Nope. I'll go to them. You let them in once, and next thing you know, the bathroom has a pink floormat, they've got their mail showing up & there's cute kitten magnets all over the damn fridge. No sir. Not me. I've learned my lesson.4 points

This is the Guns & Rifles forum. This is about semi-auto rifle bans. This is about getting them to the SCOTUS. That covers the SAFE Act. Get it now?4 points

I noticed my scope mounts were slowly creeping back so when I cleaned my 795 the other day I lock-tited the bolt threads. I figured while I was taking it to the range to get a -fresh zero I would do my son's as well as he has missed a dozen shots in a row. WOW! I don't know if he dropped his rifle or what but it went from being dead-nuts accurate at 50 yards to nearly 18 inches off. So after remounting his scope and sighting it in I finally got these results at 50 yards. Left to right... 1 shot, 1 shot, 4 shot group. So after getting the kids rifle all set, I figured I would do mine. Surprising how much just moving the rings back 1/5 of an inch will make a difference. At the end of the day I ended up with these results. Left to Right 1 shot, 2, 3, 4, 10 shot groups. It looks like the difference between an 18 inch barrel (mine) and a 22 inch barrel (the kids) is VERY significant! The kid has challenged me to hit a dime at 100 yards so we are going back to the range in the morning... and then out to put a few more squirrels and rabbits in the freezer. Anyone interested in hitting up Three Rivers tomorrow and / or Sunday with me?3 points

Revisit Yellowstone for a week or two. I was last there in Aug. of 2000 and it was fabulous then. One highlight was waking up at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel to Elk Bugling just outside on the lawn. Yosemine would be nice too. Hawaii, Mount Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Pikes Peak, Bad Lands, Colorado Dude Ranch, Painted Desert, Glacier National Park ... I think I need a bigger bucket.3 points

The SAFE ACT is completely lost within the state of NY. Besides the fact it's legislature is corrupt and it's courts are simply rubber stamps, the people in the state support it. The Supreme Court is the only avenue left for the repeal of the SAFE Act. Political? For those too blind to see it, ALL gun ownership has become political!3 points

I have to agree. The first step we must all take is one of realization of the above stated fact. Except for rhetoric there is very little difference between both sides of the establishment.3 points

With the Winter Bow season open till Feb 20th and 24" of snow that fell the week befor I headed to my stand hoping for a nice doe for the freezer. A group of deer came by from several trails and I spotted a good size doe limping into one of my shooting lanes, I drew back and just as I was about to shoot I noticed this buck trotting in on the same trail, so I held my draw while aiming on the same spot and when he was in my sight I let fly my arrow. It was a double lung and he ran 80 yards spaying blood on both sides of the trail in the snow, stopped and tipped over. When I got there it looked like someone threw a bucket of red paint on the snow. I am truly blessed and look forward to sharing this bounty with friends and family.2 points

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit has ruled that Americans have a “fundamental right” to so-called assault weapons, a major victory for gun rights. A three judge panel ruled that Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013, ban against what the court called “the vast majority of semi-automatic rifles commonly kept by several million American citizens”, is a blunt violation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution. “In our view, Maryland law implicates the core protection of the Second Amendment — the right of law-abiding responsible citizens to use arms in defense of hearth and home,” Chief Judge William Traxler wrote in the divided ruling. In his ruling, Judge Traxler sent the case back to the District Court for review, demanding they apply “strict scrutiny” – a stringent constitutional test that almost no gun control legislation can survive. “This case was a major victory for the NRA and gun rights advocates,” said Adam Winkler, a law professor at UCLA who specializes in Second Amendment law. “This opinion is an important one because it subjects important gun control laws to the most strict form of judicial scrutiny.” While the Supreme Court has not yet weighed in on these cases, Justice Clarence Thomas has complained that the Second Amendment was being relegated to “a second-class right.” “If a broad ban on firearms can be upheld based on conjecture that the public might feel safer (while being no safer at all), then the Second Amendment guarantees nothing,” he wrote, and added that those earlier decisions enshrining the right to gun ownership shouldn’t be expected to “clarify the entire field.” You can read the full ruling here (PDF link).2 points

I am in the process of rearranging my gun/hunting room...I have limited space.. I have a modest collection of box calls (14) and I would like to display them, keeping in mind that they be accessible, because I still use several of for hunting.... Anybody got any good ideas for a nice way to show off my calls and still keep them accessible for use ?2 points

I want to buy a big boat & live on it. Like a 34 - 40ft trawler. With a bunch of teak finish inside, a fly bridge, & full head & kitchen. Edit: I almost forgot the most important part. I want a Pitbull to live there with me. A rescue dog, not from a breeder. The 2nd most important part is that there'd be no women allowed. None. Zero. Not even once.2 points

