  2. So today me and daughter shot in our first tournament. It wasn't a real NYS one but just an open shoot and we had a blast. However 20 arrows from 20,30,40 yards is a lot for me my arms are like rubber. She placed 1st in her category and I did to. Sad to say I was the only one shooting with just pins no scope . Just waiting on the endorsement deals now..

  4. Shucks, THAT's nuthin'.... Jed Clampett and Jethro used to sit on their porch and shoot flies off their front gate, 100 yards away... For a challenge, they shot 'em on the WING.......<<grin>>.......

  5. It's a long story but I intended to fish Honeoye with my boat today but when I got down, I didn't feel so hot and the wind was picking up so I bagged it....the boat has been down in that area since last fall so its not like I dragged it down today. I decided instead to go drown so night crawlers in Canadice from shore. As most know I have a long history in that area and I just find it so relaxing. A few panfish and one dandy smallmouth were my total catch. Sorry pic is sidesaddle.....

  7. I am not a real big fan of coyotes, but I hesitate to say with certainty that every dead and dined on fawn is the work of coyotes. I have come across dead fawns curled up without any trace of physical trauma. I have seen road killed fans that all of a sudden disappear into the bush perhaps to be found later by someone who assumes it is another coyote victim. We know that there are no shortages of predators out there or other carrion eaters (from the ground and the sky) that can kill of take advantage of a fawn carcass that can die of any number of causes including health deficiencies. So yes we can swear at the coyotes, but understand that there are many critters that leave dined-on fawn carcasses scattered throughout the woods.

  8. Just habit, I guess. lol..... By the time I fumble around separating the backing, I could staple 4 targets. Long before they started making these shoot and see targets, we would staple standard sheets of paper with hand drawn bulls.

  10. Well I will have a new 3-5 acre plot once the ground dries up some. Brought a truck load of corn over to the farmer around the corner that lets me hunt and asked if he could till a field up for me. He says not a problem. Figure I'll get it brushhogged early July, hammer it hard with round up 2 times through July then have him disc it up end up July with a planting of turnips, clover and winter wheat right after. I'm pretty pumped about it seeing as this will be the biggest plot I'll have and that it's going to get a real good tilling vs what I've been doing with my atv.

  20. Slowly getting the boat ready. Should be good to go next week. Still not much strength in the right arm, but I'm planning to go. No tournaments this year. Probably hit Saratoga lake first. Then the Mohawk, followed by Sacendaga, Ballston, Thompsons and Warner Lakes. Depending how it goes, would like to do a coupke WNY lakes too. Will be good PT for the shoulder!

  21. Getting older sucks, but it beats the alternative ! We must compensate as we age...I can't shoot a rifle nearly as well offhand as I used to, so I always try to get a rest of some sort.. I can still wingshoot pretty good, but I can't walk nearly as far ( or fast) as I used to...<<<SIGH>>>....

  22. After a close friends wedding at a fancy country club ( Cobblestone Creek in Victor) last night where the only beer served was Blue and Blue Light I'm really appreciating the Southern Tier DIPA. On the deck, listening to the turkey who hardly made a sound the last month. How the hell come won't these pictures come out right?!

  27. I've chased down lots of bad odor calls over the years (in another life) and it was almost always a dead critter. Mouse, rat, rabbit, squirrel, bird, human etc. Never had it be an electrical issue........... Good luck and keep us posted!

  31. Out in Angola visiting with my uncle. He has a place right on the beach. This eagle flies over and im used to seeing turkey buzzards but this bird dwarfed any of them. It circled back one more time and it appeared he or she was just growing the white feathers for head. It looked kinda patchy. That's my first New York bald eagle I have seen. I have seen some in Pennsylvania and a ton when i went to Alaska. Really awesome!

  33. Have seen a bunch in Alden area. Following cayuaga creek. On one sighting I saw a mature bird with 3 young. Even the young had a 4' span. Amazing bird to watch. This is a pic of a young one hunting in my spot... Watched it cruise the fields for about 20 min then headed towards the creek. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

  34. Games for shooting. Bottle caps, make a smiley face in the target (Bench), jumping any foam or plastic container off the burm. (Anything high on the burm if off limits!) One shot is fine but jumping the target is the goal with multiple shots in the shortest time. Shooting the pins that hold the target onto the backstop. Pick any target off the burm and take it out. Print out a dart board and play the game. (Fun 22 game.) (Smaller the target the harder it is!) How many shots can you put in the bull 10 rounds bench, 10 off hand. Smaller bull for bench about 2-3 inch standing 50 yards. Deer target, one between the eyes and then take out both eyes, you loose if you miss any of the 3 shots. Cards, take out the number on the card or pick a symbol to take out, place the card side ways and shoot it in half. Long distance put clays on the backstop and take them out off hand. All good fun and keeps it much more interesting than just shooting paper. Be safe and make sure of your backstop!

  40. Drives me nuts when I help zero in friends guns for hunting season and they still wont leave the bench rest. I try to explain how important off hand shooting is especially when the moment of truth is only a small window that could be as short as a few seconds. When I ask if they will bring the bench with them the reaction is funny. I use to shoot often till they closed the local range in town down and then ammo cost went crazy as I don't reload. Past 7 years I have been back on the bow kick and shoot often when my body allows. Now I just need to get glasses! Arg! Good news is that might help me see more deer, lol. Great excuse and I am sticking to it!
