  1. I do a lot of fishing and I eat a lot of fresh fish... When we started dating I was feeding her so much fish I was worried that she might turn into one... I had to check her tail now and then to see if she was growing scales...

  2. And the Panthers are in it! Been a fan since their beginning in the league. Not a big Cam fan as I don't really care for all the over the top showboating. But I do respect his athletic abilities. As a team, they are playing at the highest level. The Bronco's have a great defense, but I don't know if Manning can do enough on offense at this stage of his career. We will see. No matter who wins, during the game, I'll be drinking a couple beers, eating pizza and wings with family and friends, so I'll be a happy grampy!

  7. It was damn cold out there this morning but we went after em. Long story short, we kicked up two, had no shots at the first one and two of us missed the second one. We tried to get one for the dog, but no success this time. Chance did a good job and did get on the fresh tracks a yelping. Maybe next weekend. 4 miles in the books today. Here is a pic of Chance curled up on the ride home.

  8. Ok, with much difficulty, I think I got the gist of this post. And, I believe that I might even agree with it. However at the risk of being called the "spelling and grammar police", I have to say that a little time re-reading some of these posts probably would have avoided a lot of head-scratching. Seriously, I got totally lost a few times as I struggled more with the wording than the topic. I still have not figured out what the thought was when the word "dump" was thrown in to several sentences. What the hell does that mean? I am not trying to claim perfection in the English language, but I do try to make my posts readable. And I do that by re-reading the message before poking the "Post" button and fixing some of the glaring confusion.

  10. I thought it would be neat to show the steps that go into mounting a deer head. This will only be my second solo mount attempt ever. The first one still needs a few finishing items to complete it. I prepared the cape (fleshing, pickling, shaving and tanning) for this mount myself too. Here's a sneak peek. In order to get the cape to fit I had to make some slight alterations to the form. Looks like it will come together nicely!!!

  13. Too bad you aren't near broome county or Id be PM'ing you to try and do a couple hunts together. I have a FoxPro Crossfire and all the lights and hunt predators 2-4x a week. I think the same way you do. Whether I'm the shooter or the light runner, I just like to work on my calling and have people to go with. Good luck to you, sir

  14. Interesting subject. And to be quite honest, as I read this posting, a smile crosses my face. I'm actually seeing a partial transformation of public opinion on the use of the crossbow. A lot of the compound bow hunters that were diametrically opposed to the use of crossbows during archery season have come full circle in their opinions of crossbow use in the archery season. Apparently, us crossbow users are less of an intrusion on their god given right to have the public hunting lands to themselves. It took the possibility of opening part of archery season to muzzleloader. Apparently, to some of the compound bow hunters, the thought of sharing the woods with a gun user, from a noise and safety perspective, is less favorable than with with a crossbow hunter. Well as someone that has owned an archery tag for in excess of thirty years. I didn't appreciate the fact that my ability to continue to hunt, when I found it necessary to change from a compound to crossbow, met with resistance from the compound acher community. So much so, that the state of New York decided my Xbox was to be considered a gun during the first part of the archery season then miraculously becomes an archery tool for the latter part of the season. It's almost worth tolerating gun hunters during my archery season(payback), but I hunt private land.

  15. Happy for you grampy. Two number 1 seeds should make for a good game. If I were a Panther fan , I would be worried about the Bronco's pass rush. They destroyed Brady yesterday.

  17. BSH- That may be a spot (or somewhere nearby) to check out for sheds. All that pushing and shoving might just loosen up some antlers, or knock them off right there. Wouldn't it be great if you got a picture showing one of the antlers flying off ....Lol. One in a million odds, but it sure would be a great picture.

  30. Maybe so, but I have seen no evidence of rutting in this area (bucks trailing does, flehmening, lockdown, etc.) Buck sparring is simply bachelor group pecking order establishment and challenge. Interesting that often there is a spike buck, or a yearling toady, that is close too, sometimes even locking horns with its bigger brothers at the same time. A couple more photos of the skirmish.

