  2. Luna and I would like to thank everyone that gave us the opportunity to track for them this season. We ended up finding 12 deer and 1 bear. We'll be training hard in the off season and hope to do even better next year. Merry Christmas everyone!

  3. Filled another tag with a good doe, roughly 115-120lbs, shot her at 25 yds, shot her Monday, opening day of BP season... It was a blood trail Stevie Wonder could have followed.. LOL Took my old T/C Omega out for a change, 250 grain T/C Shockwave over 80 grains of Black Horn 209... Freezer is now full, time to relax and start planning for turkey season... LOL

  7. As gross as your scenario is...and it is...it could be worse. Imagine my horror to I discover, when my wife nonchalantly admitted to me, the long straight hair on my mustache/beard trimmer came from her using it on her little lap dogs, to trim around their privates and back sphincter! : 0

  8. All thanks should go to you and Luna, for the time, dedication, and talent you both have. And for helping hunters you have never met. The service you provide to hunters is worth so much more than any dollar amount. I'd like to congratulate you and Luna on a spectacular season! I have followed this thread all year, and I'm so impressed with what you two do as a team. May you both have a warm Christmas season and a Happy tracking New Year!

  10. Wolc , I'm scratching my head here. Head shots on squirrels "unethical " but Texas heart shots on deer ok. But good luck with the tree rats. I'll be out tomorrow to try for another deer for as long as I can sit before freezing out

  11. Well I'm in the woods in my dads blind less than 100yds from where he passed a very long couple days ago. I couldn't take being home anymore. The amount of love our family has received both at home and on here has been truly amazing. My wife and mom couldn't believe it when I told them I was coming out and when I asked my brother he said he just couldn't. Between being cooped up these last couple days and the fact that dad would be pissed if I missed a day of hunting because of him I had to get out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. Winter wonderland today for a couple hours after work today nestled on the ground with my Muzzleloader up against the edge of some pines where they meet the woods. Had some fresh tracks in snow in front of the pines and passed on a nice mature doe at 40 yds Wednesday afternoon here, hoping a buck was following. She may not get a pass today.

  13. Congrats Grizz. I had a nice trail last weekend to follow. Funny because I said the same thing about Stevie Wonder.

  14. Well tomorrow I am getting a voluntary layoff for 4 to 8 weeks. My machine broke down and I figured with winter duties my boy not doing so hot in school and my trap line I could use the time home even if only a month or so. Sat I gotta go to Buffalo to christmas shop and get truck undercoated starting sunday am I'll be out sun up to sundown for the remainder of season then grab dad's sled from canandaigua and start breaking trail for my line. As of now I'm just under 3 foot on top of hill so outta be an interesting season. Hopefully sat weather melts it down some and I can get trail packed down enough for quad to run it decently. Good luck to the rest going out for remainder of deer and other targets. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

  17. Just get a big dog, they will figure out who's in charge. We have a male adult cat that is an asshole. When we got out puppy they avoided each other for the first month fought for a couple weeks and are now best friends but the 150lb dog knows if the cat wants his spot on the couch it's best to give it to him. 18. I usually carry my Dad's 50 year old Randall knife that he used on many of his hunts that he went on. He used it when he was up in the Yukon when he shot a large Grizzly, a 62" Moose, and a full curl Dahl sheep. Dad has passed on physically, but he is with me in spirit when I go out in the woods. The picture of the knife also has another toy in it a new Kel-Tec (haven't shot it yet).

