However, teaching still offers that one opportunity to turn me back into the a school kid finding out we have been blessed with an unexpected day off! Be saw out there if you are working tomorrow-I will be home (grading papers) but in my pjs at least!

  6. 29 - Current progress. Now for a lot of hands on work that I couldn't document: Insert ear liners in butts, adjust all the skin, staple hide to the back of form, cut off excess hide, sew up the incision from antler based to neck. Fine tune eyes and everything else that needs it 30 through 32 - The mount is finished at this point. It needs to dry for about two weeks. For the next several days I will keep a close eye on it to make sure things don't move out of position as everything dries I will update with the finishing process in a couple of weeks!!!

  8. Here's a quick run through of the step by step process of mounting a deer. 1 - Find a NY monster 2 - Kill him, cape him and sent the cape to be tanned Cape Prep: 3 & 4- Remove inner ear cartilage 5 & 7 - Thin the lips, eyes and nostrils with a leather shaving tool. The thinner the better to reduce shrinkage as the skin dries out. Oops...skipped 6 but it's wash the cape. 8 & 9 - Inspect for damage and repair any holes from arrows, bullets, skinning, fleshing, scars, etc... 10 - Materials to be added to the form

  11. Of course he should have returned the deer. Pretty sad that he would want to keep it. Why would I want to keep a deer another hunter killed. I would have called immediately to let you know I found your buck. Come get it! And congratulations. Not gray at all in my opinion.

  13. Got the shot in December. Got the flu, the end of January. Being diabetic, my Dr. "highly" recommends, the flu shot each year and the pneumonia shot every three years. Sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't. As over the years, I have had both. So I asked him why bother with the shots. He told me without the shots, my chances were good I'd come down with both "every" year. And that the years when I got the flu, there is the possibility it was a different strain than the one I was immunized for. I'm beginning to think it's all a bunch of hooey! One thing for sure, no one gets out of this world alive........

  14. Sorry nothing new here as Socrates stated back before even Doc was born I believe .( I'm just kidding) . Socrates (469–399 B.C.) QUOTATION: The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

  16. I have used only 2 scopes on my shotguns over the years...Both were early 1970s vintage El Paso steel tubed weavers, one in 1.5X and the other in 2.5X... Rugged scopes you could drive a truck over and they would still function. In my opinion, a straight 4X, while being an excellent all around rifle scope, is a bit high powered for a shotgun being used in close cover..The lower powered scopes have a definite advantage at ranges of 100 yards or less, ESPECIALLY if the target is moving..

  20. Its good to see you show how little you really know about a subject... Few if any large box stores will order you ammo. With a few exceptions of quick selling popular calibers.... If you thier suppier can even get it. Try and go buy a specific .22lr pic a brand and product line... forget it.. not going to happen. Try to buy an older caliber like 250 savage, 218 bee... not going to happpen. Try to buy somethinh thats dropped in popularity such as a Ruger short mag... Not happening. Try this one out... go to a major retailer big box like a walmart... Buy a rifle in 44mag or 45 long colt, then as they finish the transaction tell them to add a couple of boxes of shells.... They ask for your pistol permit and wont sell you the ammo without it ( true story). Uptown you really need to get out of your moms basement and see what is really going on outside... you might be suprised. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

  26. I was 24 ten years ago. I had a 20ga browning for deer, cheap remington slugs were $1.99. I had a remington. 22, a brick of 500 .22's were I think $10... now I have many more calibers and 2 kids and a wife. YOU have to be STUPID to not want the best deal on anything when shopping.

  27. Alexander Bell was met with opposition when he first invented the telephone. People thought Elvis Presley and Rock and Roll was going to destroy society. And now people are saying the same about the internet and cell phones. Yet now kids in the United States can collaborate and share ideas with another kid living in Europe. It's not all bad. The only difference is that technology is changing so rapidly compare to decades ago that people are not given as much time to adjust to it. I mean, we're here arguing about cellphones and other technologies yet, many of us are probably on our phones reading this thread and communicating with hunters that they would otherwise never ever communicate with without this technology. As far as kids having cell phones. My nieces have iPhones and my brother insists that they have the Find Friends feature installed and linked to his phone at all times otherwise their phone gets taken away. Now my brother simply has to check his phone and he'll know exactly where they are at any time. I'd say that's pretty useful tool.

  34. Buying on line opens up the whole county's supply to you , not just what the local, stores have . It's often cheaper , then of course it's easier . Try running down to Wal Mart and grabbing a few boxes of 25-20 . How else has the safe act impacted me ? Well I can no longer use the standard capacity mags for many of my hand guns. When one has 5 - 10 mags for each gun that can add up . Its a royal pain to sell a used gun in a private sale, and it costs more to,do,so . I may or may not have guns that end with me, that is they can't be passed on . i also have to report any theft or loss of ammo,so now when I drop a .22 shell in the snow I have to call the state Police to report that . i will say it's been great for the 80% lower maket , there are many guys building their own AR's and Glocks with these , totally off the books , no seriel numbers , not registered in any way . You can't stop the signal .

  35. I dont know about that. I was always against kids having phones until they were of driving age, but I finally let my 12 year old daughter have one, and it helps out alot with things. You just have to be a parent, set limits and keep an eye on what they are doing, just like anything else.

  38. Yea lets see how many Libtards would come forward and "adopt" a refugee. Take them into their homes and feed , put clothes on their backs, educate and take care of when sick. And no government freebies either. If they feel so strongly and love them, let the left take care of everything they need. Maybe Chuck Schumer could start a "Adopt a Refugee Program" Come on libtards, start making phone calls!

  40. There is a guy at work that is out for a week every year and he swears is from the flu shot. haha
    2 points
  41. Popular myth. MYTH: You can catch the flu from the vaccine. The vaccine is made from an inactivated virus that can't transmit infection. So people who get sick after receiving a flu vaccination were going to get sick anyway. It takes a week or two to get protection from the vaccine. But people assume that because they got sick after getting the vaccine, the shot caused their illness.

  43. In the years to come people will ask why our society went down the tubes and why the new generation has issues with personal interaction. Simply put these people are addicted to their phones and technology like no other generation was. We are basically breading mindless self centered individuals with limited ability to think for themselves, until they check the internet!? Just like the protesters for the pipeline that left the place they are trying to protect with more trash than it started with and say they are trying to save the planet? Mindless hypocrites that really have very little knowledge on protecting the environment. Unless you want them to protest and trash the area they fight to protect. How about you try and clean the rivers in your area? No they would rather protest online then actually help with any current issues! Sounds like we are breading liberals, lol. Not really that funny though as they will be running the country in the coming years. Time to start prepping, lol.

  47. There are three things I look for when putting a scope on a slug gun. First off because of the relatively short range slug guns are used I want a scope with as big of field of view as possible. The lower the power the more field of view there is so I personally prefer a 2.5X, a 3X or a 1X4 variable which is plenty of magnification for typical slug ranges. Also because of hefty recoil I like a scope with long eye relief. You do not want a scope that has to be close to your eye when sighting through it with a heavy recoiling gun. Back when I worked in the gun shop the number one destroyer of scopes was a slug gun's heavy recoil, cheap scopes and slug guns do not go together well, buy the very best quality scope you can afford. My current slug gun wears a Leupold 3X. Al
