  4. Not much of a story for mine really. Got in my stand yesterday at around 6:40 and then I turned around at 7:30 and saw a doe right behind me. By the time I got up and turned around, it was very very slightly quartering away and I let her have it. Didn't go but 50 yards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Thanks everyone! I'm going to wait and let Dalo tell her side of the story and give the weights and measurements, but I can't hold off any longer with some pics! All I can say is, for as much fun as we were having BEFORE the turkeys showed up, we should have absolutely, positively, not even seen a SONGBIRD let alone kill two nice gobblers to top things off! Hands down this turned out to be my most cherished hunt I'll likely EVER have! Just an amazing day to share a blind with sis! HUGE congrats to you Dalo, and I can't wait to see that bad boy stuffed on your wall! Thanks for the great hunt sis and I can't wait till you do it again this deer season!

  7. Sitting on the edge of my property where it begins to open up into nice mature hardwoods, with thick bedding behind me and a swamp to my right. Was checking the live from the woods out at like 6 thinking I'm the only person looking at his phone at this perfect hunting time. So I put the phone away and a minute later I heard a branch crack back in the thick stuff. U could here each step and finally I could see a deer emerge about 75 yards away. Through all the branches I could see it was a buck so I got ready. He was walking right at me and started to turn down a path that would give me a 25 yard shot. Then he fed back in my direction coming straight at my tree. I sized up his rack and decided if I got a shot I would take it. Well he was walking straight at me and turned when he was 5 yards away and just stopped and was checking the wind. I figured it was now or never, I put the top pin on the top half of his shoulder. I've never shot at a deer this close, I was also 25ft up my tree. I shot and watched my arrow with nocturnal glowing run away. I watched the nocturnal as he went crashing through this thick brush and at about 50 yards away. I then saw the glowing nock on the ground and figured that's where my arrow fell out. Went back to the house got the 4 wheeler and kids and came back to track an hour later. No blood from where I shot him so we all went in the direction he ran. Then I could see the glow from the nock and yelled I found the arrow, I shined my light on it and yelled it's still attached to the deer! Dead at 50 yards. Arrow penetrated the should through a lung and into the top of the heart. Heads goin to a buddy's house to get the skull bleached.

  8. Well, after many years after my first doe at 16 with my bow I finally got a buck with the bow. (20+ years later) I had lost a buck a few years back, shoulder hit that didn't penetrate, and finally this guy which was not a perfect shot. It was a littler far back and was either because of nerves or a small branch but leaning toward nerves had a ton of time. But I found him finally. Not a monster but pretty solid for my first bow buck. Also the first deer I caped myself. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

  9. You rock sis! I never imagined hunting with you would be this much damn fun! Hell, I was ready to go kill some squills and I think I mentioned that a time or three, lol Our set up was kinda goofy. I brought and set up 2 jakes and a hen deke just 5 yds out the blind window. I spotted those birds coming in from 50yds away, but they got spooky when they hit 20yds but sis couldn't get a shot and I wouldn't let her move since I could see from my seat but she couldn't. We let out some crazy calls before hand on the new pot call sis bought before season. She was learning to call, and I was bored so excited cutts, yelps, and clucks where what we hit them with. We basically used full blown spring tactics to kill these two fall birds. I know that's not how you're supposed to hunt them in the fall, but it kept things fun and interesting... not to mention successful! Pretty sure you guys know by now how I kinda like to try different off the wall tactics to see what kind of results I get. Both birds were full of wild grapes or blueberry looking fruits. I don't know what they were, or where they found them on the property but they were practically falling out their beaks. I still haven't measured mine up. It's just not important to me at this point. He was much lighter than dalos bird, but that's the only one that really matters to me. I was getting real bored with hunting. Now I just think I was getting real bored with hunting ALONE! I'm excited to have a student so eager to listen, learn, and experiment the way baby sis does. I's so happy she was rewarded with the prettiest one of the flock!

  10. Ok Guys here's Wooly and my crazy turkey hunt this morning! We start off nice and early hoping for the best, get situated in the blind and heck have a few snacks!! We were sitting out there about alil over a hour or so and Wooly was getting antsy, we weren't seeing anything yet keeping each other pretty entertained playing around with the turkey calls. About another hour or so goes by and Wooly says he sees turkeys coming in. I was kicked back in the blind like I was lounging in my lazyboy!! It wasn't a good shot for me where they were so he helps me get the gun out the other window of the blind, I was tipped in my seat chair going sideways and finally get a chance for a shot... bam! the shot went off and I got him tipping back in the chair onto my brother with excitement!!! I did my ritual pummeling him with hugs practically knocking him over!! I said OMG I got him lets go get him, Wooly then says hey I can one too!!! Since there were 4 in the flock that came in 2 headed up the ridge and 1 headed down around to the front of us.... that was his moment to get one too! My shot was at about 20 yards or so.... I ended up with a beautiful tom with a 8 1/2" beard 1" spur weighing in at 19lbs!! I can only thank wooly for another amazing hunt today, without him I wouldn't have been out there having a fantastic time and making another great memory for our books!!! We took him off to the taxidermist for a awesome wall mount to be proud of for my living room wall, I'll always look at him now on the wall thinking of our great fall turkey hunt!! Thanks a million bro I love our adventures and can't wait for deer season to start so we can do it up all over again!!

