got a nice doe today .my brother in law were walking a trail and they were walking right behind us to the right ( not sure why i turned around ) but there they were .( and we were chatting and laughing ) we both shot my brother in law missed but i got mine down she went .

Passed up several big does yesterday afternoon. Had to scratch an itchy trigger finger tonight...

Went to ole reliable...shot at a yote at 6:56...missed ...gun jammed spent 15 mins. fixing that...at 8:27 this guy showed up moving good...found an opening he was headed for...50yrds out...he appeared and I shot he hunched up jumped a few yards then walked away with his tail down and flickering very fast...I lost sight of him and heard no crash ...so sat tight....30 mins later a deer came into where I last saw him...spent some time milling in the area ...I knew he was down ...when the young doe left I went and got him...he'd walked another 60yrds and went down...no blood at all until 5yrds from his body...proud of that shot ..I'm not afraid to say

I hunted behind the house last night where I started camming this summer. I was hopeing to run into Six-zilla or Kong but instead I got an oppertunity this morning at another farmiliar buck from summer and I was determined to take advantage of it! Good ole "Mr. Clean" is now a statistic of the regular season! He made his appearance about an hour into my sit this AM. He came in behind me somehow never winding me. I wasn't expecting any deer from that way but it didn't matter. When he came through at 40yds I let out a mahhh to stop him. He stopped in his tracks right behind a tree with only his head and azz viewable to me. He quickly forgot what he heard and took the last step I needed him to. I dropped the hammer and watched him run off like he wasn't even hit. I was confused how I could miss such a crack-shot...... BUT...., when he hit the 100yd mark he slowed to a walk. He flicked his tail a few times, walked another 20yds, and fell over dead as can be! The shot was perfect double lung. It just amazed me how a dead deer running still makes escape look so calculated and gracefull. I'm really happy to have taken this buck, but I'm feelin my enthusiasm for deer hunting may be wearing thin. There's a good chance this will be my last kill for a while. I may just need a break from hunting for a season or two. Couple shots of him from summer.. ...and the field photos!

Didn't get a bow kill, didn't get a public land deer like I was looking for, but having my dad go out hunting with me on opening day and dragging back two deer was the best feeling. He got the Doe, I got a Buck.

Started my vacation last Saturday, 11/09 with a huge doe with my bow... Then added another nice doe bow kill Wed of last week, then rifle opener I took a nice 3 pointer... Definitely the best week of hunting I've had in a long time...

Ok. So here's my story on my harvest on opening weekend. Saturday morning 11/17/12 I get into my stand at the edge of a cut soybean field at about 5:45am. It's cold and no wind. As the horizon lightens up a few doe start moving about but way to far away - 250+ yards. Not comfortable with a shot so I sit and wait. About 1 hour after legal shooting light two small doe come out of the woods behind me to my left. They mull about eating about 75 yards out in the cut soybean field. They never present a broadside shot. So I watch them mull about. They walk in front of my stand but directly in front there is a tree with branches going every which way so I wait patiently. I decide to take one of them once they present a shot. After about 20 minutes, one of them turns broadside at about 100 yds and I squeeze the trigger. She runs off toward the tree line in the same area I shot my 5 pointer in 2010 and I'm think that crap, another hour to look for her. About 20 minutes later i get down and start tracking her. I get to the spot and just like 2 years ago see no blood. I start walking further away from my stand toward the direction of where I found my 5 pointer and lo and behold she's lying in the tall grass, not even 20 yards from where she was hit. That was an easy track. Here she is lying at my feet. The wound is the exit wound from my 30-06. Now Sunday morning (11/18/12) I get into my same stand about 6:00am. Again it's cold, no wind and frost on the ground. About 30 minutes later several shots ring out - before legal shooting light. I sit and see nothing other than some doe over 400 yards away. At about 7:00am out of the corner of my eye to my right I see a buck walking toward my direction along the edge of the soyfield at about 70 yards. I glass him to check his antlers and I count only 4. I continue to watch him as he gets closer and I see 5 antlers, then 6. I decide at that moment if he presents a shot I will take it. He continues to walk across in front of my stand and he gets behind the same tree with the branches in front of me blocking any shot. He stops there and feeds for several minutes. It's about 7:15 now and my legs start shaking. I have my rifle scope on him following him and he stares right at me. I'm thinking - Crap! He made me. He stares at me for several minutes and then looks down and continues walking. I find an opening to my left and I wait for him to get to that spot. He slowly walks forward and gets into the opening. He starts to quarter away from me. I put the cross hairs on his left shoulder and squeeze the trigger. He stumbles to the ground and goes 7 yards and drops right in the soyfield. I could not believe it. I surely thought he was going to bolt. I wait a few minutes and then I hear crunching behind me. I look and see a small spike coming right under my stand to my left and gets into the open field. He sees the one I just dropped and slowly makes his way over to him. He snorts, stomps, and circles him. After 10 minutes he finally walks away grazing. I tie my rifle to the tow rope (or at least I thought I secured it) and start to lower my rifle when suddenly I see the rope unravel and watch my rifle fall to the ground 15 feet and hit the ground with force snapping the rear stock completely off. I start cursing myself. I get down and look at my rifle - scope and barrel was intact but the rear stock broken off. My emotions went from elation to depression. I slowly made my way over to the buck I shot. I look at his rack and notice he's actually had a small seventh point about 1" long but I don't care and I chalk him up in my mind as my first 7 pointer. I go back from depression to elation. Now it gets better. I see the exit hole but no entrance hole. The exit hole was right in the middle of his chest. I then see what appeared to be a flesh wound on his right rear leg that seemed fresh. I'm looking at that and thinking - No way I did that! I flip this brute over and look for the entrance hole and after looking for several seconds I finally find it right above his left front shoulder exactly where I put the cross hairs on him. I was relieved. I'm wondering if that earlier shot I heard caused the flesh wound or was it from fighting?? I don't know and I don't care. He's mine and he's in the freezer next to his girlfriend.