  31. Tell me about your beagles and if you hunt them......(anybody here that has one) Male or female? How well do they mind you? Can you call them off a bunny if they get to close to a road? How about in the house, easy to train? Good with other dogs? Me personally, I have only owned two dogs of my own, both labs. Perfect labs................... I'd hate to get into something I might regret as I get older but I'd love to hunt rabbits. Put up some pics please, hunting, loafing or any type of beagle pic!!

  32. rocky you wont regret them

  33. They're a lot of fun to hunt bunnies with when they're trained right, but they're a one-owner dog. They'll generally listen to that one owner, but they're apt to bite anyone else.

  34. I had a pair of Cabela's 800 insulated for years and years. They cracked at a flex point. I got back $60 in credit and applied to some camo Muck boots. Hunted in gun season the last 2 seasons and have liked them. My Cabela's had a bigger footprint so to speak. These are easier and less cumbersome to walk in

  37. I've owned the 870 and a gas operated semi auto to shoot slugs. Bought the 220 a few years ago; damn accurate (Hornady SST's), its rifle origins allow a low scope mount and rifle like handling. Put a Aimpoint red dot on it with a EGW rail and it shoots better than it ought to for the price. Shop around, there are some good deals that come up on these. Did I mention its stupid accurate?

  40. I wish I could dispute any of that with any kind of conviction, but it is true that our individual vote is so diluted, that it is almost meaningless. And if you want an exercise in futility, try being a Conservative in NYS. Your vote pretty much has been relegated to a very quiet protest. On the other hand, if you don't participate in the system, I would have to say that you really have no business offering up any political opinions. It would seem that by opting out of the system of voting that we have, you are pretty much forfeiting whatever credibility that your opinion might have ever had. I have no answers, but I will say that occasionally I do see some surprising changes and political results that just simply were not supposed to have happened. Those are the little victories that tell me not to give up yet, and to keep on trying to use the system. The alternatives to that are too terrible to even contemplate.

  42. Well you believe wrong... I haven't been in on many, if any, CWD conversations because it is not a big issue here in NY as far as I'm concerned. The fact that there are some here that don't have a hatred for coyotes does nothing to prove your position on coyotes. To hold a position that predator populations must be watched and kept in check is sensible... calling for the eradication of entire coyote populations like you propose is asinine and shouldn't be taken seriously... and has no place in an intelligent conversation about whether or not putting bounties on coyotes is a good or bad idea for controlling predator populations.

  45. None of that was directed at you... sorry for the confusion. I also am not against a bounty if it actually helps with balanced coyote management... just don't understand those that would use it as a way to see that all coyotes are killed.

  48. The number of coyote's in some areas are just out of control. Our area of 4-H is one of those areas. When you recover a deer after a three hour wait and it is half eaten, there are too many coyotes. When at night, on a 500 acre farm property, you can hear two or three, large groups of coyote's calling back and forth, there are too many coyotes. When you see only one out of three does with fawns in the summer fields, there are too many coyote's. I could go on an on with observations, made by a couple of older guy's that have hunted and lived on this property their entire lives. All the land owners in the area say the same thing, so it's not just us. This is not some study done by any number of agencies, but real life observation, by the people actually on the land. I remember, before the coyote's population exploded. And the difference in small game, turkey and deer numbers, then and now, is staggering. So, what needs to be done? In my humble opinion, a year round open season, or a bounty like PA. is proposing, would be a start. But I know, that alone, will not reduce the numbers, to make much difference. And really, I don't "hate" coyote's. They are part of the wild, that make the outdoors and nature so special. I just wish there were not so many of them.

  49. And this is why the conservative mindset is a faulty mindset, Sarah Palin is the embodiment of stupidity yet she is worshiped by those of the extreme right, Not to mention the antics of her family gives a whole new meaning to the term "white trash".
