is the natural, fallen state of humanity. Sin is what’s wrong with folks, not guns. More laws restricting the Second Amendment are just a band aid on a sliced artery because they do not address the real problem. It should seem obvious to those who possess basic critical thinking skills that the president is just using all of this to yet again move the progressive agenda forward. Unfortunately, there are many folks who will actually fall for this junk, thanks in large part to being duped by liberal indoctrination.1 point

Pretty much all things foraging, I love knowing what I'm looking at when hiking so I usually carry one of the small guides I own, rock hounding, Tree & plant Identification, animal tracks, mushrooming & birds. I use my air gun all year long to keep sharp. Indoors hobbies include collecting coins (American and European city-sates), minerals and crystals, real paper books. I video game also mostly FPS or sandlot games, and I am a gadget-aholic with a fetish for LED lighting.1 point
