  1. I just made a couple of these for relatives and was wondering if there was a market for them. Just out of curiosity what would someone pay for a hand made Betsy Ross flag like this? They are made from reclaimed dog eared stockade fence. Measure approx 42" x 26"

  5. Merhaba, There is a new archery range opening up in Long Island City in Queens by where you're staying but I don't think they will be open by the time you're here. Further on the other side of Queens are two shops worth visiting. They shouldn't be more than a 15 minute drive from Long Island City. They have instructors that can assist you in archery practice (you can rent some of their bows to practice with) and help you find the right bow/equipment for you. 6. I hope you have a great safe visit! I cant make very good recommendations any more (I haven't actively been a bow shooter for a few years), but north of Boston are two excellent stores you may want to visit for advice and shopping. The first is a Cabelas in southern main. You may already be familiar with the national chain. The other is The Kittery Trading Post, in Kittery Maine. They are about an hour and a 1/2 or so north of Boston, about a 1/2 hr apart from each other. Both have online sites for you to explore to learn more. It is very possible to find a used bow in your budget, if not a new one. Boston is a great city, and you should have a great time there, especially if you are interested in early American history. New York is exciting, but Boston is easier to get around. And don't worry aobuot language mistakes! We Americans frequently cant even understand each other. Dave

  8. Holy crap, did I ever have the experience of a lifetime today! I was hiking around the goldenrod after pulling my cameras this evening. I had just entered the woodline when all of a sudden this big doe comes racing in towards me and stops about 5ft (yes FEET) away! She never noticed me because she was focused on something going on behind her where she just came from. She couldn't have been there more than 5 seconds when I heard a fawn cry. She took off like a rocket towards the sound. Out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of what at first appeared to be 3 fawns chasing each other with momma closing the distance on them FAST! They all shot back out into the goldenrod I'd just come out of when I noticed they stopped a ways out under an apple tree. I could see mom standing there, but the grass was too tall to see much else. I put it in high gear and tried to get as close as I could for a possible photo opportunity of the fawns. As I was sneaking up on them, the big doe began stomping and blowing at her fawns under the tree. The fawn suddenly sounded like it was being slaughtered, screaming at the top of it's lungs. Momma doe lunged forward snorting repeatedly and then bounced back and stood her ground. About the 3'rd time she did this, I saw a coyote head shoot up out of the tall grass and strike at the old girl! I was now about 20yds away. Now I knew what was REALLY going on only yards away from me and I couldn't wait to get in on the action! I tried to sneak in just a little bit closer to see over the top of the grass, but I was crunching with every step. The doe turned around and spotted me before turning tail and bolting off like lightning. As my attention was stolen by her I snapped a few shots as she bounded away, then I heard one last bawl from under the tree. I saw what looked like one of the yotes tails do a barrel role before everything went silent. I knew they were in there, and I wanted nothing more than a picture or two of this crazy encounter, but I still couldn't see them so I inched my way closer hoping they were still where I expected them to be, perhaps guarding their kill. By the time I snuck in to the exact spot they were at, they had disappeared without a trace. I stood there surveying the field for a few minutes, when I finally spotted movement again in the grass heading up to the timber above me. The two yotes had a successful hunt, and were dragging the fawn off for dinner about 100yds away up into the woods. That was by far, the coolest, most WILD thing I have ever witnessed in the outdoors.... even though I didn't have the best seat in the house for the show and didn't get any pics of the action. I had goose bumps most of the way home it was so exhilarating and exciting! This is her at the kill site before the fawns final breath. It's one of 3 shots I got that doesn't do much to tell any of the story but the picture is still painted vividly in my mind. This was as wild as it gets for me! The fawn would have died whether I was there or not, so I felt no need to intervene. I don't hate coyotes because of this encounter neither. I'm just THRILLED to have had the experience not everyone will ever witness! Sorry I couldn't get any better pics, but I had to share this story anyhow!

  9. exactly. We brought this up before. The site bans the word and suspends members who use it, but allow it on their site. Very hypocritical

  10. As I stated, fighting laws and politicians through the proper channels is not rolling over. If I remember correctly, you're a judge of some sort, so i'm surprised you don't support this. I belong to the NRA. I belong to SCOPE. I have a sign in my yard. I try to educate people who are uninformed about the SAFE act. I use my vote and so does my wife. Short of going to rallies, there's not much left for me to do legally. exactly. And violent protest does nothing but further the belief of anti-gun and fence riders that they need to further pursue control and bans

  12. I would like to see the guys who say they will not comply in any fashion, head to the range with their banned assault weapons and high capacity magazines and have at it..........hiding it in your basement is the same as doing nothing, is it not?

  13. I don't think Belo is rolling over. He's just fighting in ways that won't involve his family even if it is limited. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. Haven't wounded a deer yet with a bow not sure why not. I guess I'm due. Lucky misses hitting twigs though that could've gone bad. Recurve shots are limited to 15 yards. Practice out to 20 yards mostly and sometimes 30+ with the recurve. With compound I shoot competition too and practice out to 80 or more depending on where I am. Shots are limited to much less though. With a heavy arrow with good front of center I still won't shoot at anything that far. Not even a bigger vital like an elk. Just too much can happen before the arrow gets there. Between animal reacting to load it's front legs and whirling around you should not be aiming where vitals are anyway. Aim where you think they'll go. 20 yards you can aim just below centerline. 30 you should be aiming bottom 1/3 and 40 you're aiming at bottom edge of its body. 50 well you're probably better off aiming just below and hope you miss but it'll drop it heart right into path of arrow. Whether or not it'll whirl away depends on a lot of stuff which changes your left to right. If you hold right behind to shoulder and it whirls you'll be into shoulder blade. Each deer and case is different. Takes a lot of dead deer to start figuring it out too. More than I've shot. You discuss and combine experience with other good shooters that call their shots.

