  1. had the dog out last Sunday and flushed 11 birds in two hours. Dropped three total one for each gun in the party. Wish I could head out tomorrow but juggling a young family and a passion for flushing dogs proves difficult. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. What people are failing to realize is that this has nothing to do with animal cruelty, but everything to do with the fact that this hound is used for hunting. This is a common tactic used anymore around the country. PETA gets in the local SPCA, and they go after the working dogs and hunters' beagles and hounds that are kept outside. This story is just beginning if he doesn't nip it in the bud now. Maybe the local SPCA is still legit, but if it is, he has a neighbor that is in PETA or another nonsense animal rights group. When i ran competition with my hounds, this was tried on me, and I dealt with it thanks to a little birdie that told me what was going to happen. Lets just say that the average, nosey person does not like a shotgun cycling behind them when they are sneaking around someone else's property.

  3. Again, there were other options available to the Feds. They chose to create a scenario where some form of violence was almost assured. When I first bought my property I had problems with raccoons. I put out a bait pile for a few nights and when there were a dozen or so coming in regularly I set up and killed one. The others never came back. I did it because I didn't want them on my property and I had to teach them a lesson. The Federal Government believes they have sent a message to The People of this country about who is in charge. I believe they've misjudged the situation.

  4. Anyone notice how rioters and looters can destroy private property, or a business that took someone years of sacrifice to build, and not get shot, or even arrested, while some guys can occupy some piece of Federal property, without doing anything else, and get killed by federal agents? Does anyone else see the government attitude here? Do you believe the government is applying equal justice under the law? When did an offense committed against the government become more worthy of criminal consequences than crimes against citizens? Don't overlook the fact the government actually made excuses for the crimes against civilians, while viciously condemning the occupiers on "their" land. The moronic masses that aimlessly follow the government agenda don't have a clue what sheep they are.

  5. If he planned a shootout, they would have had guns blazing when they pulled up, in the protection of the vehicle. Sad part is there was not a mass of people there to support them rather than burying their head in the sand with the it does not effect me attitude

  6. The gun is a CZ USA bobwhite in 28 gauge with 26" barrels. It's my go to grouse gun after logging many miles the 5lb 12oz. Gun is barely noticed. And it's quick to the shoulder with overlapping patterns. I couldn't ask for much more out of an attractive side by side for under six hundred bucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. I finally got home from the Shot Show after a storm on the east coast delayed most flights across the country. First real night home so I decided to go hunt my dog. When I got home my wife says I just missed the SPCA. Turns out someone walking down the road (best I can figure from the details I've put together) doesn't understand that hunting hounds are not lazy fat house dogs. They're in shape and they reported me saying he was malnourished. There's my first problem. They didn't come over and talk to me or take the time to learn what is really going on. But they did the "right" thing and reported it. I can get over that until I figure out who it was. What really set me off is that come to find out they showed up with a Sheriff Deputy and before knocking on the door they trespassed to the far end of my yard to inspect my kennel. You can see from the road the dog was obviously not in it. It was night time and the lights in the house were on. There was no reason for them to conduct a warrant less search. Had I been home and they had knocked first I would have shown them the dog. My hound has a feeder. He as access to nearly unlimited food 24/7. He's just active and very fit. Now that they violated my fourth amendment I'm exercising my fifth and they'll never see him. What if the dog was being abused. They would have just thrown out their whole case because they couldn't stop and ask first! Hopefully they learn from all the formal complaints I'm going to file. Oh and neither of them ever identified themselves to my wife. They just knocked on the door and started asking questions. Luckily she had the sense not to open the door until she knew who at least the SPCA person was. The Deputy though never identified himself and my wife thought he was another SPCA officer. Talked to the supervisor at the Sheriff's station late the next afternoon. I tore into him (nice and professional like) about how his officer failed to identify himself to my wife. Then went onto explain how his officer would have been responsible for jeopardizing the case had my dog actually been abused. I made sure to explain to him how I knew the difference between criminal trespassing and technical trespassing (which is what the officer did). Said I would have been nice and assisted in the investigation but now that they violated my fourth amendment I was going to exercise my fifth. Now they can't see the dog without a warrant so don't bother coming back. And I have pictures of both their foot prints in the snow. He said he had to wait a couple of days for the deputy to go back on duty but he was calling the SPCA officer immediately to get their side of the story. I said that's fine but don't come back without a warrant. Know your rights and don't give into the intimidation of law enforcement. Also obey the law and respect your animals.

