  1. 11 pointer from opening day of gun season, 45 minutes into daylight. Shotgun season for us here in Genesee County. He was chasing a doe up the hill at 25 yards, good thing I had some good wind, he was right on her tail. Let's just say he dropped 25 yards away. Let me know what you guys think. We've been letting the bucks mature on our property and it has paid off. Shoot straight! Good luck everyone

  3. My nephew and I were hunting together on opening day. Around 7am a doe came out of the Hemlocks and milled around for a few minutes. All of the sudden she ran off with her tail half raised. I told my nephew there was a buck following her and sure enough he stepped out a few minutes after she did. She was still milling around and he had his eyes fixed on her, which allowed for the noise my nephew made. LOL When the buck stepped into an opening he made the shot but the deer looked like he wasn't hit. He walked off in the same direction he came from. I waited a few minutes and went to look for him and he was down but still not dead when I found him. I waited till he expired and called my nephew to come down and see his buc, a nice 6 pointer. Still not sure who was more excited!! I'm a proud uncle to say the least!!

  4. Got my buck and doe opening morning minutes after each other in Chenango County. I could hear movement down in front of me so i hit the grunt tube. Next thing I know the doe came in to my stand on a rope and i turned her broad side at 20 yards and hit her with a perfect shot. She only ran 20 yards and dropped. I called my dad to let him know she was down then the spiker came in. I hung up the phone and took a shot and missed because i shot standing up without a rest. He ran a little bit and stopped so i hit the grunt tube again and he came back. This time I made sure he i had a good rest and hit him right behind the shoulder. Needless to say my season was done early.

  8. I don't even remember seeing this post back then. I gotta say not many around here kill such deer consistently as Lawdwaz, that's for damned sure. Many talk big stories of passing up the little ones, yet have $#!+ to show for it as far as actual kills of the big ones on such a regular basis. LOL My hats off to you man! You're a lean, mean, big buck killin machine!

  12. I hunted behind the house last night where I started camming this summer. I was hopeing to run into Six-zilla or Kong but instead I got an oppertunity this morning at another farmiliar buck from summer and I was determined to take advantage of it! Good ole "Mr. Clean" is now a statistic of the regular season! He made his appearance about an hour into my sit this AM. He came in behind me somehow never winding me. I wasn't expecting any deer from that way but it didn't matter. When he came through at 40yds I let out a mahhh to stop him. He stopped in his tracks right behind a tree with only his head and azz viewable to me. He quickly forgot what he heard and took the last step I needed him to. I dropped the hammer and watched him run off like he wasn't even hit. I was confused how I could miss such a crack-shot...... BUT...., when he hit the 100yd mark he slowed to a walk. He flicked his tail a few times, walked another 20yds, and fell over dead as can be! The shot was perfect double lung. It just amazed me how a dead deer running still makes escape look so calculated and gracefull. I'm really happy to have taken this buck, but I'm feelin my enthusiasm for deer hunting may be wearing thin. There's a good chance this will be my last kill for a while. I may just need a break from hunting for a season or two. Couple shots of him from summer.. ...and the field photos!

  13. So why didn't they take the extra step and give it some ATV features so you could drive it from your truck to the tree and they hook it up to the tree and take the whole thing up with you. Maybe that is phase two to be introduced in a year or two ..... lol. Hey, with a little more engineering, we won't even have to walk to go hunting. We can take all the effort out of hunting eventually. Just sit back and ride everywhere .... ha-ha-ha.

  19. Rem 870 is a tank. I have beat my through the bush for almost 20 years with not one issue. I saw dicks had them on sale w/ scoped slug barrel and bird barrel for 260. You cannot beat that deal. My dad is on season 47 with his and same, no problems, ever. As far as the rifle goes, im also a fan of the rems.

  20. Private business has the risk...that is why they should get the rewards. If you don't want to be stepped on as a little guy.....work you a$$ off and don't be the little guy anymore. then you can take the risk and have the reward. ....Unions want the reward with no risk. Let's face it...bakers Union...really? they aren't inventing anything...they arent chefs....they are on par with the grill operator at Mc Donalds. and there is nothing wrong with that, but don't expect pay and benefits on par with a five star chef...lol. Auto workers....don't even get me going.....square peg in round hole all day and they want a 6 figure package.

  22. Fishers have been well documented, same with moose, etc. Sorry, but with ALL of the trailcams out there, someone would have come up with definitive proof by now. Every single time someone comes up with a pic, its proved to be fake or misidentification.

  23. Nobody discounts that. Heres the kicker though, the one time there actually was one in NY, it was well documented, unlike the plethora of claims that happen every year.

  29. Have not hung a deer for more than a day in years...mine are usually butchered within two days. Our venison is always delicious. I think the real key to good venison is handling in the field. A well-placed shot and a neat job of field dressing goes a long way toward good venison.

  31. In my early hunting years, I hunted with a 308 reloaded with 47 gr 4064 powder and 125 gr siera boat-tails. It was an older Mauser action that someone had done a lot of work on "glass bedding and the works". I lucked out and picked it up cheap and it was my 1st gun and only gun for years. Never missed ..lol.. In those days I shot most of the deer in the neck (spinal region) .Always resulted in an instantly downed deer that never moved again. I think ,due to the "explosiveness" of the light bullet and high speeds this was very effective. Now that I have moved on to different gun/s and do not practice anywhere near as much as in the past I have moved on to the behind the shoulder shots, a lot bigger target ..lol.

  32. My mother is Iriquois, not that that has anything to do with this conversation. But, then again, I've noticed that you have a cocky answer for eveything. I'm not impressed. If you don't know what you're talking about-which you obviously don't pertaining to down here, then why do you assume that things are done to keep taxes under control? So, tell me-how do these developers who are building $700,000 homes keep taxes under control? It doesn't. In fact, it raises everyones taxes. Since the need for more services goes up, so does the tax rate-to staggering proportions. By the way-I don't know where you live, but our "towns" range in populations of anywhere from 25,000, to over 40,000, within miles of each other. Crime rates are through the roof, and murders are becoming commonplace. The city of Poughkeepsie has a staggering crime rate per capita. How many people do you have living in your community?

  37. What happens if I'm up in a tree and the battery dies, how do I get down? The TreeRider has a dynamic braking system built into the winch motor which will slowly lower you down the tree.

  38. OK..........a couple observations. First.......cool! Second.......what if like every other mechanical thing on earth it should stop working for some reason, and you are up in the tree? You're there! LOL! The other thing, I was cringing the whole time the guy was bouncing, jumping, leaning on the rail backwards, as I was looking for his safety strap. I never did see one on him, but towards the end he did say they recommend you wear one. Did anyone see a safety strap on the guy demonstrating the stand?

  40. Sure is comfy, as you can tell by the stool, thermos and big bag full of my famous fried egg sandwiches ..... lol. No way for a deer to sneak up on you. And gun rests on three sides. I build these things for all day hunts so comfort and convenience are important.