That's great for Maryland but what does that mean for NY? Is there current legislation/appeals to overturn the unsafe act? You Can't Beat My Meat!2 points

Until all hunters are accounted for by forcing the reporting of every tag issued then nothing will change, They have no real clue as to what deer numbers truly are and are just spinning there wheels if a feel good manner. Waste of time and effort.2 points

I only have a Lynchs Foolproof #101 that I've had for 35+ years that's displayed in my turkey vest I think spurs, beards or spent husks you killed birds with should be incorporated somehow in your display. And BTW, impressive collection sir.2 points

Years ago I used to build electrics (necks are the hardest part)....sold a bunch to finance college books; always have wanted to try my hand at a acoustic from scratch. But I don't play, I'm musically challenged. In a similar vein, I had way more tied up in a registered Red Angus herd at one point than all this hunting crap I have. Guns and optics are cheap fun ;and you don't have to worry some puke is shooting a pellet rifle at a $5000 bull in a pasture for kicks.2 points

There is a reason why I do not go by the conservative moniker, nor do I follow media 'conservatives'. Collectively they have conserved exactly nothing of what a healthy and sustainable society and culture needs to flourish. We are in the last days of America as the world has known it. Look forward to a 'diverse' and violent second world culture to spring from the ashes. Conservative = loser, just as much as 'liberal' does. What are you all doing? Are you watching? Having a get together? Just me and the g/f here. If you are having people over what are you serving? Easy way, order pizza and wings? Making your own food? I wasn't going to even bother watching, but.... It's the big game. I am making homemade medium and extra hot wings, store bought jumbo pizza bites, and pepperoni cheese and crackers for a basic snack.1 point

Why are they beginning to firm up conclusions and setting some decisions up long before the conclusion of the comment period? What's up with that? Why ask for comments if the conclusions are going to begin to be established long before the comment period has ended? Is this comment period just a charade? Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?1 point

Back in my real childhood days, I spent a lot of the summer months going barefoot, and it was not unusual to walk through poison ivy with no reaction at all. Now, if I touch the stuff, I break out in a pretty ugly way. so there is an allergy that I developed in my older years. On the other hand, as a child I suffer something fierce with hay fever. Goldenrod and ragweed used to almost close my eyes right up with swelling and ,itching and runniness. And the runny nose and sneezing were pretty ugly. today, I might have a day or two of sneezing, but that's pretty much the extent of it. So these things can both ways with age.1 point

They are way ahead of you.... Oakley (and many others) sells interchangeable prescription shooting glasses with different colors based on use. Many clay shooters favor rose/vermilion tints. I have a hard time picking up movement and swear by yellow tint lenses that help with contrast and always hunt with that particular pair.1 point

My friend nailed this guy on Halloween night,he hit a branch and the shot wasn't good.We left him overnight and we found him this am.By the time we had gotten to him the coyotes had tore him up real bad.He still tagged him for the horns and we are taking the carcass back out to set a few traps around it to get some of the friggin coyotes. He came in to rattling and grunting. He green scored at 138 so he should make NYS big buck club1 point

I took this old fighter on Halloween. He came in after hearing a few bleats with the can. The shot hit its mark and he only went 30 yards and fell over. I guess my aluminum arrows and 100gr Thunderheads can still do it even at 35 yds. This buck was a real fighter as he has scars all over his face. His left eye was even swollen almost all of the way shut from a recent brawl. I haven't had him aged yet, but I believe he's and old timer and was in decline. He has unbelievable mass on the bases and main beams. His face and head are very gray, and he's missing quite a few teeth in the front of his mouth.1 point

This guy popped out of a stand of pines and was heading in the wrong direction. At 66yds I decided to grunt which turned him around. He came back to about 40 but had no shot. Started to leave again so I grunted and snort wheezed. Why not. And low and behold he came back and two my left for a 32yd shot. We have several cam shots of him. I actually told phade I would be happy to shoot him. Big bodied and named him tank. Not the biggest of those we have on cam but I couldn't be happier. First time I truly called a buck in.1 point

4 pt 0830 am, almost gave up early this morning before I saw him. 25 yards broadside and rage hypodermic 125 HAMMERED him. Pass through blades still sharp and straight. Shot was a little back he trotted 20 yards, did the tail flicker for 30 seconds and fell over.id guess 120-130 dressed. My buddy and I have had many close calls with him but let him walk because we didn't feel the shot was right. Glad we did.1 point