Yesterday (Opening Day), 750am. Hunted 8 acres in Putnam County - 3N. Passed up a spike and 3pt, then shot this 4pt. My 5th buck in the last 6 years.

I took my 16 year old nephew to Letchworth Park today.He got his first deer about 10 minutes after legal shooting time started with his grandfather's very old J.C. Higgins smooth bore 12 gauge pump.He missed the first shot but hit him on the second, the deer went about 200 yards with no blood trail.I am so happy we found him! Picture is from a phone.It was a 6 point buck.

I walked out of the woods tonight at 4:30 at sunset, the end of legal hunting shooting hours, shaking my head in frustration. There was a solid 15-20 minutes left of shoot-able/safe hunting light left, and I'm leaving the woods during prime time. Good thing I'm a respectful hunter and obey a law that gets bent every season by many of hunters. DEC knows how tough New York hunting is, they could throw us a damn bone and give us at least 15 mins after sunset.

What did the DEC say when you called to report it?

Thanks all. We're heading over this week to fix him up. Just trying them all and feeling what's right for you, seems to be the correct way to go about it. I'd like to have his selections.

It'll never stop unless you turn him in. It sounds like you own property in the area and your neighbor owns the property thta this guy lives on. Well, does this guy pay taxes on it? Why should he come in and shoot everything when you pay the taxes for the land these deer frequent? But most importantly - what does your neighbor mean when he says, "he will handle it". Just exactly what does that mean? He doesn't tell you about it next time? Why did he tell you in the first place? Apparantly it didn't bother him! I have the same situation going on right now with a buddy in the Southern Tier. On a bordering property to my buddy, a guy shot a 5pt on Saturday and then a nice 8pt yesterday. And then he takes pictures of it and starts sending them to other hunters in the area. Eventually another neighbor sends the pictures to my buddy. My buddy tells the guy who sent the pictures that he is having him arrested and then the guy who sent him the photos started begging him not to because he doesn't want any trouble with the guy (i.e. poacher). As of this morning, my buddy is waiting for the ECO to show up. Despite the fact he may create waves in the neighborhood he is sick of it. They own their land, pay taxes on it, and hunt seriously, legally, and ethically only to have some slob do this and he has done it before. He's had enough and I don't blame him. This goes on way too much and it won't stop until others in the hunting community put a cease to it. And just to show you how much it goes on - look at the people on here who have tried to rationalize it. "Well well well if he put it on his wifes tag thats OK because if she was sitting there then she would have shot it anyway." Yeah, right. Thats like saying if I get caught robbing a bank then you should let me go because if I started a legitimate business I would have been a millionaire anyway. Pul-leez! What a joke.

Well lets say I see it way differently...for there are other guys /gals around me that have not shot a decent buck for years....my shooting the 9pt...then going out the next day and shooting a 8pt or one of the 10pts on Mr B's tag is cheating another hunter out of a chance for a nice deer...WRONG...WRONG...WRONG...it saddens me that ppl think it's OK...just because a tag was purchased...you want another buck...go bow hunting or muzzleloading...actually teach your wife to hunt and then be proud of her deer...WTH!!!

haha I was wondering too, I have that same bag that I put in my pack or back pack. It has all the esentials, compass, matches, bandaids ect. I tried the old I forgot my knife trick saturday, my dad answered with the old I can't hear you trick..haha -touche old man

Its a shame people can't just follow the rules.. Because of people like that the Hunters who abide by the rules loose out. I wouldstill call Dec and have them watch this guy.. He's bound to do out again this season

Not me, I had my fill. I love gun hunting, its a whole different set of challenges. Dont worry, the deer will calm down after the action slows down. The last week of gun and late muzzleloader are my favorite times.

How about I saw a flashlight moving through the woods, hundreds of yards away, and it was close to 7am lol. 2 years in a row I saw this. Guess whoever it is, is afraid of the dark lol.

Thanks guys! Arrow nocker - Yea he had great mass that went all the way up his main beams. Score will be in tonight but it wont matter what it is. I am just pumped to have had the opportunity to take this guy. As much hard work as I put into deer like this, a lot of it is luck, and I got lucky!

My wife says the whole house is my man cave lol. My real one is in the basement 7 x 10 an old office of sorts by the last owner. Nice desk along one wall and part way up another,built in floor to ceiling shelves about a foot deep 5 foot long. It has worked well,gun safe all my hunting clothes,bottle of Bushmill.... 30 years of Playboys ! I've started to take over the large finished room as both kids are at school most of the year. My Mullie is on the wall down their and a bear rug so far. Hey she's got the kitchen and washroom what more does she need ?

I've never seen and electric riding mower. Who makes them? Still, getting on and off may be a problem. Some days it's tough to get on and off the mower that I have now.