  8. So between all the arguing, are you narrowing it down to anything?Let me back up my recommendation. I started predator hunting with a Remington 597 semi auto .22, lost two dogs after a long track job and decided to switch, started taking out my Remington mod 700 in 6mm ( basically a .243), had multiple dogs come in on a perfect set and there was no way I could get a second shot off at another dog...besides the fact it did terrible things to the pelt. So I saved my pennies and got the AR. Not only is it at tack driver at any range, but follow up shots are a breeze. Vmax 53 grain are also pretty easy on the pelts. Its my yote, fox, Chuck and " fun " gun. Ammo for paper is cheap, anybody can shoot it and have lots of fun at the range. A bolt action will save u some $$ but I think you may want to consider an AR. 9. The two vehicles were headed for a meeting in neighboring Grant County, the Sheriff of which had told the FBI in no uncertain terms that he would not go along with their actions and that they had no jurisdiction in his county. The FBI has complete jurisdiction anywhere when they are investigating a federal crime, No matter how many ways you keep trying to spin this in order to place the blame on others these right wing militia criminals have no one other then themselves to blame for their criminal actions. As for your claim that people in Harney County are supporting these criminals and looking to oust the sheriff I would like to see where you gathered this info from since everyone else is reporting the complete opposite. And maybe the Government is sending a message to any other fools who are thinking about doing something similar.

  13. Same could be said about someone fleeing from authorities that has a helicopter, roadblock, multiple agents pointing guns at you, and likely screaming to get down on the floor. Yet, he seamed to ignore all that, and did what he did anyway. Was he really the sharpest tool in the shed? X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems

  15. Only way to clear this debate up is to show dash cam video with sound. Right now everyone is speculating. I have watched the video 5 or 6 times and his arm movement seems weird. Could he be grabbing at a gunshot wound? That makes sense. Could he be going for his gun? Maybe that too. Although I will say if someone already has a gun pointed at you, you are stupid to think you can pull a gun to get a shot off. Also, if he was going for a gun, why didn't he come out of the truck shooting? To many unanswered questions with this whole thing. Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk

I bet you have a bernie sticker in the window of your parents basement where you no doubt live. What a piece of work.

  19. Video, enhanced for closeup view. It tracks precisely with the FBI video, IME. https://www.metabunk.org/m/Finicum.html Seems to me like the man was shot before he reached for his gun, and was actually reaching for his first wound.

  21. And I think people who have to carry a 300 Mag rifle to shoot a whitetail deer are compensating for something. With that said................... The woman who was asking me for help went with a 9mm. I did try to talk her up to at least a 40 S&W, but no go. She has never fired any weapon before and the g/f volunteered me to help her out with caliber and selection. Yes, she already took her course. Man, going to all those shops made me want another shotgun and rifle. She was happy with what she picked. I did talk her into a mid size pistol though. A little more weight will help with the recoil. Better for a first pistol IMO. I was glad to help and it got me another private land spot to hunt.

  22. I appreciate the link with the complicated belt driven machinery. About 50 years ago I worked in a local woodworking shop that built a variety of wooden products , from simple wood pallets to tool handles... The shop was powered by a big gasoline engine ( which also powered the attached sawmill) and various machines were attached to a huge shaft via complicated gearing, leather belts, and bavit ( sp ?) bearings...

  23. Barrels were being made way before the 19th century W/O lathes on forges where an iron strap was forge welded around a mandrel. The welded barrel blank was reamed until the bore was round then hand rifled with spiral guide whittled from wood. Beretta is the oldest manufacture of firearms on earth having started out making barrels in 1526, most likely smooth bores in the early days..Shotgun barrels were made by forge welding twisted wire around a mandrel. This is how a 'Damascus" barrel is made. In "Foxfire 5" it goes through every step required to make a muzzleloading rifle by hand forging all the parts. It also details how to lay out & make the "rifling roll". Basically one uses a chalk line laid out at an angle using the diameter of the wooden pole & the rate of twist. The pole is rolled over the chalk line leaving the spiral chalk line mark. The difficulty in building the gun that is the subject of this thread would be in making the complex shapes of the cylinder, receiver, etc. Around the middle part of the 19th century, arms makers like Colt, Spencer, etc started using some pretty sophisticated machinery. The stock duplicating machines were a wonder in themselves. The "primitive" aspect of their machinery was more related to how it was driven than capability. Until steam power became prevalent, water power was used W/complicated power transmission belts, pulleys, gears etc. I will try to find some images on how the hand rifling fixtures are made.