  19. My father/best friend is gone. Wow what a roller coaster, I still feel like I'm living a nightmare. It's been almost 24hrs and still doesn't seem possible. My father has been suffering from leukemia for about 6 years now although no one other than close family knew that. At 55 He was in better shape than most men 1/2 his age still jogging nearly every day. Yesterday started out as a totally normal day for us, my brother and I met for coffee and dads house at 5 "brother lives next door to my parents I live within 30-30 range." With our coffee I argued with dad about what stand he was going to hunt and why he was dumb to not to be in this one and that no I wasn't sitting until 9! The same thing we did everyday my brother just sat across the table throwing verbal jabs at both of us just to keep me and dad going. We talked on the phone a couple times throughout the morning. I was still hunting as he was bouncing from stand to stand in case I bumped anything. Around 10:30 he shot a doe we kept hunting until around 11:30 when my brother and I met him at the end of the blood trail and helped dad gut his doe. After the gutting job was done we were talking as dad was looking at what she had been eating. And he went down with no warning landing on top of his recently killed doe with my brother and I on either side of him. We got him off the deer and we were yelling at him trying to get him to wake up but he wouldn't I told my brother to call 911 while I was trying to give dad sternum rubs trying to get him to wake up. My brother went to the road to meet the ems while I stayed with dad. It felt like forever but about 5 minutes into it all Dad took his last labored breath. I started CPR immediately and continued for the 20 minutes until ems and Fire got there although looking back I don't think it was a heart attach as everything leads to a stroke. My father was the most dedicated hunter I have ever known he bordered on being over the top. He hunted everyday of the season morning and night. Dad always said he wanted to go while hunting and never wanted to be in a hospital. My brother and I have been crying and laughing since it's all happened, you couldn't make this stuff up. He literally died on a doe he had killed with his 2 boys on either side in the woods. He never stayed 1 day in a hospital or missed 1 thing he wanted to do do to his health. Although he went 40 years sooner than we all had hoped I couldn't be more thankful for how he went. When they finally got him out of the woods and had him in the ambulance my mom, sister in law and wife were there and they let us say good bye to him in the ambulance he looked so at peace. Him laying on that stretcher with his camo bibs button up wool shirt and laccrose rubber boots damn near with a smile on his face was the saddest thing I have ever saw but it also has really put me at peace knowing that we never get to pick when or how our last day is but damn I feel like he got to pick how. I'm sorry you guys are reading this but it is truly helping me just by being able to type this out and put my thoughts out there, thank you all for the support I have gotten this season as many of you have already reached out to me with thoughts and prayers. Some of you guys I consider good friends even if we have never met. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. 3N: Dad texted me he saw a big spike at 3pm (95yds), he's hunting with xbow but he wouldn't have shot it anyway since he's holding out for something bigger.

  21. Holy typos in article Batman. Singe antlered deer. How about single. This was the deer from another thread the other day by Paula wasn't it ? Well dang , I sat for 6 hours in 10 degrees and saw nothing I could have gone deer hunting in Manhattan and then met up with Biz .

  23. Same with me Dan and I have not been without one since that time A lot of hunters use these Airedales for varmints below is a photo I pulled from a video of an Airedale named "Earl" going under a windfall and pulling out a wounded Coyote, a pretty tough job to say the least. Al

  25. no i hunt in 4 b . i dont use a muzzloader much i have 360acres of land that only me and a cop and his father hunt so the deer are everywhere right now. And this snow just makes it better because they are all herded up...the deer pretty much use the same run to a crick bed everyday at 730ish.. And if we dont hunt on the weekends the neighboring property just pushes more deer on to ours. Thats why we have so many tresspassers

  26. Hmm, and in my limited interactions with Uptown, I thought he (or she) was a hunter that just had a liberal leaning mindset of which I'm tolerant of as I respect most people's opinions even if it doesn't match my own. So just a troll to rile people up after all...

  31. Thanks for the tip on the CVA Wolf. I picked one up last week after swearing to not monkey around with muzzle loaders anymore. I had miserable times with my past rifles trying to get them on target, and cleaning was a nightmare. The Wolf I find extremely easy to clean and service with it's break open design. Also, after I was unable to purchase Triple 7 50/50, I had to decide either to switch up to 120 grains or down to 90 grains, and bought both 50/30 and 50/60 Triple 7. Ultimately, I opted to switch up to 120 grains. Although the Powerbelt bullets don't seem to get much positive review here, it is what I had already purchased so I went with them. 120 grains, 50 caliber Powerbelt 245 grain hollow points, with three shots at 75 yards because I won't go beyond that distance where I will be hunting. First two shots high, adjust down 12 clicks and third shot is dead center. Happy!

  32. My wife wants me to be done, but I might have to give it one last go on Tuesday. Not that I am desperate for another deer, but after that we won't be able to go out for a solid nine months. That is forever long all spelled out like that.

  33. Got a big doe last year with crossbow. 154lbs. weighed . My hunting partner shot a bigger one ten years or so ago that was noticeably bigger! But we never put her on the scale. It was early season and warm so she was cut up right away. But I'd be comfortable saying she weighed close to 170lbs!

