  5. Here is an observation on older bucks.. My neighbor to the north sees small bucks and he doesn't understand that we see bigger bucks than he does .he starts a 8 point rule.. Still no seeing bigger bucks than he was before.. We have no rule but use cams to show us what's available and we try for top 3 or 4bucks. We can take a 120 plus in buck every year he sees on that side about ever 4 years.. He hunts out of tripods in open brush fields. We hunt in thick nasty stuff that maybe you can see past 30 yards.. We have 1900ft of boarder with him and deer cross back and forth.. His take..we need restrictions!! There are no big bucks... Our take.. No restrictions necessary.. We do fine. It's not about restrictions it's about learning to. Hunt an area properly waiting for what you want. Even small properties can hold mature bucks if the habitat is there that they require. Looking thru an open woods at 300 yards or across an open field will not yield the same results as hunting in areas larger buck will hold to.

  18. that's a good point too elmo. A mechanical is definitely not a good choice for stalking, and of course I hope all know it's also no good for the shoot through blinds. In summary. Deer are tough to kill. It amazes me sometimes what they can survive.

  26. I made spicy chicken fingers. Didn't take a pic. Have leftover tomato sauce and sausage slow cooked in the crock pot ( don't have a pic of that either ), wanted to have tomorrows dinner done tonight, so I can deal with the shoveling issues for the next couple days.

  28. At the very least, they should exempt first time hunters. We seem to stick our head in the sand that new hunters = young hunters. But the whole thing isn't a smart move either.

  29. SNOW DAY! I know I am opening up myself up to all that crap about unions, tenure, retirement, summers off, yadda, yadda , yadda! However, teaching still offers that one opportunity to turn me back into the a school kid finding out we have been blessed with an unexpected day off! Be saw out there if you are working tomorrow-I will be home (grading papers) but in my pjs at least!

  31. Turkeyfeathers, A few things. Frequent watering reduces yeild. It makes them root poorly and not a deeper root. Also, when I do water. I do not use a water hose. The cold 50 deg F water shocks the root system, again reducing yield. I fill the water up in a tub and let it heat up. My aunt used to fill tons of 1 gallon milk jugs and let them sit all over the garden. Mulch helps a ton too with temperature and moisture retention. Also, that mulch improves the soil after it's tilled in. A winter crop helps in gardens too. I mentioned magnesium content in my above post. A bit of epsom slat where you plant tomatoes goes a long way. Hunters and basic gardeners think N-P-K. There's alot of other things plants need, even if in minute amounts. Like boron for clover, we are talking needing a 1lb an acre a year. But, the results give the answer..... Speaking of minerals other than the big ones. I prefer ash over lime. IT adds alot of those trace minerals plants and animals need. Do half the plants one way, then do the other differently. My friend was shocked when he water one with cold and water one with warm.

  39. Your problem is poaching.. Why you dont report it is your business.. Ar would not change that as they would still kill the bucks.. As for your situation personally I can show you hundreds of hunters who have hunted the same piece of property for decades who bitch about there being no bucks.. While that brush draw they hunted 20 years ago has grown into a mature woods and the bucks are now on neighbors land using that clear cut to cruise for does.. Ar's will not solve that issue.. And unfortunately that is the case for many hunters.. On friend had same problem unroll he cut some timber and left tops.. Now deer are all over his place as he enjoys what the habitat can provide.

  46. Thats why i was looking at a 20g. I suppose if it kicked too hard I could give it a try. I think they are a really cool gun and always wanted one. Just a bucket list gun more than anything. My dad bought my first shotgun, a remmington 1100 12 gauge I still have today.

  47. Saw this a long time ago. It is interesting but to say it changed a river is simply wrong. More of an idea that if you kill wolves you will harm the landscape so do not hunt them. Our PETA friends at work trying to deter hunting. 6 years for aspen and cotton woods to triple in length due to stopping animals from browsing? Far fetched unless they are saplings. Notice they do not show any actual change, if it was so evident where are the pictures of how changed the landscape is now? JMO!

  49. I don't know how old you are...young enough to traverse the wall of Letchworth, I'll assume not too old. Me ,this year I start pushing my way to 60...older but not old. I do know many older gentleman and some gals that are older hunters...some with failing health...They go through what can be an extreme effort to hit the woods and I can tell you they could give a damn about deer size...They just want to say they shot a deer that year and they enjoyed eating it. If you throw the old doe thing at me, I just may puke...I should have proven that it's not always easy to get a doe to show in day light...and I hunt more than most. So some of these older people may have that one single opportunity and it could be a 4 or 6 pt...They deserve that opportunity. See you(general term) younger chest beat bucks that need bragging rights...well most of you have a good many years left to make that choice...If that is what you want, go for it...you obviously don't need a law to force you to wait. Oh I forgot in" today's world", your not suppose to wait, you should be able to have a big buck behind every other tree. That's what will make them so much more special to shoot....Like picking the biggest apple in the bin..So many big apples in that bin, all very tasty and bright...You just needed to pick and choose the very biggest... Yes my sarcasm is back

  50. Get away from people. The further you go in the better your chances. The last 3 years I have killed bucks that were aged at over 5 1/2 and the closest to the road was 1 1/2 mile from a dead end me dirt road that is over 10miles of the paved road. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