  14. No hunting for me today. Working 2nd shift this week so if I get any hunting done at all it will be morning hunts. But with all next week off and temps look to be dropping next week I think I'm gonna let all my stands rest and hit it hard next week. Let's see if I can resist the temptation to hunt lol Went atv riding with some guys from work yesterday afternoon while the weather was real warm. Had a awesome time riding around the mountains. Drank a couple cold ones and enjoyed some delicious venison burgers for a late lunch by a remote pond. And I didn't bust anything up on my wheeler which makes the trip itself a success! Haha. Here's a couple pics I snapped during the day. Wish I could've got more but it's not easy to work the phone and keep up with the others lol https://vimeo.com/187740285 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. my cousin used one and it worked great on one deer. Followed the string right to her. Then a buck came is a few days later and the arrow made it about half way to the deer and the arrow flipped in mid air and snapped off the string. appeared to be knotted up inside the spool.

  20. Brings back memories and making me smile of when my daughter first started tagging along with me while bowhunting. At first, I wasn't sure how she would feel about me shooting a doe or fawn. Our first time out, 2 fawns walked up to within 15 yards of us and I had no desire to shoot either of them. All I kept hearing was her whispering, "Shoot 'em Dad.... Shoot 'em!" I got giggling so hard at her, then she started! I got laughing so hard that couldn't draw my bow back! Those two dumb fawns just stood there staring at us the whole time though! Enjoy your daddy-daughter times in the field with her!

  22. Doubled up with a buddy in central NY Saturday. Hunted with my dog Maizy, she did great again, no problem finding birds and getting them up in the air. My buddy's bird died 25 feet up in a tree, we had to go back with a ladder to get it out, it was the bird's final F U moment, LOLOL. Maizy just gets better and better each time we hunt, she's sitting good with me and I don't have to bring her back to the truck after she breaks birds. Looking forward to the PA, NJ, and VA fall seasons next!!

  24. Passed on a huge male bear that came up behind me and to my left while walking up the mountain... Maybe 400 lbs. at 25 yards... I was just too far in to even think about getting him out of the woods. Talk about an itchy trigger finger!! Trophy bear with round ball? My God I wanted to shoot him soo badly, but it just wasn't the right time. I must admit too... I was ready to shoot him.. then he stopped behind two trees and gave me a second to think about it... after making the decision to pass I got a bit nervous when he hung around for a minute or so that close. He moved on however without ever knowing I was there.

  25. Had a few flocks pass overhead just before the big "hunters moon" rose three nights ago. 100+ honkers EASILY.... maybe even 200+ total but I wasn't counting as they came in waves. They all landed in that new winter wheat field I asked about the other day. Pitching down into the field against a painterly autumn backdrop. Wish I had been a little closer and had better light for this shot. Really made me wish I was a goose hunter at the moment! Edit to add- southern Erie County

  27. Yes, but I feel that full inclusion should have been passed last year. I also feel that ANYONE, hunting with a crossbow should have to take the Bowhunters Safety Course. Being a long time bowhunter I do understand both sides of the crossbow debate. But they are here to stay and I've learned to accept that and even hunt with one myself.