  15. You are off your rocker. The founding fathers were fighting a foreign ruling government. I don't believe they ever envisioned 200+ years later that the citizens of their well established nation would begin violent protest. I do believe they would want us to exorcise all of our rights by voting out the officials we don't like, and that's the best thing we can do. But you papist, and the other tin foil hat wearers hell bent on militia type revolts need to chill out. We are all anti-safe act, and I do not even own an AR. But I have a great job, a young family and a good life. I will vote and educate and help spread the word about the BS the Safe Act, but I will not risk my family for an assault rifle. If you think you're some great martyr you're naive. If you get arrested for your unregistered AR you will make page 2 of the local town newspaper and nothing more. There will be no Tienanmen square for you.

  16. What they really need to do is craft the new gun laws just as they did with the drug laws so they are able to achieve the same success ratings.

  19. Biz, My Dad got me a pair of sheds from a Pere David's when I was little. I've been obsessed with them ever since. It was really hot out. We had to skin it, quarter it, and get it on ice right away. My girlfriend is also my taxidermist, so luckily she was there and she took care of the cape.

  20. Dunstan are 99% american. I have pure which succume to the blught, as well as Dunstan n Chinese. They produce nuts in 5 to 7 years. they do not frost out as they flower inJuly. Are non cyclical. The american nuts taste like sugared almonds raw ,and better roasted. The deer ,bear, squirrels, and other game will stand under them and wait for the nuts to fall (bears will climb and break limbs off to get them) . One must remember.one Of every four trees in the northeast was a chestnut. Acorns were rare and are bitter. Here are a few pics. a year old from a nut last fall.pure american from a nut 15 years old dying from blight but still producing.close up of canker from blight killing tree by girdeling.close up of flower stalks (will be white flowers in about. Two weeks).usually top 1/3 to half of tree produces nuts(previous photo is actually chinese as my Americans are to tall to get close ups.close up bear claw damage from two years ago.(bark damage is how blight enters tree.

  21. And these guys know what the reality of the SAFE Act is, but they don't seem too upset by the fact the law was passed! "Oh well, the government just took away some of my rights with the threat of imprisonment. What can you do? I think I'll have another beer and just take a nap." The founding fathers would be ashamed of all complacent, docile, apathetic, gun owners. Nothing you have in this life is worth the freedom you are about to see vanish. If you won't have freedom, what difference does it make if you risk going to jail? And when your grandchildren ask you what you did to stop it, what are you going to say? I voted against Cuomo? Big deal.

  22. Thanks ...I added a few trees to the clover plot...the 4 apples I planted last year are doing great...save one fireblight issue...but I added 2 Paw Paw...which are leafing out....as well as the 4 chinese chestnuts in grow tubes..but then bought 2 Dunstun chestnuts...one had a chestnut already.....give it 5 years and they will have more than they can eat..that area is surounded by mature red oaks as well...Oh and I'm stringing wire above the fence and that will support the grapes I'm transplanting along the fence I installed last year....

  24. Not sure which model your camera is. I know some cameras have software which allows you to adjust the settings on your computer. It will not help you in the field (unless you tether to a laptop) but might allow you to create different settings in advance.

  25. Thanks Wooly. I got to within about 30 yds of him and decided not to push it any further. He was only about 20 yds from my best treestand and I'd rather not 'educate' him if I can help it. Getting close is half the fun, though. I've taken a couple decent bucks over the years that ended up with powder burns on them. LOL I shot about a hundred frames yesterday just playing with some settings and taking notes. It was a great day for experimenting: bright/sunny, hazy, rain, fog/mist... I'm surprised at how quickly everything's coming back to me. Now if I can just get my right eyeball fixed so that I don't have to rely so heavily on the AF.

  26. Anyone who is willing to comply with the SAFE Act law is just helping the anti-gun politicians to proceed to the next step. What will that be? Bans on all semi auto rifles? All handguns? All Semi auto shotguns? When do you guys decide to grow a pair and say, "I will not comply!" When guns are outlawed, I'll become an Outlaw! And that ain't just talk!

  27. I love how all these people say I would comply. Sorry what gives the state the right to force me to either sell, or dispose of legally owned property of mine. Anyone that says the Safe Act does not effect them, better hold on it will, and when it does it will be too late. Also one other thing there is NO SUCH TERM AS ASSAULT WEAPON. That is a made up term by the gun grabbers. AR stands for Armalite Rifle. Also I find it funny how when the government orders what they call ASSAULT RIFLES, they call them PERSON DEFENSE WEAPONS.

  28. It is not just upstate that disagrees with this stupidity. The article states how even the police will not enforce this law.

  29. I am not the one doing this, it is done by the people who do not register, look at the facts in the article. More than 90% did not comply. If they banned your hunting guns would you comply?
