  1. This is interesting. They did a good job of getting OUR message out. That is the only factual info they ever published since they started in 1976.... (However, they were compelled to say I call myself the "elite hunter" on here... I guess its never let the truth get in the way of a good story as usual with them with that comment.)

  2. Cats still haven't forgotten that they were worshiped in Egypt. Their attitude remains the same.

  3. I started a community page to check out NY trail camera photos. Not specifically hunting-related, but I am sure alot of it will be geared toward deer and turkey. Check it out and give it a like if you wish. It is not a for-profit venture, so hopefully this isn't advertising/violating forum rules. If so, please take it down. https://www.facebook.com/newyorktrailcameras

  10. OMG he kicked my arse today... I carried 45# boxes of honey through 2Ft of snow that had a crust on it...so Oh ya of course bad leg went plummeting through..... landing the full force of my body with hive straight on the knee with the torn ACL...then I had help with a couple but yep ..yet again I went through up to my knee and we lost the box..get to the van and what is at the back door...blk ice and down I went nearly taking out his wife who then dropped the hive on my shin...When is this snow going away!!!!!! He wasn't kidding, it's dang hard work....but I learned a ton...and Wow they fed me a great lunch and packed me off with a bag of goodies....working tomorrow as well but no more retrieving dead hives...now its setting up transport hives so when he orders new queens he can divide his live hives and replace all the ones that died...it was sad seeing all those dead bees...Well I'm stinky and sticky and need to go soak before dinner...It was a long day...

  11. That's understandable .... lol. You should have heard the ridicule last time I told my wife I was going to buy another trail-cam. She had already heard all the hard-luck stories regarding the cameras that stopped working. I have to admit that I am starting to feel a bit exploited....lol.

  12. I've got a Nikon D5100 with lenses and other stuff... bought it as a package deal. I don't think it'd take it out in the rain ever though. I've got a slightly cheaper Sony Handicam for that and up in a tree. I use Muddy mounts and they seem to be solid. for cheaper arms it's good to replace washers with good Teflon ones. head rotation is more important. zoom slowly or manually if there's a lot of brush. always film video in HD. like wooly just not as skilled I usually stick to F setting/aperture priority. when you can lock in a bird or deer pics come out good. rest is slightly blurred and every one knows what you intended to shoot. as a relative beginner I feel like I've accomplished something then opposed to snapping away in Auto. I've got a DVD that's packed full of tips and how to use info for my exact camera. I'm sure there's something out there for yours. Definitely pause that thing and play. I've had it a while and still not through it. I had this PSE calendar with whitetail photos on it that had all the settings listed at the bottom of the picture. That was cool. Still figuring stuff out though and have a long ways to go.

  13. The prizes for this contest were unsolicited donations, each and every one of them. Most were the material prizes shown, and the QDMA memberships are basically cash out of the donor's pocket. If you dont like the prizes for the contests, feel free to donate some that you feel are better. The members that donated the prizes should feel very good about what they did, and not have their offerings slandered by others. Classy

  15. Sounds like there is room in the market for that kind of brillance. You'd think that a company like Vista - which is one of the highest ranked Fortune companies in America - would know they could make money if it were in their grasp to do so. Electronics are borderline planned obsolesence, and that's just cell phones, TVs, iPads, etc. None of them sit outside on a tree when it is -10 degrees and we're inside on the couch by the fire using the iPad. Vista Outdoors - just a tiny portion of that ownership - had sales revenue of $2.3B last year. Their organic growth year over year is 20% since 2003. That kind of performance is not only amazing, but envious. They know how to design and sell products. You should write them and tell them that it is unacceptable - they might hire you full-time to show them the light. The expectation that a $100 product with electronic and moving parts should last more than a year or two outside in the elements is a bit of a mismatch in my book.

  17. What I expect is that a product will perform the duties advertised longer than just a year or two. If there are things that wear out or burn out quicker than that then a little more time on the drawing board is in order. There is absolutely no excuse for the kind of performance records being posted in this thread ..... none at all..... especially at the price they are asking for these things.

  20. Your response letter sounds exactly like the one I got for wild game innovations. I boxed it up sent it back and put in a note that said you can throw it away, and I will save room in my trash. I never heard back.

  22. Shot a 265, not a very good showing but it was enough for 3rd place with a 267 average. I was the best of the worst, lol. Had some fun and some good food. Purchased a lantern from LL Bean. Small lantern uses 4 AA but nice when you just need some light to get the other lights on!

  24. Fasteddie, Sorry to hear of your Primos problem. I was considering buying a Primos, but will swerve away from that brand and continue looking. Shame to spend good money on stuff that is sub-par. The primos boys don't care. They just keep cranking out their videos, yuck it up during the porch scenes, laughing all the way to the bank taking their cut from the revenues generated from the stuff they endorse. Sonofabee....

  25. The original question was, "...are they more worthy of self protection..." The answer to that is no. Everyone is equally worthy of self-protection. Do LEOs have more to worry about? Absolutely. That they have more to worry about is basically a part of the job they've chosen. I have about a dozen friends and family in LE. Not a single one would ever consider themselves somehow more worthy of self-protection.

  26. Bummer......... In lieu of tonight's dinner, pick up a half price corned beef tomorrow from Tops or Wegmans and cook it up for supper. It'll be just as good or better. Actually, I've never had CB at a restaurant. Only at home............... Good luck Red!

  30. LOL.. we humans are complicated animals that have emotions that wander all over the place... I guess we can be sensitive and understand reality at the same time. As much time as I spend in the woods I see very little in the way of winter kill in my area

  31. Out of out 73 acres I have maybe 5 acres that I have literally cut out to be able to plant. The woods I refer to as being selective cut, were not just ours but neighboring lands. Much of what is here is in fact mature hard wood lots with mature pines woods sprinkled here and there..remember finger lakes area... In your own words a study referred to mature forests...and mature forests have little under story because...they have mature canopies...now this was also proven to me when the gypsy moths came in and tore through this area..leaving little canopy for 2 yrs..Ask Doc...sure he remembers...we had such an influx of undergrow the woods looked like a jungle of briars...elderbrush. wild flowers and fern Management has so much more to do with a lack of under story than just deer...Someone needs to cluein NYS park foresters to this.

  33. Wrong!! The problem is pet owners who profess to love their animals but refuse to own them responsibly which really shows that they talk a good game but don't actually give a damn about them. Yes they turn them loose and then whine about careless driving when they run out in front of cars and become highway Frisbees. They think it is just fine for them to be torn limb from limb by coyotes or foxes or shredded birds of prey. And if they become the scourge of wild-life, it is of no concern to these people. The dog owners that "owned" the dogs that tore our sheep apart thought it was a nice thing to let their animals run loose. I have heard people moving out into the country talking how nice it is that the dogs can be allowed to run free. Yes, that is the lack of responsibility that a lot of people in this thread are responding to. If you can't control your animals, you don't deserve to have animals. And don't be blaming others for your thoughtless attitude toward pet ownership.

  35. Sweet- now send that Canon back and get yourself a real camera like a Nikon! Have fun with the new rig Joe. You'll learn everything you need to know the more you shoot it under a variety of conditions. I like shooting in aperture priority mode for most of my shots because it's the easiest for me to control, and I let the camera figure out the shutter speed with the available light. Check out some photography forums online to get familiar with all the settings and what they do. It was real frustrating for me in the beginning and I missed a lot of shots I wish I could do over again. Don't get discouraged and stick with it. I'd rather carry a camera to the woods any day over my gun or bow now.