  34. Ah...OK! I lasted a total of 1 1/2 hours before I tossed in the towel. The wind was cutting my face, my nose formed snot-cicles, and I resorted to jumping once more into the "Rat Mobile" to escape the cold and wind. As I stood there peering out, I got to thinking; "do I really want to gut a deer in this?, or, "God forbid I have to track one, do I want to do it in this weather?". Answer was a resounding "NO", and back to the house I slogged, through thigh deep drifts the entire way to the creek. Then balanced against the wind, I walked the 40 foot I beam that is suspended high above the creek, that serves as my bridge. Now back at the house and out of my hunting clothes, its time for some coffee, and listening to the wind howl away, happy with my decision to call it quits for the day.

  35. I know! Every year or so I'm like "Oh hell I'm just done with this". Basically I am sick of the maintenance stuff I do at work; I only enjoy working on new projects. But then I step back and realize I am legitimately needed. If I join a new company it could take a long time before I really matter. I won't lose my job unless I surf nudey sites at work. Strong company, singularly responsible for several important systems at a not-outrageous pay rate. Very stable, but it does also breed some lethargy as well. Some of y'all may enjoy this: I applied for a job at Paychex recently and HR actually sent me something for a "virtual interview". Basically it involves a warm body at HR who doesn't know what he's looking at when he sees my resume, so to click through on his productivity numbers he refers my name/email to a third party that they work with. This third party then conducts a virtual interview, which consists of me being asked by a computer, remotely, several questions and I then answer them into a webcam. This company then owns video of me (there is no other on the entire internet), and I don't even know if Paychex even has a position--because like I said, just a warm body at HR clicking things. Also, this third party has an algorithm that can apparently rate people without even having to watch the video, thus grading me without even having some bored HR person watch the vid. Anyway I thought it was interesting because it reflects very badly on a very well rated company. I did not take the interview and did not get back to HR @ Paychex and do not intend on applying for another job there, either. I am at a senior level and don't really want to waste my time with shenanigans like that. I would if I was out of work (maybe), but if they think people are going to leave decent jobs to jump through stupid hoops like a dog at a circus they may leave a bad taste in some people's mouths.

  39. So sometimes I'll clear some paths in our yard for Maizy. Oops forgot about her chewed up soccer ball in the yard. Snowblower sucked it up very nicely I gotta say. It lodged in chute and auger. Do not ever put your hands in there if something gets stuck. It has memory and auger will roll back removing fingers. I managed to free it with a big azz stick before it froze in solid. #I'madumbazz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  40. He shot it after I quit for the day and called saying he couldn't lift it in the truck. I thought he was joking. That a good size buck around here.

  41. you both make a good team. 12 deer and a bear is still a heck of a season. even more people got piece of mind knowing their deer would make it given the tracking. others is just tough luck and maybe should practice shooting during the off season as much as you and luna practice tracking. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you before the mild weather returns.

  42. How did you do? I had an incredible hunt. Still hunted in snow camo quartering the wind...had a 130 class 10 point in my scope at 50 yards. Couldn't shoot, tagged out. He was with a 2.5 eight point and a 2.5 spike. I had to laugh that the spike and the eight point were the same size. The 10 point dwarfed them. I have 2, 130- class 10 points...so I know what they look like. The eight got spooked and caught my scent...the three ran only 75 yards...I moved on them again. They did not want to run...stood in the thick stuff but were totally baffled by my snow camo and quartering the wind. I know it is fashionable to only have one buck per hunter per year...and we have two. But what about three? Bow, rifle and muzzleoader? Now I have to get some trail cam shots of him while I am stuck with my antlerless only tag. Not complaining! At least I can hunt.

  44. Thanks again, the VX2 does looks very good indeed. I just wondered if i could get a decent scope for a bit less than my budget I could use the money towards better mounts and rings etc. Also after a bit more research I feel the best option is to go for a Vortex Crossfire 2, it ticks so many of my boxes, it has a lifetime warranty like leupold and after reading multiple reviews on it many reviewers have said it has the quality of a scope in a much higher price range than it. So yeah i think this is it, I just wanted to get your opinions on it before i push the buy button.

  45. Lol. Had to do the same thing years ago. Should of seen the look on my mothers face when she came home to see me and my dad carving away at a 6 pointer hanging from the beam in the living room. She wasn't thrilled. We were at least nice enough to put a tarp down to catch the blood and stuff! Lol
