  4. I don't have a problem with any of the WalMarts I go to . Some of the staff in sporting goods have been there for years and are quite competant . Maybe the employees down state aren't too swift but they are okay in western ny .

  5. By the time a buck gets to the age range that most consider "bigger and healthier", they have passed down the genes for a few years, to multiple does. Part of a good management plan is to take older bucks, thus giving them the time to pass on their genes.

  7. He's a great deer, but unless he's got some hidden tines...he won't touch the 160 mark.

  9. I started using a sled last year for hunting. Pop up blind, heater and bucket to sit on. Hopefully a deer to take out. Not as easy as it looks. Fine on flat ground. A little harder uphill. Worse down. Found a longer rope to let the sled go down first was the best way. PM sent.

  10. I was just looking into doing this myself and was thinking the same thing.....how the hell am i going to carry all that stuff on a backpack with my hunting gear?! Then i seen how other people do it....they just put everything on a little sled and drag it on the snow, nice and easy.

  11. Well, you did a heck of a job. Actually, considering that every stick of wood that's in our dinky cabin had to be taken in on an ATV, up an ugly steep hill for almost a mile, I guess I can't complain about how small it is .... lol. It is kind of a glorified tent. We built in some bunk beds, a table, propane stove, propane lights, kerosene heater and a dry-sink. We even had a battery-powered TV up there. Coldest temperature that I can recall staying up there in was 4 degrees below zero. Never did get cold. I even insulated the thing with styrofoam. It was a fun project.

  12. I've taken an oath to try to hold onto what's left of my sanity and not discuss religion or politics on this board anymore. That being said, you really shouldn't worry about this till after the November election. Right now the State Senate is controlled by the Republican Party, nothing like what was mentioned above could get through it.

  13. Sigh.... When are they going to learn that disarming law abiding citizens does not help anything? Also, you can't make ILLEGAL guns MORE ILLEGAL. None of these laws will do anything but make people like me jump through hoops to protect myself and my family, and to enjoy my hunting and shooting activities. Criminals will get their hands on guns when they want to, CRIMINALS DO NOT FOLLOW THE LAW! BY THEIR VERY DEFINITION!

  14. The problem is that everyone is going to college today, even those students that are not college material. Colleges should not have to offer remediation courses/programs. Some students are being accepted into college on temporary probation programs because they didn't make adequate grades in high school. Years ago they simply wouldn't of been accepted. Today it plain and simple greed!! This greed is flooding the job markets and children are now living with their parents well into their thirties because they can't find jobs. I have to kids of my own and I would never tell them not to go to college, however, I am definately going to encourage them to learn a trade. With the cost of living being what it is, children will need every advantage they can get so not to be a drain on society. If we want to fix the economy we should stop attacking the men and women who are actually working, union or non-union, and find a leader that has enough guts to go after the drains of society that have not worked in years because its easier to simply collect a check from the government that they have not earned!!! Plain and Simple!!!

  15. You don't need a heavy tent if you are talking about a few day excursions. I have done it many times in snow in a nylon tent. Get one that is free standing, and vented with a fly. condensation is a killer and it can be almost like rain in there...lol. the tent isn't the important part as long as it is water reisitent. I would put my money in a very good sleeping bag and a full length self inflating air sleeping pad/mat

  16. I found a great piece of property to buy,and I have been saving up, but I wasn't really in the market this year due to other expenses. Well this is an awesome opprotunity so here's the question. I have heard that on this type of purchase requires about 20% down, is this true and/or does anyone know a lender that requires less? I could take money out of my 401k but I have to retire in 5 years, at age 56 (mandatory for air traffic controllers), so I really don't want to do that, but I will think about it to get this property.
