  5. I didn't carry the camera as much as I wanted to this past fall, but I did get a few new shots. Figured I'd post up some color since we're stuck in this white and brown pattern for a few months yet.

  7. Back in the day, I used to drag 'em out for the old guys. Now I IS the old guys..If I am hunting alone and can't the machine close to 'em, I don't shoot 'em.. One exception is the place I hunt in PA...It's downhill all the way to the truck.

  10. The altitude sickness can be punishing. Machu Picchu isn't that bad because it's only 6K feet. Cusco is where you'll most likely be staying (closest big city to Machu Picchu) is the problem. It's over 11K feet. Kicked my butt. Guinea Pig taste fine. Sort of like squirrel. It's the skin I don't like. A bit slimy. If you're not into it and just want to sort of "dip your toes" into it, have it chicharron style. That's when they chop it up into cubes, batter it then deep fry it. You won't know it's guniea pig at that point. When in Peru, make sure you get a chance to go to Puno and visit the Uro people on Lake Titicaca. It's an entire village that floats in the lake. It's equally if not more impressive than Machu Picchu. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. Went 0 for 3 on cottontails this morning. I never got a shot but the other guys missed. Best part was the dog got on his first rabbit. He was whining while on the track and then he started yipping and then that awesome beagle howl. He is getting better each time we go out.

  17. I noticed my scope mounts were slowly creeping back so when I cleaned my 795 the other day I lock-tited the bolt threads. I figured while I was taking it to the range to get a -fresh zero I would do my son's as well as he has missed a dozen shots in a row. WOW! I don't know if he dropped his rifle or what but it went from being dead-nuts accurate at 50 yards to nearly 18 inches off. So after remounting his scope and sighting it in I finally got these results at 50 yards. Left to right... 1 shot, 1 shot, 4 shot group. So after getting the kids rifle all set, I figured I would do mine. Surprising how much just moving the rings back 1/5 of an inch will make a difference. At the end of the day I ended up with these results. Left to Right 1 shot, 2, 3, 4, 10 shot groups. It looks like the difference between an 18 inch barrel (mine) and a 22 inch barrel (the kids) is VERY significant! The kid has challenged me to hit a dime at 100 yards so we are going back to the range in the morning... and then out to put a few more squirrels and rabbits in the freezer. Anyone interested in hitting up Three Rivers tomorrow and / or Sunday with me?

  21. Strange that it still isn't on their web site. It's quite a neat story; the thing about it is that they aren't athletes, FAR from it! One guy weighed in at 470lbs, another at 340 and the last one was 200 when they left. They said "we were the laziest guys for 20 years; playing video games and watching movies. We're not the active type" They started walking around the neighborhood and started to loose weight and feel better. Then they got an idea almost as big as them, "hey, why not walk to LA from Buffalo?" With little to no preparation, they took off. Pushing modified baby strollers to hold their gear they headed out......... They haven't finished yet but should in a couple months. Too bad it isn't available on line, I thought it was great.

  24. FYI, NRA weekend is Feb. 13-14 at Cabela's . Sign up or renew your membership to the NRA & get a $25 Cabela's gift card! Support our 2nd amendment.! You don't have to agree with Everything they say, but at least the magazines keep you up to date with what's going on with the people trying to take away our rights! I also just read in one of my magazines (can't find the exact quote but something like this) "That if All the legal gun owners in NY state would vote against Hillary, it would screw up the electoral vote & she could not get in office." lets do it!

  28. Always know how to get a group on your side. I enjoy the big city, visit it at least once a year to see my friends. But with all the money in the world I wouldn't call it home. Please understand that we're all different. I enjoy a big piece of land for my family to enjoy. You can enjoy your easy access. I will enjoy my freedom to carry a firearm and you can enjoy endless entertainment options. There is no right or wrong place to call home.

  30. I didn't read all of these posts but wanted to add my tips from my 795. Yes clean your gun correctly. For some reason the 795 is more picky about ammo than the model 60 is. I had to send mine in because after a couple of mags it wouldn't fire. They polished the bolt and it's an amazing gun. Shoots smooth tight groups now! Especially if you have a newer 795 made by Remington I would recommend polishing the bolt. The type of ammo you shoot is going to make a world of difference in any 22. Cheap Remington rounds are going to float all over the place. I hunt with norma tac-22 high performance rounds. Even though they are lead slugs they come coated in bore butter. They will drill tacks at 100+ yards. Most importantly the powder burns clean. That in my opinion is the biggest impactor with any semi-auto 22. Keep the inside clear of powder so the bolt can reseat properly and they will fire so much better. I love these Marlins. I've owned them for the past 20 years. I have a 99, 2 60's, 70, and 795. all different years. You can spend a full day at the range or shooting woodchucks with them without a problem if you run good rounds out of them. Put cheap dirty bullets in them and they'll jam every mag and shoot like crap. IMO CCI's are the most cost effective balance for a full day of shooting. The powder is clean enough and they are a copper round that seems to leave the micro grooved barrel clean enough. Good luck and have fun!

  36. Although Hoppe's will clean copper, it's more of a carbon solvent than it is for copper. If you've shot over 500 rounds and only took 8 patches to clean, you either have a really good barrel, or didn't clean it enough. Try soaking a patch with solvent and leave it there for 10-15 mins, and then run a dry patch and see what the color is. Hoppe's a very mild solvent and take its time to do its work. 38. Danno, I am working on a draft for a custom pot call display as we speak. Pretty much have the design down, just have to get it into production. My computer desk has a couple of shelves that I store my box calls in. Have a total of 8 so far and a couple of them have been built for me by a good friend of mine from Wisconsin. These are my go to box calls during the spring season.

  41. Good thought, Rob, and I have been considering a shelf.... Actually, I have one that would work well... Back in the 1930s, my great grandfather came into possession of some black walnut, and decided that he would build his own coffin from it. Lo and behold, the old gent kicked the bucket before he got the coffin finished. I am not sure WHAT he got buried in. However, my grandfather's brother ( my great uncle) took pieces of the walnut lumber and built shelves out of it, and gave a shelf to each member of the family. I have the shelf that was given to my paternal grandfather, who probably never even saw a wild turkey, since he died in 1967... It may just be a very fitting way to display my box calls..

  45. Still trying to drop one more red fox and another yote before it's over, then I'll really start hunting for antlers unless we get snowed in again. Killing one more of each targeted k-9 would go a long way at boosting my confidence as an effective predator killer, and not just a fluke "one kill wonder".