  34. Saturday 10/15: In the stand and setup by 6:20 waiting for legal shooting light. It was a perfect morning with temp at 29 degrees and a very light steady wind. Got the ozonics pointed at my 2 o'clock. It took until about 8:15 to catch movement and see my first deer of the morning. I got the Binos up quick enough to see what I believe was a 3 pt with very dark antlers about 75 yds away moving through the woods. My Dad got me a new pair of Nikon Acculon 10x50s for Christmas last year. I thought they would be too big but they don't bother me at all with a harness. How I hunted all these past years with my $29 Bushnells I don't know. Good binoculars was an investment I should have made a long time ago. I would have never known what the deer was with out them. This was the first buck i have seen on stand this year. I tried throwing the kitchen sink at him trying to get him to come in but he would have none of it and quickly disappeared out of site.(I don't believe the ozonics played any role in this siting) About 9:30 I decided to do a rattle and grunt sequence so I stood up and made some noise. I looked behind me in the stand and see what I think is a deer a good distance away so I get up the Bino's and it is a lone doe looking right at me. She decides she doesn't want to investigate and leaves immediately. (I again believe the ozonics had no effect on this siting) I sit back down mad at myself that the deer caught me moving so much in my stand. Start posting on the live thread and as I am writing I look up to see a deer headed down the top of the ridge toward me on my left side. I cast my phone aside, stand up and grab my bow. I quickly realize it is momma and fawn that I believe I have encountered (and let walk) before. At about 20 yds they cross right in front of my stand slowly browsing to my right about 15-20 yds away. They cross where my ozonics is pointed (about 2 o'clock) without incident. When momma gets to about 3 o'clock she looks right at me. Her Fawn is still about 2 o'clock and should be in the ozone stream. Momma and I have a staring contest for what seems like forever, I am trying not to even blink and I can see her trying to smell me. She starts playing the game where she goes back to feeding only to snap her head back up and stare at me. Finally she makes the decision that I am nothing and momma and baby go about their business feeding down past me. As soon as they are behind my tree and I can move I test the wind and it is going exactly where the ozonics is pointed. Now before I say the ozonics worked I have to say that I believe with the rising temps that thermals were most likely in my favor and it is very possible, maybe even probable that my scent would not have been reaching them even without the ozonics. What I will draw from this conclusion though is that since ozone is 30% heavier than the atmosphere that the deer had to have crossed the ozone path although I am not sure how I would prove that. So twice now while I believe thermals were in my favor both times, I have had this momma and fawn, I believe they are the same deer walk through my ozone stream and have no adverse reaction. I waited about 30 minutes to make sure momma and fawn were moved out and packed it in for the moring. Sunday 10/16: Back in the saddle again by about 6:20 all setup and waiting on shooting light. Temp is 20 degrees warmer than Saturday at 49 degrees. It is breezy and i have my ozonics pointed down wind at about 9 O'clock. At about 8 am I catch movement and bring up the binos to see a large doe that looks to be alone off my 1 o'clock. When it gets to about 40-50 yds I stand up and grab my bow. I have a clump of trees that I can't see through in this position but I am expecting her to come out the other side about 35 yds away and if she stays on the path she was on she should cross my stand at about 25 yds at 4 o'clock position. She never shows on the other side of the clump of trees. Damn teleporting deer...she just disappeared. I figure she either bedded down or walked directly away keeping the clump of trees between us. At about 10am I catch movement again at about my 1 o'clock position and looking through the bino's I see a lone big doe that I believe is the same deer I saw earlier. It must have bedded and now it is up or it just came back. Or I guess it is possible that it is a different deer. I am watching about 75 yds away milling around not really getting any closer or farther away. A few minutes later I catch another deer coming in from my left, pretty quickly crossing in front of my stand about 40 yds out. I assume it is going to meet up with the doe but it doesn't. It slows down and starts browsing at about my 2 o'clock and slowly works its way around me on my right never coming closer than about 40 yds. At this point I am wondering if the single doe is momma that I have been seeing and this deer that was coming around me was her fawn. When I have seen them previously the momma was very dark and the fawn was light brown and this deer was light brown. I was having a hard time telling size without the mother right next to her so I couldn't be sure. At this point I have to leave to get to coach my daughters soccer team but I don't want to blow these deer out of here. I wait another 15 minutes after not seeing either of them and at this point if I don't leave right this second I am going to be late for the game. I sneak down as quietly as possible and literally try to tip toe through dry crunchy leaves. I make it about 40 yds from my stand and I see the deer standing looking at me about 35 yds away. The wind is in my favor and it just bounds off. At this point I am just glad I didn't get busted sitting on my stand, stop being quiet and high tailed it out of there to make it to soccer just as the game was about to start. I don't believe the ozonics played any roll in any deer seen today. I guess this is basically becoming my season journal. Hope you guys don't mind....

  45. 10/14 - I received a call this afternoon from a hunter who reported shooting a doe last night with his crossbow. He tracked her across a long field, then stopped when she went into some thick stuff. He went back this morning and slowly advanced the track, then marked last blood and called me when he could know longer follow it. Luna followed the track to the hunters point of loss and was just starting to go beyond when she shut right down. It was like a switch had been turned and she refused to go further. It was when she started licking her paw that I realized she had picked up a ton of burrs in all of them. I informed the hunter I was going to pull the plug and take Luna home. He was very gracious, understanding completely. While removing the burrs I discovered Luna had cut a paw and earned herself a couple days off. I received a call from the hunter a few hours later informing me he had found the doe about 150 yards from where we stopped. I really like how this determined, ethical hunter never gave up or had the "it's just a doe" attitude that is sometimes seen. Sent from my iPhone