  29. Hunting in the woods with relatively short ranges or open country where shots could be taken out to several hundred yards, maybe a combination of both? Calling in the woods I have never taken a shot over sixty yards, I have successfully used a 22 LR, 22 Mag, 17 HMR also with a shotgun loaded with buck and once took one with a 410 slug. Open country is a different story, I like something that can get out there a bit, most of the 22 center fire varmint cartridges will work well, I trend toward the upper end stuff like a 22/250 and my favorite the 220 Swift. For an all around rifle in most Coyote hunting situations a 223 in a bolt action or an autoloader that looks and feels right and shot well would be tough to beat. The ammo availability in 223 is also a factor that makes it a favorite. Al

  30. I bought the D'extra before and it's quite a bit different than the regular one, but I'm sure going to try the Higher Math, in about two hours in the hot tub with the Mrs. She just"retired" if you count the company moving to Mexico and her sister died last week on my wife's birthday..... So,she could use a pick me up , and me in my bathing suit may or may not do,it alone ! Oh and thanks Paula.

  33. I like the idea your standing up for your rights. Being professionals, one would of thought business would have been conducted in a professional way. Sometimes, these agencies throw their weight around and don't get called out on it, as you can see by some of the responses given. Sounds like some of your passer byers need to lay off on the Animal Planet and watch more Hallmark channel.

  35. i use them for a lot of my hunting. my savage model 12 varmint rifle carries a Caldwell attached to the front of it on a 3rd stud. i forget how long it is but it's long enough for me to sit and use it unless i'm on a fairly steep down hill bank. it gets me 3 stable points of contact where I can make head shots on woodchuck past 300 yards. varmint hunting is usually setup friendly though. for deer hunting I've tried using it but a bipod pair of shooting sticks works much better. I have to setup quick and dead silent. I have a pair that goes from standing height to a bit too long for level ground prone. I can pull legs in close or stand them more upright to add length quickly. to shorten them on the fly I can spread the legs or tip it back toward me more. I've found it big no no to plant your attached bipod on a hard surface. with the guns recoil it changes the POI. that's what seems to work best for me anyway.

  38. .223 is solid coyote and fox gun. 22-250 a bit much on fox from what I've read. Another vote for AR platform but like others said you're going to pay for it. Tool around on Bark at the moon site for some ideas too. Don't forget your shotgun with #4 buck is very effective too at closer ranges.

  43. HERE IS A LINK that shows how it was done albeit the spiral grove was laid out W/oak strips rather than a chalk line. If the chalk line method is employed, the procedure would be as follows; Lets say that your wood pole is 15" in diameter & you want a 1 in 72" twist. You would lay out a right angle with the base 72" long & the vertical leg 15" long. A chalk line is them stretched across the hypotenuse and the pole rolled over it starting at the base. This procedure would be repeated at least 1 time for the guide pins. Muzzle loaders always had an odd number of groves so that the tool that cut 1 grove at a time would have material to rest on opposite of the groove being cut.

  44. I have a Primos trigger stick that I rigged up with a sling for carrying. It keeps the weight off the gun, and is great for still hunting. Yes, it does take time to unsling, set-up and use, but I try to avoid any hurried shots anyway. And of course, if you are hunting primarily from natural ground blinds you can leave it set up while you are on watch. Most of my ground blinds have gun rests built into whatever cover Material that the blind is made of. See below:

  46. Probable cause is what is needed for an arrest not a search. There are numerous exceptions to the Fourth Amendment that include emergency, escape and the possibility of evidence being destroyed. There is also what is considered the plain view exception. For example, if the police are walking past your home and they can see inside of it while you are committing any penal law crime they can enter without a warrant. The main thing to keep in mind when referring to the Fourth Amendment is that you must articulate an expectation of privacy, because without it the Fourth Amendment does not apply.

So you are right i don't know that all the powder burns from testing it, however the accuracy from shooting 150 grains of powder vs 200 grains is outstanding. i have shot this gun many times trying different bullets/powders and have found that this is what it likes. I'm not trying to say this is the best ml you can buy, I'm just saying that i enjoy the hell out of mine and it treats me well.
