  2. Finally getting out to hike around a bit now that the weather seems to be breaking. Still too much snow in the timber to go looking for antlers so I like to spend some quiet time around the water to snap some pics and chill out. The sights and sounds are relaxing to me and the birds are starting to show up.. Tried a few long exposures with my ND filters while the sun was high in the sky, and wanted to try a couple B+W conversions to kill some time. Try not to pay attention to the big booger on my sensor that showed up in a few of the pics.... I picked it off already.

  5. If the only concern someone has on this issue is about what the gun 'looks like', the gun-grabber propaganda has been pretty effective. In the original post, technical questions were asked about using an AR for hunting in NYS and they were answered. Then it was asked why someone might choose to use that type of gun for hunting in NYS, and again the questions were answered. Everything since then has turned into an elaboration of the second question and the answers that were provided. The second question should have been a statement: "People shouldn't be using those kinds of guns to hunt in NYS.", because that was clearly the meaning and intent and no amount of tap-dancing through the past 8 pages will change it. That it was phrased as a question meant to incite discord, rather than a statement to posit a view shows some insincerity on the part of the poster.

  7. Because it is archery equipment,Most states are that way also.I enjoy bowhunting,I shoot 3D all spring, summer and fall, but its a great thing when you try a new way to hunt.At best I feel a crossbow is in between a regular compound and a muzzleloader,so if they feel that a crossbow is comparable to muzzleloader and rifle because we can use them in those seasons(all of the season) then why cant we use it during the whole archery season with them allowing us to 2 weeks.I guess I don't get the way they are implementing it,unless they are just getting the crossbows foot in the door sort of thing.

  8. I hate to think where we would be right now, if the sick S.O.B's who carried out the attacks that started all of this "assault weapon" nonsense, had used pump action shot guns……...

  10. Yup, and unfortunately that is precisely the area that we have to deal with.

  11. I agree, maybe some should relax a little. We are all entitled to an OPINION. You can hunt with whatever rifle you want to, I don't care. Nor do I care what kind of rifle you own. If I see a deer hunter in the woods with an "assault rifle'" (using the generic pc term I know, but you know what I mean), I would look at them like a Rambo wannabe. That is my OPINION. That might not be. That is true. Use any rifle you want to hunt deer as long as it is legal/ethical. But others are allowed to have an opinion.

  12. Salamidas hunters pride jerkey juice, soak 24 hours, lay on rack and pepper to liking red flake or black. My dehydrator takes about 3 hours.

  13. His original question was answered with a bs answer. An AR is more accurate? If I shoot a bulls eye at 300 yards with my Mossy 308 and you shoot a bulls eye at 300 yards with your AR they both have the same accuracy right? Or is a bulls eye with an AR better then with any other gun? Some one also said they liked them because if they needed a second shot they didn't want to fumble around with a bolt. I can cycle a bolt plenty fast and never take my eyes off the target so I fail how some one would have to fumble with a bolt. If they do then they need to learn how to use a bolt action weapon.Every reason given for useing an AR described what any semi is used for so all they did is answer why use a seni not specifically why use an AR. Those answered seemed more like a tap dance around the real answer. They look bad ass and we feel bad ass using them. That is an answer I could live with and I think Belo would have been good with that as well. Saying that the second question should have been a statement that no one should not be aloud to use those just means you are reading words into the post. How by reading can anyone think it is more then a simple question. Did he make statements against AR rifles? yes eventually but not until he was attacked and pushed. When he got what he felt was a good answer to his question he said thank and seemed to drop it yet others decided he ment more then he wrote and proded him. This derail has gone on far too long and feel we should just let it die so I will now bow out. I am sure we will find something else to argue about in no time at all.

  15. Welcome Angela, you found a great place for hunting advice. Got some very knowledgeable folks here who are always willing to help new hunters. As said above, this is kind of a down time for hunting most critters in NY. But it's a great time to get out and practice with your weapon of choice. Being new to the hunting game it's important to become very proficient with any and all of your hunting tools. Practice does make perfect. And just walking in the woods, learning to walk slowly and quietly, and to see critters before they see you is great practice. Through practice you will gain confidence, and gaining confidence in your hunting abilities is a big step in becoming a successful hunter.

  17. About 5 years ago, I dug through my ancient collection of broadheads and refurbished a half dozen of my rusty of Bear Razorheads, and took a nice doe with one just for the sake of satisfying some nostalgic need. Yes, they could be the one broadhead that has taken the biggest percentage of deer of all the broadheads ever invented. But anyway, the old Razorhead was the workhorse of bowhunting for a whole lot of years and still is a very capable broadhead.
